Tips for Success Read the Overview Carefully! Guidelines in Selection Criteria and the information listed here are vital in preparing a successful grant. -Projects should directly involve the students as fully as possible. For example, a film developed for the classroom should be written and produced by students. -Grants may be used to compensate experts or resource speakers who work directly with students. Grant funds may not be used to compensate teachers, staff, substitutes or TISD employees. -Equipment/Technology alone Will Not be approved. It must be only one component of a wellplanned project integrated with other curriculum, materials and activities. -Transportation and consumables (including but not limited to food, t-shirts, batteries, etc.) are not funded. -Proposals that incorporate matching funds or community resources are considered favorably. For example: students or PTA s might raise matching funds; community organizations could donate/contribute needed services; etc. Outside contributions indicate a commitment to the project. -Avoid using acronyms and educational jargon without explanation. - The signature of the Director of Technology is required when funds will be used to purchase technology and/or media equipment. Applications requiring technology signatures must be submitted to that department no later than 4:30 P.M. the first Monday in December. Early submission of a rough draft to the Director of Technology (John Orbaugh) is encouraged so he can make alternate equipment suggestions when applicable. - The signature of the Director of Facilities Services is required if a request seeks to modify a Tyler ISD facility or structure, i.e. construction of a room, installation of hardware or major appliance, impact ongoing maintenance from the district or impact utilities. Applications requiring facilities signatures must be submitted to that department no later than 4:30 P.M. the first Monday in December.
