1 PANTHEON News and Information For The CCM Community Chaplin Musical Features Graduates September 27, 2010 Ashley Brown co-stars in the La Jolla Play - house production of the new musical Limelight, based on the life of Charlie Chaplin. Don Braunagel for SanDiego.com writes: Wisely, Ashley Brown has been cast as both Chaplin s mother, Hannah, and wife Oona. Outstanding as both, she represents the arc of his life, from the unhappiness of being separated from his mentally ill mother to the joy of a lasting and loving marriage. 2 Applications Open for Faculty Research Grants Applications are now being accepted for the Faculty Research Grants Program from the University Research Council. Only one application may be submitted per faculty member. Details for applying are on-line at PURPOSE: The Faculty Research Grants Program provides research support or summer stipend support for the development of faculty research and scholarship. The program provides financial support for faculty research programs, primarily for those in the initial stages of developing their research career. ELIGIBILITY: Researchers from UC, CCHMC, VA and Shriners are eligible for this award. The Principal Investigator must be at least an 80% FTE UC faculty member. Faculty with extramural research support over $50,000 per year are not eligible for funding. Faculty who received URC funding in the 2009/2010 academic year for the Faculty Research Support program are not eligible. FUNDING PRIORITIES: Proposals will be evaluated primarily based on the scholarly merit of the proposed activities and the capabilities of the principal investigator. Secondary criteria that will be considered include: use of funds as seed money for the collection of preliminary data or to demonstrate feasibility, thereby bolstering prospects for future support from external sponsors; career stage of the PI (with strong preference for junior faculty); innovativeness; efforts to obtain funds from other sources, or the unavailability of any alternative sources of support. Proposals specific to teaching programs will not be considered for this competition since faculty development money is available through the Faculty Development Council for this purpose. 3 George Street Revival Stars CCM Graduates Casting has been announced for the George Street Playhouse's upcoming production of of [title of show], the four-person Broadway musical that chronicles the creation of that musical. Directed by Matt Lenz, performances will begin Nov. 16 at the New Jersey venue with an official opening scheduled for Nov. 19. The production will continue through Dec. 12. The cast will feature actor, musician and Playbill.com columnist Seth Rudetsky as Jeff, CCM Musical Theatre graduates Tyler Maynard as Hunter and Lauren Kennedy as Heidi, and Susan Mosher as Susan. Jesse Vargas will music direct and play the role of Larry, the music director. Naxos Video Library Added To help you celebrate the first day of classes, I am pleased to announce that the CCM Library has a new subscription resource: Naxos Video Library NVL is our first streaming video resource and currently includes about 300 titles: operas, concerts and a few documentaries. This number should grow, although not likely at the exponential pace we have experienced with Naxos Music Library. There is an online user guide that is also available as a pdf from the Library web page. NVL has a public playlist feature that allows any user to create playlists of entire videos or clips of their own creation. The playlist feature requires password access, so please contact me for the password if you are interested. The are two video quality options. The current default is high (2 Mbps), which can understandably lead to some long buffering waits. You can change this to standard using the Quality option in the lower left. 4 Drama Bogart Report From Dominic Bogart (CCM Drama 2000) in Los Angeles: I have been very busy since returning to LA from two years in Chicago with Jersey Boys (for my sanity s sake, remind me to never again do a show that many times). Some recent things I ve been doing: ABC s FlashForward recurring role of black ops soldier, Keith Conner; a lead in Mickey Fisher s feature film, Autumn Mixtape; I played guitar, sang, and did improv opposite Ryan Seacrest in a Scope promo; played the starving, blasphemous, murderous Farmer in a Sundance winning production company s b.c. period passion film, By The Time The Sun Is Hot; played socially awkward, Russian immigrant, organ harvester Boris in the short film, Harvest; bible-hammering interventionist B.B. in the religious-political satire, Jesus Lovin Buddhist; and currently shooting a lead in the prosthetic/cgi heavy film, Scat Players, based on paintings by German expressionist/dada artist, Otto Dix ( I m also excitedly preparing to originate the lead role of Buddy (Truman Capote) in the world premier musical adaptation of Capote s short story, A Christmas Memory, at The Lucie Stern Theatre in Palo Alto, CA.
