1 Brighter Futures Grants Guidelines Round 6 The Suncorp Group Brighter Futures program is designed to unite and engage our people to make a difference to causes they are passionate about. They can do this through fundraising, payroll giving, applying for grants and volunteering. 1. About Brighter Futures Grants The Suncorp Group Brighter Futures Grants Fund was established in December 2011, awarding grants of up to $10,000 to support health and wellbeing initiatives. The Brighter Futures Grants Fund advertises its application dates on the Brighter Futures website. The total annual grant pool will be determined by the Brighter Futures Internal Advisory Panel. Grants will be awarded for one year only and are not intended as a recurring funding source. Grants will be awarded to applications that demonstrate the greatest impact within health and wellbeing for our communities as determined by the Brighter Futures Grants Fund Judging Panel. All information must be contained within the online application. Attachments will not be accepted. 2. Funding priorities Good health and wellbeing among the wider community is imperative for Australia and New Zealand s prosperity in terms of our social and economic welfare, workforce participation, productivity and overall welfare. Across all states and territories of Australia and New Zealand the health and wellbeing areas that the Brighter Futures Grants Fund can support are: mental health women s, men s and children s health ageing health drug and alcohol abuse prevention and treatment Indigenous and minority groups health Refer to Appendix 1 for detailed descriptions of these categories. The priorities for the Brighter Futures Grants Fund are to support organisations and individuals from minority or disadvantaged groups, where the need or potential outcome has a tangible health and wellbeing benefit to the community or individual. 3. The following are NOT considered funding priorities: Programs or initiatives that do not have a specific link or demonstrate an outcome for a health and wellbeing issue. 4. Aims of the Suncorp Group Brighter Futures Grants Fund: Support a broad variety of causes within the area of health and wellbeing. Award grants to charity organisations, community groups and individuals nominated by Suncorp Group employees. Make an impact in our community by supporting worthwhile causes or local community participation. 1

2 Support our people s passion for the causes closest to their hearts. Award grants to recipients nominated by an employee who has shown long term association or commitment to the recipient. Award grants to recipients who have not previously received grant funding. Fund initiatives that will have reasonably long-term impact. 5. Eligibility criteria 5.1. Employees The employee making the grant application: Must be a permanent part-time, permanent full-time, maximum-term, fixed-term or long-term casual employee of the Suncorp Group, (who is also subject to the relevant provisions in the Suncorp Group Enterprise Agreement 2015). Please note: The Suncorp Group recognises that on occasions employees may experience extreme financial hardship resulting from a natural catastrophe or other events beyond their control. The Employee Hardship Program (EHP) can provide one off individual grants to employees to help support them through these difficult events. Refer to Receipt and use of funds Eligibility requirements for the receipt and use of funds are as follows: The funds will only be deposited into an account held by the nominated charity organisation, community group, service provider, school, education institution, or club. The funds must be used for the purpose described in the application. If successful, applicants must provide evidence of use of funds e.g. receipt or photograph, within six months or an update about progress. Suncorp may determine what level of evidence is required on a case-by-case basis. Applications for individuals will only be considered for services or goods relating to the health and wellbeing of that person. The awarded grant amount will be remitted against the relevant tax invoice for the actual services or goods. If the funds requested are not for the entire amount of the program, initiative or service, the nominee must be able to demonstrate how the recipient will utilise the balance. Shortlisted applications will need to provide invoicing for the service provider during validation Not eligible for funding Applications for the following types of funding will not be considered in respect of Grants: Event sponsorship Catering costs Prizes, sponsorships or award ceremonies Fundraising activities Commercial activities Retrospective funding (i.e. for goods or services already commenced or expenditure previously committed) Cash payments to individuals (this includes depositing into individuals bank accounts) Organisations funding political, religious, military pursuits or animal welfare Grants will only be provided for goods or services relating to the health and wellbeing of an individual where a tax invoice from a supplier or service provider is submitted. 3

4 Local Grants In respect of Local Grants, all of the restrictions outlined above apply in addition to the following: Applications will not be considered for personal equipment for individuals or uniforms although applications for items such as team bibs or general team training equipment may be considered; and Applications will not be considered to cover operating costs such as staff wages, utility bills, telephone bills, public liability insurance costs, etc. 6. Review and assessment of applications 6.1. Community Grants Applications are assessed for eligibility by a Judging Panel appointed by Suncorp. The Judging Panel will generally consist of individuals from the Brighter Futures team and Charities Aid Foundation who will assess applications against the Fund s criteria. The Judging Panel will review all eligible applications and provide each with a merit ranking that takes into consideration funding priorities, guidelines and goals. Applications are weighted against the following criteria: Criteria Interpretation Weighting Scoring Guide 1. To what extent does the Suncorp Group employee have an association with the recipient? Length of association with recipient (period of time) and closeness of the association (occasional donor, friend of a friend, dedicated volunteer, close family member). Those with a stronger association score higher. 30% 0 = No association 1 = Little association beyond personal support for cause 2 = Donated or volunteered on a once-off basis or known for less than 12 months 3 = Friend of a friend or similar, association for 2 3 years 4 = Family friend or relative / clear dedication to cause through volunteering or other association, at least 3 plus years 5 = Close relative e.g. child, sibling or similar relationship or long-term association with charity (e.g. founder, charity has provided personal or family support) 2. To what level is there a relevant and compelling need for support of the recipient? Applications which demonstrate a lesser need for support score lower. For example an initiative may demonstrate a positive impact within the community however the need for support for the particular charity may be low due to existing corporate sponsorships. 20% 1 = The need is unclear 2 = The need is a nice to have 3 = The need is clear but alternate sources of support available 4 = Compelling case provided 5 = Very compelling - the charity or individual would struggle to have this need met without support of a grant 3. To what extent can the grant be attributed to a specific service or good? Those applications which very clearly outline what the money would be spent on and if it is for a particular initiative or piece of equipment score higher. Applications which are more general in their request for funds score lower. 20% 0 = No amount requested 1 = No breakdown provided/ full Grant amount requested 2 = Specific amount requested but no evidence why 3 = Amount requested based on a rough idea of specific funds required 4 = Rough breakdown of costs provided, based on realistic estimates 5 = Clear breakdown of costs and evident prices are based on quotes 4. To what extent could the grant outcome provide positive impact for the individual/ community? Those applications which demonstrate a significant positive impact for the individual or community score higher than applications where the funding outcome is not as significant. 30% 1 = A Grant will make little difference 2 = A Grant will supplement general funding requirements and benefit the recipient in the shortterm. 3 = Provide a nice memory/ relief for individual or impact 25+ people 4 = Improve quality of life for individual/ impact 100+ people 5 = Significant difference to the life of individual and/or parents/ carer. Would impact a large number of people (250+) through specific charity program or similar. 4

5 6.2. Local Grants Applications are assessed for eligibility by a Judging Panel appointed by Suncorp. The Judging Panel will generally consist of staff from the Brighter Futures team and Charities Aid Foundation who will assess applications against the Fund s criteria. 2. To what extent can the grant be attributed to a specific service or good? 3. To what extent could the grant outcome provide positive impact for the individual/ community? Length of association with recipient (period of time) and closeness of the association (friend of a friend, dedicated volunteer, player or parent). Those with a stronger association score higher. Those applications which very clearly outline what the money would be spent on and if it is for a particular initiative or piece of equipment that will be an asset of the club or community group score higher. Those applications which demonstrate a significant positive impact for the individual or community score higher than applications where the funding outcome is not as significant. 50% 0 = No association 1 = Little association beyond personal support for club or school 2 = Friend is a member, association for at least 12 months 3 = Parent with child as member or similar association for 2 3 years 4 = Parent with child as member who helps out occasionally 5 = Long-term coach/ founder/ volunteer of at least 3 4 years with clear dedication 20% 0 = No amount requested 1 = No breakdown provided/ full Grant amount requested 2 = Specific amount requested but no evidence why 3 = Amount requested based on a rough idea of specific funds required 4 = Rough breakdown of costs provided, based on realistic estimates 5 = Clear breakdown of costs and evident prices are based on quotes 30% 1 = A Grant will make little difference 2 = A Grant will supplement general funding requirements and benefit the recipient in the shortterm. 3 = Impact 25+ people 4 = Impact 100+ people 5 = Impact a large number of people (250+) The Panel will favour applications across both categories which demonstrate the following: A long term commitment or association with the recipient. A compelling need for support of the nominated recipient. Clear explanation of the potential positive impact the grant will have for the individual. Support for one or more of Suncorp Group s health and wellbeing categories as outlined in the funding priorities. The application can be attributed to a specific service, program, initiative, equipment or goods. The application meets the Brighter Futures Grants Fund goals outlined in this guideline. Please note: Once the Panel has met to review applications, their decision is final and no other discussion will be entered into. 7. How do I apply for a Brighter Futures Grant? You can apply for a Brighter Futures Grant by submitting an online application form at Brighter Futures Grant applications are generally called for during specific grant rounds.
