Oct 20th. DOWNLOAD INFO PACKET IN YOUR SCIENCE GOOGLE CLASSROOM! Categories: Biological Science Earth Science Environmental Science Physical Science Engineering Robotics Awards will be given in each category by grade level.

Oct 20th Decide on project idea, hand in registration form to main office/pta mailbox and start working Fri. Oct 20th FINAL DUE DATE Registration form to main office/pta mailbox Nov 8th Nov 11th Finalize projects and complete displays Tues. Nov 14th Arrange to have parent drive you/ or take bus and project to school and bring to conference room for day storage. 2:00 Volunteers will move projects to the cafeteria for set up by category. 6:30 Doors open for additional project drop off if morning is not possible. 3 Baker PTA and Baker STEM Committee Science Fair Guidelines Information and Supplies 1. The info packet is available in all science google classroom accounts, the PTA webpage and in hard copy in the office and science classrooms. 2. Two informational and help days will be during lunches in the media center. You can obtain more info, research guidance and free display boards at these times. Dates will be announced on morning announcements. 3. Projects are to be dropped off on Tues, Nov 14th at drop off in the morning and brought to the conference room in the 6th grade hall. Please arrange to have a parent drive you or bring your project on the bus. 4. The science fair will be from 7-8:30 in the cafeteria. Projects need to set up by 7:00, arrive no earlier than 6:30. General Rules 1. Participation in the science fair is strictly voluntary. 2. Signups are due by Fri. Oct 20th to the main office/pta mailbox 3. You may work alone or up to a total of 3 partners (exceptions made for clubs) 4. Only one project per student. 5. Work must have been completed in this school year. 6. Your science fair project should fit into one of the following disciplines: Biological Science Environmental Science Physical Science Earth Science Engineering Robotics 7. Your project does NOT have to reflect the material you are currently studying in your science class, it SHOULD be something you are interested in. 8. Safety is very important. Experiments should be approved and supervised by a responsible adult. 9. Please do not include animals, open flames, explosives, corrosives, toxic chemicals, sharp objects. 10. Ipads and laptops may be incorporated into the displays at the risk of the presenters. 11. All work must be done by the student(s). Appropriate assistance may be provided by your parents or others.

4 Judging Baker PTA and Baker STEM Committee 1. All projects will be judged. Science Fair Guidelines 2.Judges will be looking at the following characteristics: Originality Quality of Display Good Scientific Procedure- Does the experiment provide the quantitative information needed to answer the student s question? Has the student carefully recorded and analyzed the data? Have the variables been identified and controlled? Are the conclusions valid? 3. All students participating will get a participation award. 4. Prizes will be awarded in grades 6-8 by category. Display Board 1. Purchase a tri fold board to display your project or get a free one from the PTA. The measurements of your board may NOT exceed 30 deep, 48 wide and 36 high. 2. Please leave a six inch by six inch blank space in the upper left - hand corner of your display board for index-card, numbering purposes. 3. Put your name on the back of the board only. 4. The following should be included on your display board: Problem - This is the question which your experiment was designed to answer. Hypothesis - This is your predicted answer to the problem. Materials - List materials you used...photographs can be used. Procedures -These are the measurements, trials, and actions you took during the experiment. Results -Brief discussion of your observations and the results of your experiment. Conclusion A summary of your experiment and validity of your hypothesis.
