17 New Mexico s government-financed jobs (direct and indirect) account for 31.9% of nonfarm payroll jobs. The national average is 19.2% Real private-sector jobs in New Mexico is 68.1% of the state s labor market. The smallest private sector percentage in the U.S. The national average is 80.8% In order to grow our New Mexico economy to the national average (without losing federal jobs), we need a total of 1,323,197 jobs or an additional 514,697 private jobs. We clearly need more private sector businesses that will employ more people and a larger population from which to draw the labor resource. NEW Private sector businesses need to be indigenous, organic and tied to the community. Wealth created from these jobs will create the investment capital that will fund the creation of entrepreneur driven businesses. The Innovation Corridor can and will do this
