1 2017 COMMUNITY IMPACT GRANT APPLICATION Dear Community Agencies: Thank you for your interest in our 2017 Community Impact Grants Program. The Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta Impact Grant Program promotes a healthy, vibrant community that embraces diversity and support all of its members. The Community Foundation is unique because it encompasses all areas of community. It is through the generosity of our fund holders and donors that we are able to offer these grants to our region. The Community Foundation is honoured to be able to offer these grants to you. To be considered for a Grant, applicants must: Be a registered charity or other qualified donee defined under the Income Tax Act; Demonstrate financial responsibility and effective management; Demonstrate inclusiveness and respect for cultural diversity; Demonstrate a commitment to the project through a meaningful contribution of their own human/and or financial resources. The deadline for completed applications is September 1, 2017 at 5:00 pm. Please be advised, the Community Foundation may request additional information about your project or organization during the review process. 2 GRANTING GUIDELINES The Community Foundation supports growth and innovation through grants for projects that: 1. Are Community Self Directed Demonstrate commitment from applicants and their partners Link the organizations mandates and strategic plans Build upon community strengths Show evidence of collaboration with others in the same field Involve those affected by the proposal in the development, implementation and evaluation of the proposal Use, enhance, or expand the skills capacities and assets of local people and communities 2. Lead to Measurable and Sustainable Impact Are likely to be effective and to serve as a model for others Address root causes Respond to identified needs and priorities Show evidence of significant, appropriate and local support Provide realistic plans for longer-term funding if the program is on-going Please note Grants are not available for: 100% of the project s budget Operating or capital deficits (salaries are not eligible for funding, however, contract fees for specific projects are eligible) Annual fundraising drives for operating support Activities of religious organizations that primarily serve their membership and/or direct religious purposes Requests that could be construed as having political, religious, commercial, or discriminatory overtones Endowment funds Retroactive funding for any project expenses incurred prior to the Foundation s decision date Individuals GRANTING PROCESS Please send your completed application in electronic format only to info@buildingtomorrowtoday.com by September 1, 2017 at 5:00 pm Grant Advisory Committee will review applications in November 2017 Grant recommendations will be made to the Community Foundation Board of Directors in November 2017 Successful grant applicants will be notified during the last week of November 2017 Granting and Awards presentation will take place on December 6, 2017 Final reporting is required from all successful grant applicants

3 SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS After the grant has been awarded the Community Foundation requires the following: Written approval prior to any alterations in the project plan or timeline A final report that includes essential elements of the project: Did it meet the criteria of the approved project? An interim report if stipulated in the grant agreement Appropriate acknowledgement of the Community Foundation support in community materials and events as outlined in the grant agreement Please note: not meeting reporting requirements may affect future granting to your organization GRANT CHECKLIST Completed application form List of Board of Directors/Officers Most recent audited financial statements Most recent annual report Operating budget detailing revenue and expenses for the current fiscal year Where applicable, quotes for renovations or the purchase of capital equipment

10 SECTION 5 ORGANIZATIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY The Community Foundation must be fiscally responsible and maintain the trust of its donors and the general public. We must ensure that all grants awarded are addressing needs in the community and that these grants are being used for the intended purposes stated in the Grant Agreements as approved by the Community Foundation s Board of Directors. If your organization is successful in obtaining a 2017 Community Impact Grant your organization agrees to: Provide the Community Foundation with a detailed final report including project financials. Provide the Community Foundation with a detailed report of the pros and cons of your project. Provide the Community Foundation with press releases, brochures, and any other applicable documents in regards to your program. Provide the Community Foundation with testimonials from people effected by your project as well as final numbers for how many people the program reached.
