4 A new talent pool Key numbers: There are immigrants and Norwegian-born persons with immigrant parents living in Norway. Together these two groups represent 11.4 per cent of Norway's population Oslo has the largest proportion with 27 per cent, or people. Almost half of all the immigrants come from Asia, Africa or Latin-America. 57 per cent of all Norwegian-born persons with immigrant parents have parents with an Asian background. 17 per cent are 20 years or older. 7 Future Prospects Ageing population and shortage of skilled labor. In 2020 there will be many 80-year-olds. After the annual number of births exceeded 60,000 around 1880, it has fluctuated around that level, with a clear exception for the interwar period.

9 Alarga offers a 2-year scholarship for Master students Grant recipients are engaged in partner companies for a two-year period (the length of a Master s program). The Alarga grant is for NOK over the two-year Master s period. The grant is awarded for one year at a time at NOK for each year. Recipients enter a program offering summer job(s) with the partner company and a mentor in the company who will follow the recipient s progress closely. As part of the grant program, most candidates complete their thesis in collaboration with the partner company. Alarga also organises social and study events for recipients and partner companies.

10 Cooperation with universities and colleges: The University of Oslo The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) The Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration (NHH) The Norwegian School of Management (BI) Students from other educational institutions are also encouraged to apply.

11 Who is eligible? Target group Norwegian students with a family background from Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa and Central America. Prerequisites for eligibility for an Alarga grant: You are prepared to start your Master s studies in the autumn of You can document outstanding academic performance. You have an active interest in society and social affairs. You are fluent in written and spoken Norwegian and English, in addition to at least one other language.

12 Selection process Participating educational institutions and the board of Alarga are responsible for the first culling of incoming applications. ISCO Group supports ALARGA during interviews. ALARGA s Advisory Board, consisting of partner company representatives, is responsible for final selection of recipients. Awarding of grants in the first year does not guarantee participation in the program for the second year. Progress of studies, motivation and participation will determine whether recipients will continue in the program for the full two-year period.

It isn't about taking, it is about giving It is about giving your time, attention and energy to someone else and quickly determining how you can help them in any way. To be a successful networker you have to get comfortable introducing yourself to strangers - all the time - everywhere you go.

Be Specific When speaking to other people about your firm, speak in specifics. Help them focus on the faces of people and companies that they know Choose Effective Networking Events Make sure the events that you attend specifically for the purpose of networking are set up to allow effective networking. Choose Contacts Effectively Learn what fields of business could best help you with referrals and build strong relationships in those industries.
