1 2012 OFFICERS AND BOARD MEMBERS MnGFOA Newsletter October 2017 Excellence and Leadership in Finance Included in this Issue: Fall Classes October Monthly Meeting October 18 th Job Opening CPFO Exam Testing 4.5 th Annual Meat Raffle Mentoring Program 2017 Networking Events Annual Conference CPE Certificates Member Happenings 2018 Chairs & Vice Chairs Annual Conference Feedback President s Message By: Michelle Pietrick We ve just completed another successful Annual Conference at Arrowwood in Alexandria. Nicole and the Conference Committee assembled a wide range of topics for our education and discussion sessions. I heard many good comments about the sessions and speakers. Kari and Michelle and the Social Committee put together a great slate of networking opportunities and evening entertainment. The MNGFOA is a 100% volunteer organization a BIG THANK YOU to all the Volunteers that put together an excellent conference. GFOA President Patrick McCoy provided a brief review of GFOA offerings on Friday at the conference. The main point he raised is the tax reform proposed by Washington. It appears that the exemption for municipal bond interest will remain untouched, but the state and local tax (SALT) deduction is marked for repeal. GFOA urges us to reach out to our Congressional representatives and ask them to oppose repealing the SALT deduction. If this deduction is not repealed, many people will be paying higher federal taxes. If taxpayers can no longer deduct state and local taxes, including property tax, we will be under more pressure than ever when adopting our annual levies. More information can be found at Protecting Local Control in Our Tax Code. At the Thursday annual business meeting amendments to the bylaws were approved. The meeting ended on a high note with Josh Feldman from the City of Eagan being named 2018 Treasurer. Congratulations to Josh!
