Canadian innovators and entrepreneurs will no longer need to spend time figuring out which department to go to or which program best meets their needs. Innovation Canada will host the federal government s simplified suite of innovation programs that will better enable and support Canadian innovators. 9 Innovation Superclusters Initiative By pulling in large firms, innovative small and medium-sized enterprises and industry-relevant research institutions, business leaders will come together with partners and in new ways to build business-led innovation superclusters at scale. 10 Strategic Innovation Fund $1.26b over 5 years The Strategic Innovation Fund consolidates and simplifies existing business innovation programming into a single fund, while expanding support to new and emerging sectors, such as digital, life sciences and clean technologies. SIF provides a single, streamlined and resultsfocused fund that businesses will access through an efficient and responsive application process. The Strategic Innovation Fund will strengthen and expand the role of Canadian firms in regional and global supply chains and support growth through innovation to create new, good, well-paying jobs. 10
11 Innovative Solutions Canada A made-in-canada version of the US SBIR program will draw on international best practices to position the Government as a first customer for innovative small businesses and as a partner in their growth. US SBIR Process Phase 1 Assess novel innovations for technical merit, feasibility, and commercial potential of the proposed R&D $150K total cost for 6 months Phase 2 Continued development of Phase 1 projects through prototype development and testing, and pre-commercial deployment $1M total cost for 2 years Phase 3 Procurement by government departments and agencies where appropriate 11
12 Horizontal Review of Business Innovation and Clean Technology Programs Innovation Canada in collaboration with the Treasury Board Secretariat, will initiate the modernization of the government s business innovation programs through a whole-of-government review. PHASE 1 Program Inventory Catalogue current government-wide business innovation initiatives June 5, 2017 PHASE 2 Analysis & Coordination Analysis of program data with aim of simplifying and coordinating existing programs Summer/Fall

14 Single Window Platform: Accelerated Growth Service The Accelerated Growth Service coordinates government support for high growth companies in areas such as financing, advisory support, export and innovation services. 40% Of new jobs are created by highgrowth companies in Canada every year 142 firms accelerated since 2016 Goal of 1k firms accelerated 14
15 Clean Growth Hub Situated within Innovation Canada, the Clean Growth Hub will streamline client services, improve federal program coordination and enable tracking and reporting on clean technology results across government. The hub will connect clean technology stakeholders to international markets 5 depts in the Hub (ISED, NRCan, GAC, DFO, AAFC) + 6 $2.3 billion part-time depts (ECCC, TC, NRC, BDC, EDC, PSPC) Committed in Budget
