3 1.0 Overview 1.0 Overview The goal of Australia Awards PNG is to contribute to equitable economic growth and poverty reduction in Papua New Guinea (PNG) by the development of highly skilled men and women who are able to apply their professional and technical expertise, experience and leadership skills in the workplace and in society. Consistent with the Papua New Guinea Vision 2050 and key priorities in the Papua New Guinea Development Strategic Plan , Australia Awards PNG will play its part by supporting targeted sectors to provide human resource development and training, consistent with its objectives.

4 1.1 Grant Guidelines 1.1 Grant Guidelines AusAID provides funding through Australia Awards PNG for a flexible program of small grants to; i. Assist young and emerging leaders in targeted groups or sectors to access activities, networks and funding to strengthen their leadership and governance skills. ii. iii. support professional associations to provide professional development opportunities for their membership, including those in the provinces and remote locations and Support Australian Alumni to play an active role in the development of PNG. Preference will be given to disadvantaged groups such as those working with the disabled and to men and women living and working in the provinces. Advice and opportunities will be provided to women to identify courses, training or placements that increase their potential for high skilled employment or promotion Grant Amounts Grants will be awarded up to K30,000 and applications may be submitted at any time Eligibility for Small Grants Selection and approval for a grant is competitive, based on meeting the assessment criteria listed below: i. Evidence of Registration To be eligible for a grant, organisations must be a PNG registered organisation (nongovernment organisation, humanitarian and faith-based organisation, not-for-profit organisation preferably serving civil society); a PNG professional association; a peak body such as a representative industry or sectorial group (health and education) and a PNG Australia Alumni Association. Grants are not provided to profit making enterprises or to assist government funded training providers deliver their training to students. Only one grant will generally be provided to an organization within a twelve month period. / 03

5 1.1 Grant Guidelines Note * Priority may be given to: (1) organisations which respond to the needs of people with a disability (2) organisations supporting young leaders or professional/occupational groups, and (3) organisations supporting young leaders in Civil Society. ii. Nomination Associations and organisations may sponsor or nominate individuals for professional development; however individuals are not eligible to submit their own proposals. iii. Reference Applications for a grant must be accompanied by a reference from an independent referee attesting to the history and credibility of your organisation Application Procedure Applications for funding must be endorsed by the executive or office bearers of the eligible organisation. Applicants should provide detailed information, associated costs, timelines and clearly state outcomes as a result of receiving a grant. A copy of the grant guidelines is available upon request. Applications may be submitted at any time. Outcomes on successful grant applications will be notified by and mail. Applications can be submitted: 1. ed applications are encouraged.
