1 Renewable energy policy in NSW NSW 2021 Goal 22 commits the Government to contribute to the national target of 20 percent renewable energy. NSW Renewable Energy Action Plan positions NSW to increase energy from renewable sources at least cost to the energy customer and with maximum benefits to NSW. The Plan aims to: Attract renewable energy investment Build community support for renewable energy Grow renewable energy expertise

2 Renewable Energy Advocate Amy Kean works across Government, industry and research institutions to make investing in renewable energy in NSW more attractive. 3 Regional Clean Energy Program Aims to engage communities early and effectively on renewable energy projects and facilitate community owned renewable energy projects. The program, includes eight Regional Coordinators who provide advice and support to communities and industry across the State. For more information visit

4 Office of Environment and Heritage Planning Teams Provide strategic environmental and Aboriginal cultural heritage planning and assessment services. Engage and collaborate with individuals, developers, Aboriginal community, local government, and other government and non-government stakeholders. Help the community make decisions about balancing the growth of their communities with their environment and local landscape.

5 Jobs and investment There are over 13,000 jobs supported by renewable energy in NSW. There are over 8,000 megawatts (MW) of new renewable energy project proposals in NSW - either with development approval or in the process of acquiring approval. If realised, these projects will inject over $12 billion of capital investment into NSW.

6 NSW Trade and Investment offers services for businesses wanting to launch, expand in, or relocate to NSW. The Regional Infrastructure Investment Fund provides assistance to projects with strong economic development outcomes in regional NSW. The TechVouchers program provides grants of up to $15,000 to small to medium enterprises for testing, validation and feasibility studies in NSW public sector research organisations such as universities. The Jobs Action Plan is a scheme that offers payroll tax rebates of up to $5,000 to businesses creating new jobs.

7 TechVouchers TechVouchers is a grants program administered by NSW Trade & Investment that has been active since 2012 The primary aim of the program is: to grow innovation in industry, particular small business encourage NSW SMEs use of technical infrastructure and capabilities in Public Sector Research Organisations (PSROs) located in NSW and, To seed research collaborations between these two groups

8 TechVoucher Funding Components SME Eligibility: In order to be eligible, companies must: be incorporated in NSW; have fewer than 200 employees; turnover less that AUD$30 million per annum; have been in operation for at least one year; be able to demonstrate the ability to match the voucher cash and in-kind, and conduct the very large majority of proposed activities in NSW

9 What can SMES used a Voucher for? A TechVoucher can be used to: fund access to research facilities such as supercomputers and advanced manufacturing systems; fund product or process design activities; trial production runs or processes to demonstrate technical concepts; validate or demonstrate the technical capabilities of the product, process or service, scale-up or reproducibility of a process; support a research project in partnership with a PSRO; support a research project that will lead to an application for Commonwealth funding e.g. ARC and Enterprise Connect

10 Other Funding Elements Opportunities Minimum Viable Product (MVP) $15k: Proof of Concept early stage development 3 month project period Collaborative Solutions (CS) $100k: Form a Consortia full-scale development and piloting of a solution 9-12 month project period PSROs can be a partner or pilot organisation

11 Regional Business Development Managers NSW Trade & Investment has Regional Business Development Managers on the ground across regional NSW, including in the South East and Tablelands. NSW Trade & Investment also has an international network of trade commissioners in China (Guangzhou and Shanghai), India (Mumbai), Japan (Tokyo), South Korea (Seoul), UAE (Abu Dhabi) and the US (San Francisco), who provide leads and information about investing in NSW.
