Bottom Right: Soura Bhattacharya, Glocal Healthcare s Chief of Medical Technology on behalf of AB InBev orients participants about the impact of road- safety challenges on child health in India. The event was launched with inspiring keynotes from experts and thought- leaders in the healthcare field, who identified and presented challenges to a global community of innovators. The Jugaad-a-thon (derived from the Hindi word for workaround, jugaad) is a new way of elevating the experience and know-how of local experts and using strategies from not just engineering, but also public health and business, to develop new tools to improve health. - Elizabeth Bailey, Director of the Consortium for Affordable Medical Technologies (CAMTech) at Massachusetts General Hospital. As a healthcare provider to those most at risk for poor health and early death in India, hackathons help us become a part of a unique community of innovators who share our vision of ensuring the best health care is available to all,... We see this effort (CAMTech India Jugaad-a-thon) as central to improving the lives of the millions we serve. - Soura Bhattacharyya, Glocal Healthcare s Chief of Medical Technology 9 P age

10 In addition to the 100+ clinical challenges identified at the preceding CAMTech clinical summit, participants pitched a total of 78 self- identified pain points at the Jugaad- a- thon. Over 240 participants and 70 mentors participated in the CAMTech India Jugaad- a- thon (representing over 100 different organizations) with diverse backgrounds in engineering, business, design and medicine chose the Global Health Technology Track clinical challenges identified in the preceding CAMTech India Clinical Summit and 70+ pitches self- identified as pain points by participants sparked a significant motivation for innovation. Cross- disciplinary teams formed and worked alongside mentors to hack technical solutions, develop rapid prototypes, and map early business models for widespread and sustainable public health impact. In 48 hours, teams developed 31 breakthrough innovations that had the potential to transform women and child health in India and around the world. 4 Teams focused on the challenges posed by Novartis Foundation. CAMTech-USAID Medical Hack-athon is a great platform to innovate and showcase ideas among peer group. We are glad that our design has been recognized, especially aimed at addressing one of the pressing issues in the reproductive and maternal sciences. This recognition gives us further impetus to develop a prototype of this design and thus take it to the next level. Dr. Lavanya Kiran, Consultant, Obstetrics and Gynecocology at Narayana Health City (Bangalore, India) Hacking Store: CAMTech hack- a- thons encourage participants to explore building prototypes of their innovations when required. This methodology helps answer critical questions at each stage of the product development cycle and creates room for multiple rounds of iterations on product design based on end- user feedback. The CAMTech India Jugaad- a- thon provided participants with a comprehensive list of prototyping materials to be used during the 48 hours event. 10 P age

11 Participants had access to a comprehensive set prototyping materials through an on- site hack- store. Mentorship CAMTech recruited 70 mentors to attend and support teams throughout the 48 hour duration of the hack- a- thon. Mentors played a vital role by sharing their expertise in health, engineering and/or business to aid in the development of new tools and technologies. Specifically, mentors: Provided insight to pressing clinical challenges in RMNCH care delivery in India. Co- created alongside engineers, entrepreneurs and other clinicians, technologies that reduce barriers to RMNCH care. Provided end- user input to design technologies that have high adoption potential. Advised on business models that will ensure commercial viability. I've been in Medicine for the last 24 years, and have been a Pediatrician for the last 15 years...but in all these years, I've never had the opportunity to participate (and mentor) in an event quite like the Jugaad-a-thon. As clinicians, the vast majority of us are ensconced in our work and our academics...and rarely look for (let alone find) opportunities for cross-disciplinary interactions. When I witnessed the co-creativity of people with different skills and talent, sitting together and solving these problems...and ACTUALLY coming-up with workable solutions. It was pretty awesome!! Dr. K. Mahesh, Clinical Professor, Department of Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric CMR Services, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Center It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and energy among the young participants! We need more such platforms to bring the bright minds from different streams together. The proper follow through and transformation of these ideas into product in the market is the key to making a real difference to our world. - Dr. Nilima Kadambi, Executive Director - Pharma Div at Belle Sante - India 11 P a g e
