4 CompeteFor In the run up to the London Olympics, the Olympic Delivery Agency developed the CompeteFor website to promote business opportunities around the Games. More than 170,000 businesses registered and 9,400 contracts were awarded with a combined value of 2 billion. Over 70 per cent of the contracts awarded were to SMEs.

5 Background How it started SSE followed the CompeteFor model with the Open4Business portal for the Scottish Highlands and Islands. The aim was to provide visibility of opportunities to potential suppliers in the Highlands and Islands, where Scottish Hydro has a long-standing relationship with the community.

6 The Open4Business Initiative is an innovative web advertising platform which promotes local procurement and opens up our supply chain. It encourages and supports economic development in the areas where we operate and helps us to be seen as the most Open4Business company in the industry
