2 Outline The Centre The case of Space Past Present Future Achievements in Asia Pacific Conclusions Abstract: In the Space domain The Centre provided a diversified paramount of supports, such as European Enterprise Network bridging the needs of European and Japanese companies; the Vulcanus in Europe and in Japan providing exchange internships of selected qualified students with ad hoc identified companies and the Minerva Fellowships offering opportunity to middle career experts to boost their understanding of the two regional areas. In addition, The Centre is managing the secretariat of the EU Japan Business Round Table dealing with several industrial sectors, where also Space is a permanent agenda item. Additionally, the other options are Keys to Japan supporting the willingness of European SMEs considering marketing a product or service in Japan and Step in Japan supplying a landing pad for EU SMEs planning on entering into or expanding within Japan. The Centre reached significant with GNSS Asia and GNSS Japan. The first one, funded by EU FP7, had the goal to develop and implement GNSS industrial cooperation activities between the European Union and China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea and Taiwan focusing on the downstream sector (applications and receivers). It successfully performed its goals in the assignment of facilitating the GNSS awareness in Asia through a number of activities (e. g. GNSS solutions Competition, exchange of expertise, market assessment and partnering supports). The GNSS Japan, launched in April 2014, has a complementary mission with the GNSS Asia, because it aims at supporting EU Japan business and technology partnerships in the GNSS Industry.

3 The Centre The EU Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation, established in 1987, is a unique venture between the EU Commission and the Japanese METI. Its mission is the promotion of industrial, trade and investment cooperation between the EU and Japan and at improving EU and Japanese companies competitiveness and cooperation by facilitating exchanges of experience and know how between EU and Japanese businesses Its head office is in Tokyo and its branch officeis in Brussels It is headed by two General Managers Mr. Silviu Jora from EU side and Mr. Masanori Osumi from Japanese side It has a total staff of 30 persons
