We focus on issues including jobs, housing, education, immigrant rights, environmental health, and neighborhood safety Training Dates: October 15, 22, 29 and November 5 9:00am- 3:30pm Applications due Wednesday, October 5, 2016 FOR MORE INFORMATION PLEASE CONTACT MARLENE MONTANEZ AT MMONTANEZ@LAANE.ORG OR (213)
2 LONG BEACH COALITION FOR GOOD JOBS AND A HEALTHY COMMUNITY & BUILDING HEALTHY COMMUNITIES: LONG BEACH PRESENT: LONG BEACH RISING! LEADERSHIP PROGRAM What is the Long Beach Rising! Leadership Program? It is a collaborative project of Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy, Building Healthy Communities: Long Beach, Long Beach Coalition for Good Jobs and a Healthy Community, and various community partners to offer a comprehensive civic-engagement program to promote civic participation, alliance building, voter engagement, and community organizing in communities historically marginalized from political processes, including low-income communities. What will participants gain from the program? The program includes training on community organizing, alliance building, civic-engagement strategies, understanding power and political analysis, and building strategies to win justice in our communities. We value the knowledge and experience of our participants and we aim to learn from one another as well as deepen our commitment to leadership development, political advocacy, community organizing, and movement building. Lastly, participants will be able to put theory into practice and expand their skills in canvassing and outreach by participating in non-partisan get-out-the-vote efforts in local neighborhoods. What do we hope to accomplish? We hope to broaden our outreach and build unity in local neighborhoods, meaningfully engage residents in the political process, and inspire residents to use their power to make well-informed decisions to improve their city. By working closely with local residents, leaders, and organizations we can find common ground and build collective power to work towards a shared vision of a more livable Long Beach for everyone.
