2 Dear Colleague: Thank you for your interest in applying for a grant under the Mardy Fish Children s Foundation. This program is authorized by the Indian River County School Board, as amended, and is intended to help Elementary Schools & Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to initiate, expand, or enhance their physical education, nutrition, or enrichment programs. These programs should be designed with a priority on safety and wellness to help students learn new and exciting activities that encourage lifelong and healthy habits. Our Foundation seeks to align After School Programs with current knowledge, research, and best practices in the fields of fitness, nutrition, and wellness. Likewise, applicants are required to design projects that address their specific needs and align with existing related initiatives in areas of expertise. We encourage you to leverage funds for (but not limited to): utilizing professional staff; incorporating physical education activities; providing nutrition education curricula or projects; and providing cognitive, social, and cooperative skill-building activities. The Mardy Fish Children s Foundation recognizes the vital role a healthy lifestyle plays in the lives of Indian River County s children. As a result, we are pleased to present this opportunity for applicants to strengthen and enhance programs that support a broader, strategic vision for encouraging healthy physical education and nutrition habits. 3 Mardy Fish Children s Foundation GRANT FAST FACTS: Purpose: The purpose of The Mardy Fish Children s Foundation Kids in Motion Grant is to assist Elementary Schools & Community Based Organizations in initiating, expanding, or enhancing their health, fitness, nutrition, or enrichment programs. Eligible Applicants: Elementary Schools and Community Based Organizations. Absolute Priority: The expressed priority is on safety and wellness to help students learn new and exciting activities that encourage lifelong and healthy habits. Additionally, this program requires that an applicant propose a program that will address healthy habits, physical fitness, and nutrition that promote physical education standards; and develop, expand, or improve its physical education program for students in kindergarten through grade 6 by undertaking instruction in healthy eating habits, good nutrition and at least one of the authorized physical fitness activities. REQUIREMENT: School and/or Organization Program receiving grants will commit to the following requirements: (1) Participating in or volunteering for at least one (1) community service event during the year grant was received. The community service event must be related to and/or aligned with Fitness, Wellness, Health, and Nutrition in some capacity. The program team will promote their school/organization program and note that their participation was sponsored in part by the Mardy Fish Children s Foundation. Mardy s Six Healthy Habits throughout the program. (2) Posting two photos to MFCF social media highlighting awarded program. (3) Team organizers will write a one-page summary of the experience and what the children learned. (4) Provide information about the program including attendance records, breakdown of students and identify their ethnic background, plus any other support information and feedback from the students and their families. However, we are inviting applications now to allow enough time to complete the grant process before the end of the current fiscal year. Contingent upon the availability of funds and the quality of applications, we may make additional awards later in FY and in subsequent years from the list of unfunded applicants.
