Doing so is integral to our ongoing efforts to provide safe, reliable, affordable and clean energy throughout Northern and Central California. Overview From extreme weather to rising sea levels, the threat that climate change poses to communities across California is becoming all too apparent. In an effort to promote local resilience to climate change, PG&E is offering the Better Together Resilient Communities grant program. Through the program, PG&E will invest $1 million over five years or $200,000 per year in shareholder-funded grants to support local initiatives to build greater climate resilience throughout Northern and Central California. The grant results will be made publicly available to help communities better understand, plan for and respond to climate change risks and encourage partnerships. PG&E will select the grants through a competitive process and the program will feature a different climate risk each year, such as sea level rise or increased wildfire frequency and intensity. A panel of community and sustainability leaders, including members of PG&E s external Sustainability Advisory Council, will play an advisory role with the program. Program Description and 2017 Focus on Wildfires Through the Better Together Resilient Communities grant program, PG&E will award two individual grants of $100,000 in PG&E is requesting grant proposals that will build healthy and resilient forests and watersheds to help communities prevent and prepare for increasing wildfire risk. Eligible projects include research, planning or demonstration projects that better prepare communities for a future with more frequent and extreme wildfires. This grant application seeks to obtain important information on your organization s proposed project and will help PG&E understand the impact you intend to achieve through the grant. PG&E encourages applicants to demonstrate how the grant funding will support locally-driven efforts to build greater climate resilience and that engage and inform stakeholders both within and beyond your local community. Grantees will be expected to work with PG&E to share results publicly with key constituents and stakeholders to promote replicability and lessons learned. PG&E also encourages applicants to include identified in-kind matching funds or services that will contribute to the overall magnitude and success of the project. 2 Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria To be eligible for these grants, applicants must: Be a governmental organization, educational institution or 501(c)3 nonprofit organization Include a local government within PG&E s Northern and Central California service area as a partner To assess grant proposals, PG&E will use the following criteria: Demonstrated partnership: the extent to which the proposal reflects a collaborative effort among multiple organizations Replicability: the extent to which the proposal identifies how others will be able to learn from and adopt the resulting strategies and solutions Assistance to disadvantaged communities: the extent to which the proposal addresses the identified needs of disadvantaged communities Measurable impact: the extent to which the proposal includes practical, measurable and innovative ways to address community needs and climate risks Grant Program Timeline The grant application process and project timeline is as follows: Step Date Request for Proposals opens March 1, 2017 Final applications due May 12, 2017 Awards announced Summer 2017 Grant awardee Final Report August 2018 Background Materials In developing your application, PG&E encourages you to consider the following background information: PG&E s Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Resilience Strategies report California Climate Change Assessments Cal-Adapt Resources National Climate Assessment: Energy Supply and Use Contact Information All questions should be directed to CommunityRelations@pge.com.
