2 CV and its PURPOSE CVs for different purposes have different priorities ACADEMIC CV Demonstrate your value in accordance with parameters of academic relevance: publications, research, funding In grant proposals, CV required for the evaluation of the Principal Investigator Different formats and limitations (e.g. Academy of Finland TENK; ERC 2+2 pages; Tekes free) Tailor your CV, within the format of the application or specific guidelines 2

3 General CV guidelines Even if no page limit: 4-5 pages max. recommended Keep jargon to a minimum and write with clarity Describe your contribution to high impact publications or collaborative activities (Don't be modest) Use reverse chronological lists (newer to older) Avoid making your CV complicated: Easy-to-read fonts and type sizes Use categories, only those relevant to you Only use headings or bullet points (no prose or narrative CV) Make sure other people read your CV

14 Noteworthy on CVs CV becomes a public document when appended to an application: the information must be verifiable Organisations and degrees must be referred to by using their official names or titles Work positions must be referred to by using the job titles as defined by the employer or the funding organisation The translations of names and titles should be either officially approved, used by the organisations themselves, or otherwise justifiable ( ) 14
