2 EUROPEAN SEMINAR EU Funding for Environmental Projects Biodiversity, Nature Conservation & Protection, Natural Resource Management There is More European Funding Available for Environmental Projects than Ever Before The success of environmental projects e. g. on biodiversity conservation, renewable energy or environmental engineering mainly depends on an effective funding and a good project management. In the current programming period , the environmental focus is present through funding instruments such as LIFE, ERDF, HORIZON 2020, EAFRD and LEADER. The multitude of funding and financial instruments for environmental projects makes it difficult to obtain a comprehensive overview that highlights the differences between the funding options. In addition significant changes have been introduced by newly adopted regulations concerning the most relevant EU funding programmes. However, managing the funds and applying successfully for European funds has proven to be difficult and will remain so. Nevertheless, to fund projects investing in the environment with ERDF or to reduce the environmental impact with LIFE, it is worth to spend time on an application. The beneficiaries may also combine their efforts supported by HORIZON 2020 with new funding opportunities, build strategic partnerships with local businesses and use these synergies for even more successful nature protection measures. The possibility of integrated projects in LIFE (with budgets up to 20 Million Euro) opens possibilities to rethink environmental projects completely. Know how to Apply for and Manage LIFE, H2020, and ESI Funds Effectively Practitioners from the public, private and research sectors as well as NGOs are confronted with a range of challenges when applying for European funds. Thorough knowledge of where to get funding and financial instruments and how to comply with all obligations that need to be fulfilled for a proper application is key to success. Being aware of the characteristics of high quality proposals further strengthens the position of prospective beneficiaries. During the course of the project, there are further administrative requirements that have to be followed: Eligibility of costs, performance indicators as well as reporting obligations are always difficult to assess for Project Leaders and Administrators. However, a profound knowledge of these requirements is crucial to avoid a recovery of grants. Therefore, take the opportunity at our European seminar to receive first-hand information from experienced practitioners in the field. Profit from best practice examples to manage successful environmental projects and to make full use of available ESI & H2020 funding. Who is this seminar for? Heads of Unit, Team Leaders, (Senior) Experts, Project Managers, Advisors, European Affairs (Experts) from organisations such as: public administrations on national, regional and local level - Ministry of Environment - Ministry of Agriculture - Ministry of Finance - Ministry of Economy - Ministry of Transport / Infrastructure - Ministry of Construction - Environmental agencies NGOs universities and research institutes construction, planning and energy companies Public, semi-private and private administrations of natural resources such as woodlands involved in environmental topics. Very informative and an excellent networking opportunity. Bernard McClure, Assistant Director, NI Environment Agency, United Kingdom 2
