INVESTING OUR TIME, TALENT AND FUNDING TO ADDRESS SOCIAL ISSUES IN OUR COMMUNITY 2016 INVESTMENT REPORT SOCIAL VENTURE PARTNERS TAMPA BAY

Good people giving money to good causes. It s a vital part of what we do at Social Venture Partners. But we re facing big problems in our community, and money alone is not enough to solve them. That s why SVP goes beyond philanthropy. Yes, we give money and make grants, but we also build powerful relationships among people who want to give back and the nonprofits we serve. Everyone we work with wants a better world, to tackle the challenges facing our communities. Through SVP they make a greater impact - together. Through this work we strive to make an impact at two different levels: individual and organizational. In this report, we will explore our impact to date. 2 SVP TAMPA BAY / 2016 IMPACT REPORT

CONNECT AND ENGAGE philanthropists, working together to make the greatest impact with their investments of time and money. FUND AND STRENGTHEN nonprofits, helping to build their capacity to achieve real measurable and sustainable outcomes for youth. AMPLIFY IMPACT YOUTH AT RISK READY TO SUCCEED STRONGER COMMUNITIES

INDIVIDUAL IMPACT / Our Partner Stories Connecting To Our Community Partners tell us they value the opportunity to learn and connect with the nonprofit sector and the community, as well the opportunity to apply and develop their own skills. They value the opportunity to give back to the community in a meaningful way and feel like they are making a difference. Upon retiring from a career in international consulting, I wanted to give back to the local community by utilizing my skills. SVP has offered me this interesting challenging opportunity to address local societal issues and work with a great group of like minded people. Noel Baker, SVP Tampa Bay Partner Being a partner with SVP gives me the opportunity to work with other business people; who are sharing their talents collectively, to assist nonprofits in making a bigger impact helping Youth at Risk. Kay Wilson, SVP Tampa Bay Partner Several partners have shared that they value the social aspect of SVPTB, and having the opportunity to strengthen their own network, as well as being inspired by other partners. I enjoy the social benefits of SVP Tampa Bay - from having my husband be a partner with me, our adult children attending annual meetings with us, working on projects with some of my closest friends and meeting, working and socializing with cool like-minded, talented members of our community. Joanie Halfaker, SVP Tampa Bay Partner 4 SVP TAMPA BAY / 2016 IMPACT REPORT

For us, SVP is a family affair. My wife and I joined SVP as partners two years ago. Last year, our son and his wife joined as young partners in Seattle. All of us appreciate the opportunity SVP affords us to give back to the community in our own way. I am active on SVP management and governance issues. My wife handles SVP s educational programs. My son and his wife are active in organizing and judging the Seattle Fast Pitch competition. SVP is unique in the way it draws, not just on our financial resources, but our talents and energy and skills. Perhaps best of all, SVP allows us to partner with like-minded folks, equally committed to our community. There is truly strength in numbers and every new partner increases our financial resources and the inventory of skills we can provide to the organizations we partner with. Steve Brannock, SVP Tampa Bay Partner

INDIVIDUAL IMPACT / Amplified Giving The issues we face are daunting. It has never been more important to support our community in ways that make the greatest impact. Our greatest asset is human capital; SVP partners combine and leverage their dollars, but that s just the beginning. Through regular interaction with our investees we help offer solutions and track results. SVP Tampa Bay Partners report PARTNERS GIVE MORE STRATEGICALLY SVPTB has helped partners to become more strategic and inspired in their giving as well as empowered them to contribute in more rewarding and effective ways. 100% IMPACT FOR PARTNERS 80% PROPORTION OF RESPONDENTS WHAT MAKES SVP UNIQUE IS THE DONATION OF HUMAN CAPITAL SVP PARTNERS REPORTED THAT THEY LIKE DIRECTLY BEING A PART OF THE SOLUTION INTERNATIONALLY SVPI PARTNERS ARE MORE INVOLVED IN THEIR COMMUNITY 80% report SVPI has enabled them to learn more about the social sector and ways to achieve greater social impact 72% report SVPI has enabled them to become more connected to the community SVPI has enabled partners to use their skills and experieinces in building capacity. As well, 76% reported that through their involvement with SVPTB, they have had the opportunity to develop new skills 6 SVP TAMPA BAY / 2016 IMPACT REPORT

SVPTB Youth at risk realize their potential The beauty of SVP is active philanthropy - SVP partners engage with local social profit organizations by rolling up their sleeves and assisting organizations in their growth to accelerate their impact. At the same time, our partners also engage in social events to build camaraderie and team work. The result - having fun and improving the social welfare of our community. Betty Otter-Nickerson, SVP Tampa Bay Partner SVP BY THE NUMBERS A growing and dynamic network, SVP offers a wide variety of ways to learn and engage with our community. 8 ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT / Strong Nonprofits, Better Results You ve heard about the great work SVP investees are doing. Our focus at SVPTB is to help serve more at-risk youth, provide more effective programs, and make an even greater impact by remembering one rule... Strong Nonprofits Deliver Better Results! It s that simple. Things like strong financial planning, capacity building and strategic thinking can mean the difference between reaching 100,000 and 1 million youth in need. That s why SVP works with nonprofits for several years, strengthening all the behind-the-scenes systems that will help take their work to the next level. Since inception, SVP Tampa Bay has provided $64,000 to local nonprofits. In 2016, SVP Tampa Bay provided the following to local nonprofits $37,000 $200,625 In unrestricted investments Representing partner volunteer time following the SVPI standards $237,625 IN TOTAL SUPPORT BASED ON $125 PER HOUR (1605 HOURS) 8 SVP TAMPA BAY / 2016 IMPACT REPORT

SVP is about leverage and the power of a network. Partners draw on their career and life experience and work together to help build the capacity of social profit organizations in our community. This dedication, unity of purpose and spirit and financial support combine to yield a real return on investment in social outcomes and deep personal satisfaction for partners as well. Joe Clark, SVP Tampa Bay Partner

ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT / Strong Nonprofits, Better Results Community Tampa Bay (CTB) Executive Director: Jenn Yeagley Lead Partners: Cindy Kane & Kathy Freeman 2016 SVP Grant $20,000 for a grand total of $45,000 Vision & Mission Community Tampa Bay s vision is a community free from all forms of discrimination. They work toward an ambitious vision by cultivating inclusive leaders to change communities through dialogue and cross-cultural interactions. That means they give people the tools to have hard conversations with people who don t look like them. And they empower them to build relationships based on understanding and mutual respect. For Community Tampa Bay culture means the intersecting aspects that make up a person s social identity: race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, faith, age, ability and class. All their training is provided by diverse facilitators who represent these intersections: they don t talk at you; they involve you in the process of learning and change. Investee Impact The impact of SVP s financial support cannot be overstated. SVP invested in us at a time when we were not as strong organizationally as we are today, and SVP contributed to our increased strength. We had gone through a difficult Executive Director transition and experienced many months without fundraising; as a result, we needed to downsize our staff, facilities, and overall capacity to recover. Jenn Yeagley, Executive Director Community Tampa Bay 10 SVP TAMPA BAY / 2016 IMPACT REPORT

Financial Growth During the first year of SVP funding, CTB ended their fiscal year at a $104K P&L surplus. The 2nd year of SVP funding, CTB is again back on track to end the year at a surplus (estimated to be at about $50K) and with 5 months of operating cash in the bank. This turnaround would likely not have been possible without SVP s investment. Program Growth Through the financial investment by SVP, a outreach staff person was hired. By adding an outreach position, CTB has been able to successfully grow their signature program, ANYTOWN, by 50% with respect to the number of youth served and nearly double the volunteer pipeline. Leadership Development Board and Staff members of Community Tampa Bay developed mentoring relationships and worked individually with SVP partners on professional development. Strategic Planning With the assistance of SVP partners, a Strategic Planning session was facilitated with the Board of Directors, Executive Director and Staff of Community Tampa Bay. 12 ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT / Strong Nonprofits, Better Results Ready for Life (RFL) Executive Director: Kathy Mize Plummer Lead Partners: Tracey Serebin & Angela Bryant 2016 SVP Grant $15,000 + helped secure $100,000 additional funding sources RFL a nonprofit agency that has taken the lead in providing resources, connections and hope for youth that are aging out of the foster care system in Pinellas County. The mission of RFL is to engage foster care youth, private citizens and public resources to assist Pinellas County foster youth in a successful transition to adulthood. Through RFL s efforts and the support of SVP Tampa Bay and our community, youth are assisted in obtaining housing as opposed to being homeless, staying in school and seeking a diploma instead of dropping out, obtaining employment instead of being unemployed. The programs of Ready for Life build self-esteem and character so the youth can move forward with their lives. SVP Tampa Bay partners are involved with many successful initiatives with Ready for Life. RFL is grateful for the financial investment made by SVP in our organization. These funds allow RFL the opportunity to strengthen our infrastructure by supporting areas of need not typically funded. Staff are a key piece to the success of our organization and without unrestricted dollars it is difficult to fund those positions. Kathy Mize Plummer, Executive Director Ready for Life The SVP Partners have made a significant impact on RFL and those we serve. Through the support of SVP each staff person has a professional mentor, systems and structure have been enhanced and overall the organization was led through a strategic planning process that provided focus and clarity of purpose. Scott Clendening, Board Chair, Ready for Life 12 SVP TAMPA BAY / 2016 IMPACT REPORT

Housing for Homeless Initiative Financial Growth Through connections facilitated by SVP, a grant was created by the Pinellas Housing Finance Authority (PHFA) to assist with the housing of youth who have aged out of foster care, and may otherwise be homeless. RFL was awarded a $100,000 grant from PHFA to provide rent subsidies and deposits to youth to provide stable housing and to fund 3 additional (1 full time and 2 part time) employees to assist this population. Financial Management Through SVP, a part-time CFO was engaged to support RFL to manage and put up-to-date budgets and financial systems in place. Intake and Database Management RFL intake forms for youth were reworked and updated to be more comprehensive and better utilized for goal setting. Currently SVP is working with RFL to create a database and implement a program to quantify the results of RFL s work with this population of youth. Leadership Development Members of the management team at Ready for Life worked one-on-one with SVP partners on professional development. Strides were made in regards to strengthening the operations of the organization. Boundaries were put in place, roles and responsibilities were further defined, and the organization moved from operating as a Crisis Center to a facilitator of services. Strategic Planning With the assistance of SVP partners, three strategic planning sessions were facilitated with the Board of Directors and Executive Director of Ready for Life to analyze the efforts that had been effective and establish what the goals of the organization should be moving forward. They will end the year with a better outline, strategic plan, and operational goals for their organization. Quotes from the Youth served by Ready for Life In the past seven years you guys have had my back like the mother I never had. Thank you so much for always being there for me and Aaryn. RFL has been my voice of reason when I need to plan my life or just cry. To be honest you taught me it was OK to cry. I truly love RFL because they are my family. Ready for Life makes me feel important. I feel so accomplished being involved with this organization and I feel like I am a huge asset to them as well. It feels good to be wanted especially when it s a feeling that I never had before. SVP TAMPA BAY / 2016 IMPACT REPORT 13

ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT / Strong Nonprofits, Better Results OTHER INVESTMENTS Often times SVP Tampa Bay learns of other nonprofits that we would like to help in a specific yet meaningful way. In these cases, we offer expertise and/or smaller amounts of funding to help nonprofits work through a challenge. In some instances, smaller grants are often given as seed money. Technical assistance given to: Local nonprofit A nonprofit that serves women in Tampa and provides tools they need to become self sufficient Partner assistance provided by: Nancy Phaneuf, Debra Koehler Work Performed: Their goal was to net enough funds to acquire another facility more central to their client base and enhance their involvement. Outcome: SVP Partners local real estate knowledge helped assess their current situation so that they could evaluate locations and facility needs for the future. Adoption Related Services of Pinellas (ARSP) Executive Director: Linda Eaton, LMHC Adoption Related Services of Pinellas (ARSP) is the leading agency in the Suncoast Region that has a primary focus of supporting foster and adoptive families through counseling and related services. Our mission is to increase successful adoptions and enhance attachment in the parent-child relationship. SVP Partner: Nikki Daniels Work Done: SVP worked with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to complete an OCAT (Organizational Capacity Assessment Tool). After collecting and analyzing the data, SVP presented the information in a board meeting and made suggestions for improving in areas that did not rank highly. Outcomes: ARSP has made changes in every area that did not rank well, including increasing the number of board members, developing a strategic plan, increasing their social media presence and working towards diversifying funding. Positive Spin Executive Director: Jada McMillion SVP Partners: Betty Otter-Nickerson and Robert Bernstein Mission is to engage, elevate and strengthen families within their neighborhood by providing support and growth opportunities that lead to sustained positive outcomes. Their program activities offer a path to increased family stability and self sufficiency. Work Done: An OCAT (Organizational Capacity Assessment Tool) Assessment was given Outcomes: The OCAT offered them insight into their organizational and leadership challenges so they could develop a plan to address their needs. 14 SVP TAMPA BAY / 2016 IMPACT REPORT
