Grants for Individuals Do More! Grants for Young People Grant Guidance Pack Version: V0.3 Date issued: Author: Hyde Charitable Trust 1
Contacts Post: address Hyde Charitable Trust c/o Hyde Plus Team Hollingsworth House PO BOX 51182, Lewisham London, SE13 9BU Online applications: Phone: Wahid Islam: Introduction Do More! - Grants for Young People The Hyde Charitable Trust (HCT) is a registered charity (Charity No ) and part of The Hyde Group. It has its own Board of Trustees which agrees funding priorities and plans for grant-giving. HCT is managed on a daily basis by Hyde Plus. HCT provides grants for individuals, community projects and larger bespoke projects. All grants are aimed at supporting Hyde residents and the communities where they live. Grants primarily support Hyde Plus key themes. Each year HCT has approximately 300,000 to distribute as grants. Annual budgets for these are agreed at the start of each year. 2
This Guidance Pack is for Do More! - Grants for Young People, a summary of which is: This grant covers the cost of activities that allow young people up to the age of 18 and living in Hyde households the opportunity to build confidence, develop a skill or enjoy a new experience. Grants of up to 200 per young resident are available. 3
Do More! Grants for Young People Guidance Notes for Applicants We hope that the following guidance will provide you with the relevant information you need to apply for a Do More! Grant for Young People. Do More! grants are funded by the Hyde Charitable Trust and administered by Hyde Plus. These grants were also known as Hyde Young Pride Awards until a name change in July If you would like someone who speaks your community s language to help you complete the application form, please contact us and we will do our best to put you in touch with someone who speaks your language and understands this grant. They will assist you in understanding the application form, which must be completed in English. We will also do our best to provide these guidance notes in alternative formats, for example large print, if requested. Please contact Wahid Islam, Hyde Plus Grants Administrator on or us at grantsadministration@hyde-housing.co.uk About the programme help our young residents up to the age of 18 with funding for activities that will increase their skills, confidence, experience and learning. If your child or children have interests or activity needs that your household budget can t stretch to; this grant could help. The grant will cover the cost of one activity or a series of lessons or activities over a 12 month period. It can be used to top up your own payments if you can afford part of the cost yourself. Payments are made direct to the activity provider. 4
Who is eligible to apply? You can apply if you are a Hyde resident. The grant is available for all children living in Hyde owned homes (including looked after children) across all Hyde regions. To qualify children must be under 18 years of age. You are able to apply for one grant for each child. You can apply for each child in your household although there are yearly maximum award limits per household. If a child has benefitted from a Do More! grant before (previously known as Hyde Young Pride Awards) you are able to apply again as long as this is at least 12 months after the date of your last successful application. Our Grants Team can help you with this if you are unsure when the child last benefitted from a grant. If you agree with the following three statements then you are eligible to apply: 1. I am a Hyde resident named on a Hyde tenancy, applying on behalf of a young Hyde resident(s) aged up to 18 and named on a Hyde tenancy 2. I can supply one written reference on letter headed paper, or provided by from an organisational account. 3. I need 200 or less (one child) or 400 or less (household total) to support the activity. These limits may be higher if your child has a disability. When to apply The Do More! Grant Fund is open all year round and applications are assessed frequently. It can take up to 4 weeks to hear a decision about your application and, if approved, a further 2 4 weeks to process payment so it is best to apply well in advance of when you want your activity to take place. 5
Funds are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis and there may be occasions when we close the fund until more grants funds are made available. Before You Start Once you are working on your application you will need various pieces of information, and you may find it useful to think about this before you start: What do you want to do? Why do you want to do it? Where will it happen? When will it happen? How much will it cost? Completing the Application Form You can apply online at You should complete the application form with as much information as possible. If you are applying for more than one child you will need to complete an application form for each child. You will need to support your application request with a written or typed reference from the young person s school head teacher, teacher, tutor, housing officer, social worker, health visitor or youth worker (or similar official person who knows the family). This reference must be signed and on official headed paper, or received from an organisational account. The reference must be uploaded on flexigrant as part of your application so please upload a scan or photograph of the reference if you have a hard copy or upload directly if you have an electronic copy. We are unable to process or approve an application without a reference and the responsibility for this lies with you. 6
You will need to tell us about the cost of the chosen activity your child would like to take part in, if the activity is made up of a number of sessions over a period of time tell us the cost per session and the number of sessions. You will need to tell us when the activity will start and end, and if possible provide the dates the activity will take place. You will also need to tell us know where the activity is taking place and a contact person for it as we will need to speak to them to arrange payment on your behalf. Please follow the guidelines to help you complete the application. How much can I apply for? You can apply for funding of up to 200 for one child. If you are applying for more than one child you can apply for up to 400 per household. If you are applying for repeat funding you are allowed up to 100 per child and up to 200 per household. You may only apply for a grant for 1 activity or series of activities per child in any 12 month period. What can the grant money be spent on? We are able to support with funding for any cultural, educational, arts, sporting activities or trips. The grant can only be spent on costs directly relating to your activity. These might be extra tuition, swimming, football, music, school trips, performing arts or equipment needed to undertake any of these activities. What can t the money be spent on? You are not allowed to spend Do More! Grant funds on: Childcare costs Travel to and from activities 7
Medical expenses Activities or expenditure that happen or start before a grant is confirmed Activities that promote political or religious beliefs Purchase of alcohol Any unlawful activity How are the applications assessed? Applications are assessed based on: 1. Applicants and activity being eligible for funding as described in these guidance notes and the application form 2. Evidence of the likely benefits the activity will bring to the young person 3. Full information being provided as requested in the guidance notes and application form 4. An appropriate referee supporting the application Awards are assessed on a case-by-case basis and award levels will vary depending on the level of award requested and the current demand levels for Do More! Grants. Who makes the final decision? Applications scored to a Pass level are recommended for approval. The Hyde Charitable Trust Manager makes the final decision whether to grant funding or not. Letting you know the outcome of your application Once your application has been assessed we will let you know the outcome by letter or . Whilst every effort is made to process applications quickly you should allow 4 weeks for this to happen. If you commit to anything before you have heard if your application has been approved you will be doing so at your own risk. 8
What happens if you are successful in being offered a grant? We will write to you offering you funding and setting out the detailed terms and conditions. This letter is called the Acceptance of Grant Letter. We will also write to the activity provider setting out detailed terms and requesting a formal invoice. If the activity is a series of sessions we may pay for a set of sessions at a time and we will agree this with the activity provider. What will you need to do to receive the funding? You will be responsible for signing and returning the Acceptance of Grant Letter, which you will receive once the application has been approved. Should you be successful in your application, payment will be made directly to the activity provider s bank account. What to do once your funded activity is finished We will ask you to provide some information about how the activity went and what those who took part in it thought. This monitoring information is essential so we can continue to secure funding for the Do More! Grant Fund. Once the activity is finished you will be contacted and asked to complete an evaluation form with us over the telephone. Declaration By signing the application form you agree to abide by the terms and conditions of the Do More! Grant Fund as they are set out in the application form and in these guidance notes, and understand that any offer of funding will be subject to your proposed activity remaining within grant criteria. 9
Data Protection We will comply with the Data Protection Act in relation to your personal information. By accepting the grant conditions you will be agreeing that we can use this data including your feedback for the purposes of the grant. Please read that notice carefully.
