2 Page 2 RIDE RESEDA The last Ride Reseda bike ride of 2011 explored Lake Balboa Park via the Orange Line. Ac vi- es included riding around the lake, scaring a few ducks, and a quick stop at the Farmers Market on Victory where Juan Guzman made the acquaintance of a certain fish taco. Perhaps most significantly, and to illustrate one of the key reasons for the ride, Reseda Riders discovered a home-made Holiday Water Show on the front lawn of Reseda Resident Rex Danyluk at 6511 Yarmouth near Ki ridge. We highly recommend everyone swing by between 6pm and 9pm during the holidays to view this unique display. Rides will begin again following the New Year. While we will con nue to explore Reseda via different streets, 2012 will see more des na on-oriented trips, with planned stops. Future rides may include trips to the following: CSUN, Canoga/Owensmouth Historical Sepulveda Dam Recrea on Area, Pierce College, and Shadow Ranch Park. And, yes, eventually to the top of Mt. Reseda, the Southernmost point of Reseda, South of Ventura Blvd. Rides begin at 9:00 am behind the Reseda NC Office Sherman Way #102. 3 Page 3 SHOPRESEDA & SPEND $25 on 25th Both the SHOPRESEDA and Spend $25 on the 25 th in Reseda Programs con nue to grow as more businesses par cipate. Now over 90 businesses are offering a discount or special price on the 25 th of each month. The SHOPRESEDA Card program is only 1 month old and about 500 SHOPRESEDA Cards have been issued and more than 30 Reseda establishments are offering their special prices or discounts every day of the month. Both programs are designed to encourage YOU the consumer to spend some of your hard earned dollars in the Reseda Community rather than take the extra me and fuel to travel to a neighboring community. Spending your money locally meets that about $.45 of every $1.00 returns to the community in tax dollars, wages, resupply of merchandise and supplies etc. Most of all it supports the local businesses that have not fared well in our down economy. They help to provide more jobs, and in addi on if they resupply in part from other businesses in our community, that mul plier effect helps Reseda to improve. Be sure to say hello and welcome the following businesses to our community. Boost Mobile, 8253 Tampa Ave., Dollarama, 7126 Reseda Blvd. CHAIR S REPORT (Continued from page 1) Proposed and supported the plan for a Reseda Centennial Park and Community Garden at Sa coy and Strathern Street Supported and a ended Children s Day at Woodley Park Funded RNC outreach banners at the St. Catherine s Fall Fes val Hosted a Business Mixer/Social Media Workshop free to local businesses to help them expand their e-outreach and drive local customers to their businesses Worked with American Express and ShopLA hos ng a Small Business Saturday press conference in Reseda tou ng our ShopReseda ini a ve Held an Art in Numbers event with Con nental Art Supply and the 11:11 Crea ve Collec ve to promote local business, local ar sts and the spend $25 on the 25th program in Reseda Established the ShopReseda Card, printed and distributed to local businesses to encourage Stakeholders to buy in Reseda Par cipated in the San Fernando Valley Veterans Parade by a ending and assis ng with street closure costs Discussed and made recommenda on regarding the Wes ield Village project at the Warner Center Provided funding for the LA Neighborhood Council Congress and had more than half our Board a end and par cipate Discussed the West Valley LAPD camera program delays Handed out thousands of balloons to children at the myriad of community events the RNC a ended A ended the Reseda Police Academy Boosters Holiday Bou que and par cipated with an outreach booth Allocated funding for emergency radios to be used in Reseda when the need arises Some of the other ongoing efforts that the Board commits itself to and follows through on a reoccurring basis are: Assembling and delivering 8000 copies of a monthly newsle er ing over 2000 Stakeholders a weekly community news A ending and conduc ng outreach at local events with events staffed by Board Members Conduc ng Bi-monthly Board Mee ngs where we give the Reseda Stakeholder a place to bring their concerns and pursue solu ons Upda ng and maintain our current website and other social media I truly believe that all of this is posi ve and made possible by all of you as elected volunteers and Stakeholder par cipants. The money the City provides helps, but is not what makes the neighborhood council successful or worthwhile, the volunteers do. As long as there are persons such as yourselves, taking ownership of your community, good things will happen. The Reseda Neighborhood Council is simply a powerful organizing tool that helped us meet each other and allows us to work together. With this in mind, I would once again ask for you to join me in laying the founda on for a produc ve I would recommend to the Board that we focus a large part of our energies next year on the 100 year anniversary of Reseda. This is a once in a century event, and I urge all poten al ideas be centered around this celebra on. In 2012, let s con nue to give the City of Los Angeles and our Councilman, infallible advice and recommenda ons on what the Stakeholders of Reseda want. With all this in mind, I look forward to January, when we can all jump on the bandwagon of ge ng things done in Reseda, let s make next year the most produc ve of our Board yet.

5 Page 5 REDISTRICTING Every ten years when the United States census is completed and becomes available to the City of Los Angeles, the L.A. City Charter requires that the L.A. Our Council District, CD 3, has grown in popula on since the 2000 Census and will require the commission to make adjustments to the currently exis ng boundaries. To find out more about the L.A. City Council District, preferably in Council District 3 in which it currently resides. Reasons for this recommenda on included a desire to maintain currently formed Neighborhood Council boundaries, considera on of Community Redevelopment Agency ongoing projects in Reseda, currently thriving business redevelopment efforts, longstanding strong working rela onships with local officials, and vital projects centered around the Los Angeles River Revitaliza- on Master Plan.
