2 Page 2 of 6 OUR ORGANIZATION Our Mission We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Who We Are Founded in 1996, Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada has granted over 1,500 wishes to children in Clark, Esmeralda, Lincoln and Nye counties. Additionally, each year the chapter hosts nearly 50 children from other states and countries who wish to visit Las Vegas or meet celebrities performing in Las Vegas. That means our chapter is involved in granting a wish nearly every three days, and we do it with a small and committed staff as well as the collective strength of over 100 active volunteers to fulfill our mission. Our volunteers participate in all facets of our operations including fundraising, office support, special events, community relations, wish granting and governance. Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada is part of Make-A-Wish America, whose network of chapters has granted more than 218,000 wishes since Today, a wish is granted every 38 minutes in the U.S. History In 1980, a group of policemen in Phoenix, Arizona fulfilled the wish of seven-year-old Chris Greicius, a boy battling leukemia. Chris wish was to be a policeman. His wish was granted and he was sworn in as an honorary patrolman and equipped with a uniform, helmet and badge. Chris even enjoyed a helicopter ride. Chris died five days later and was buried with full police honors in his honorary patrolman s uniform. From that humble beginning in 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has spread throughout the U.S. and abroad to become the largest wish granting organization in the world.

3 Page 3 of 6 OUR ORGANIZATION How A Wish Happens Any child who is between the ages of 2 ½ and 18 (at the time of referral), is verified by a physician to have a life-threatening medical condition, and who has not previously been granted a wish by any wish-granting organization, is eligible for a wish. After determining eligibility, our volunteer wish granters ask the child four very important questions: If you could go anywhere,have anything, meet anyone, or be anything, what would it be? Then the magic begins Administration The work of Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada is accomplished by a volunteer governing board of directors, a paid staff of twelve, and many dedicated volunteers. The Southern Nevada Chapter is registered with the Nevada Secretary of State, and is a federally registered 501(c)(3) non-profit incorporated in the State of Nevada. Financial Information Funds raised by Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada are used to fulfill children s dreams and create special memories for the entire family. Approximately 75% of every dollar raised is spent on program services. This year s annual budget is $2.2 million with the goal of granting approximately 80 wishes. Over the next two years, the organization plans to meet our full annual wish granting potential of approximately 150 wishes. We rely on the generosity of individuals, corporations, organizations and foundations to provide the cash and in-kind support necessary to fulfill our mission.

4 Page 4 of 6 INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION Purpose of Internship: To provide opportunities to participate in the magic of wish granting, as well as opportunities to gain job experience/workplace development, with an emphasis on nonprofit operations and management; earn academic credit; and engage in meaningful community service. Length of Internship: Varies, depending on each intern's area of interest, scope-of-work, and schedule; however, a minimum commitment of 12 weeks is required. PLEASE NOTE THIS INTERNSHIP IS UNPAID. We will support student interns seeking academic credit in every way possible; however, students are responsible for ensuring that school requirements for receiving credit are met. Our office hours are Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. We are flexible and happy to accomodate interns' other activities, but we do expect interns to commit to a weekly schedule and stick to it. Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Skills of ALL Interns: Ability to learn quickly and work independently Excellent organization, communication, writing and problem solving skills Ability to multitask and handle multiple projects while staying organized Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Respect all staff, volunteers, community partners and wish families Maintain regular and predictable attendance Ability to follow through and handle projects responsibly and keep appropriate staff informed Answer and transfer calls in the office in a polite and professional manner Have fun, learn well, and personally represent the Make-A-Wish values of Hope, Strength & Joy The ideal Make-A-Wish intern is someone seeking professional development, community engagement, and/or academic credit through a structured workplan encompassing one or more facets of wish granting, including non-profit management, operations and finance; resource development, marketing, and special event planning; and program services. Prior experience is not required. 5 Page 5 of 6 SAMPLE INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES* DEVELOPMENT INTERN - POSITION SUMMARY Development Internships provide opportunities to support Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada's fundraising platforms, which are designed to raise the funding needed to grant wishes. Most fundraising activities involve private funding sources including individuals, family foundations, and corporate giving programs. Development Internships will emphasize best practices such as donor identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Other facets of fundraising may also come into play, such as planned giving and strategic campaigns. MARKETING INTERN - POSITION SUMMARY Marketing Internships provide opportunities to share Make-A-Wish stories with multiple audiences, including volunteers, community partners, donors, and wish families. In addition to storytelling, our Marketing activities are designed to support fundraising initiatives that provide the resources needed to grant wishes. Therefore, Marketing interns will work closely and collaboratively with Development staff in creating, researching, writing, and planning a wide array of collateral materials. PROGRAM SERVICES INTERN - POSITION SUMMARY Program Services Internships provide a wide range of opportunities to participate in the actual grant making process, which includes everything from record-keeping to research to logistics planning to communicating/coordinating with volunteers and community partners to directly interacting with Wish Kids and their families. SPECIAL EVENTS INTERN - POSITION SUMMARY Special Events Internships provide opportunities to participate in all aspects of Make-A-Wish SouthernNevada's two major special events: the Fashion Show Luncheon (held each fall) and our Walk For Wishes (held each spring). The Intern's primary responsibilities will include assisting with marketing of events, facilitating the donation of high-end auction items, and designing and implementing the visual aspects of silent auction displays. Associated responsibilities will include providing general assistance to event donors, guests, sponsors and vendors, as well as office support to the Development and Marketing teams. *We look forward to tailoring internship opportunities to each intern's individual skills, talents, areas of interest, and academic/job development needs.
