Hairdressing Industry Hairdressing is a rewarding industry to work in, continually changing in response to fashion trends and guest demands by introducing new services and treatments. James Dun s House Hair Academy Since it s launch in 2005, our Hair Academy has produced over 100 fantastic hairdressers. Our in-house training team comprises of 8 of our most experienced stylists, who are also qualified assessors. Our 5000sq foot salon, has 2 floors dedicated to hair, with the lower floor housing our academy on a Monday & Tuesday. Situated in the centre of Aberdeen, James Dun s House is easily accessible by bus, rail and road. All our trainees attend the Academy one day per week 9am -5.30pm

2 What are SVQs? Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQ) tell you exactly what you have to do in a job to do it well. They are based on national standards which are drawn up by people from industry, commerce and education. This means that if you have an SVQ, then you have a way of proving that you can do your job well, to national standards agreed by the hairdressing industry. SVQ s send powerful messages to employers: You can do your job confidently & well You are motivated, confident & ambitious You are ready to take responsibility You are committed to your work What is a Modern Apprenticeship? Modern apprenticeships offer those aged 16-18, paid employment combined with the opportunity to train for jobs at craft, technician and management level They are an exciting way of gaining skills and qualifications that will help to start a career witout having to study full-time. The James Dun s House modern apprenticeship will give you all the skills you need to become a successful hairdresser. We receive funsding from the Scottish Government via Skills Development Scotland in order to provide our Modern Apprenticeship programme.
