6 Looking for Applicants for a Home March 15, 2018 Habitat for Humanity El Paso will begin immediately accepting applications for a home in the Horizon area of El Paso County. The three-bedroom, two-bath home at 508 Serena Court is already constructed and ready for occupancy. Habitat for Humanity El Paso is committed to the larger mission of Habitat International, which is to eliminate substandard housing for low-income families. All of our homeowners meet the three main criteria set forth by Habitat for Humanity International: Ability to Pay: Habitat homes are Habitat homes are not free, but are sold to our partner families at cost (land + construction) with a 30-year no-interest loan. We calculate a family s ability to afford the mortgage, taxes and insurance by using a variety of documents to determine income, credit worthiness and legal residency. The ability to pay documents and income guidelines will be listed in detail at the end of this document. Housing Need: Applicants who meet the Ability to Pay requirements will often go on to the home interview phase where a team of Habitat Family Selection volunteers meets with them in their home to determine housing need. This is defined in a variety of ways to include overcrowding, a dwelling poorly maintained by a landlord or property manager, an unaffordably high income-to-rent ratio and other factors that contribute to housing need. Applicants may not currently own a home, but they may own property. Willingness to Partner: Habitat partner families work with us to build their own homes and the homes of other applicants. In addition to helping at the construction site, we offer volunteer opportunities in our ReStore off of Lee Trevino and our warehouse location in downtown El Paso, which functions as a secondary retail location to our ReStore. Because the home we are selecting for is already constructed, we will require the family selected for this home to complete 100 sweat equity hours before moving in and another 100 sweat equity hours in the first year of occupancy. This is a reduction of 50% from our normal 400 hours of sweat equity. Applications can be mailed or they may be picked up in person in Suite 329 of the El Convento building of Loretto Academy at 1400 Hardaway in central El Paso. Please call ahead to make sure someone will be there if you want to come in person.

7 The Income Guidelines are (unfortunately) inflexible for this home since it is a property provided to Habitat for Humanity El Paso by the Housing and Urban Development s Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Families may not exceed the maximum income indicated below. Minimum income levels will be determined by the family selection team s calculations when we look at an individual family s ability to take on the mortgage, taxes and insurance associated with this specific home. Three months worth of paycheck stubs for all working household members. b. Proof of other income such as a child support statement from the attorney general s office and award letters indicating income from the following sources: social security, disability, TANF / SNAP, pensions from retirement accounts or the military or unemployment benefits. Self-employed applicants should provide profit and loss statements for their business. c. Six consecutive months of bank statements for all household members. d. Proof of assets such as CDs, Mutual Funds, 401(k), etc e. IRS form 1040 s and W-2 s for all household members who filed taxes in the last two years. f. Social Security cards and birth certificates for all household members and valid Texas identification cards or driver s licenses. g. A Divorce Decree if divorced. h. Applicants will complete an application that includes a signature allowing us to run a credit report on all applicants and co-applicants.

Here are some of the popular digital communication platforms that are being used by Rotary members around the world to increase visibility and engagement. Facebook See what s happening around the world on Rotary s official Facebook page, facebook.com/rotary. You ll find links to Rotary news stories, events, and videos. Your club can use Facebook to find potential members, invite community members to fundraisers, and show the community your projects. You can also link to donation pages, connect with other organizations, and highlight the work of your club and Rotary around the world. With Facebook, if you see something you like, you can add your comment and share it with your contacts in a matter of seconds. LinkedIn Network with other Rotarians and friends of Rotary on LinkedIn, the world s largest professional network. Rotarians can join groups in their region or around the world to share ideas and get their Rotary questions answered. Join Rotary International s official LinkedIn group to communicate with over 64,000 members. Twitter Keep in touch with other Rotarians and friends of Rotary at twitter.com/ rotary. Take part in Rotary events like the international convention while engaging in dialogue with other attendees. You can also use Twitter to maintain contact with your local media and link to articles about your projects in your community. YouTube Rotary has a number of videos on its own YouTube channel, com/rotaryinternational. Share them or link to them on your club s website or your personal website, on social media outlets, and in newsletters. If a member of your club has the ability to make videos or if you can hire a video professional, you may want to post videos about your own club so that potential members and donors can learn about what you do. HOW DOES YOUR CLUB APPEAR TO A NONMEMBER? Club image Is it easy for a visitor to find basic information about your club, including your meetings and projects? Ask a friend or family member to try to locate the following information: What does your club do? How often does it meet? Where will the next meeting be, and how long will it last? Should a visitor contact someone in the club before visiting? Is there a cost to the visitor for attending? What will the meeting be like? What does your club do besides holding meetings? If it is not easy to find this information on your Facebook page, on your website, or through Rotary s Club Finder, you may be missing the chance to connect with prospective members.
