We re designed to serve the Pittsburgh region by offering a platform to share points of view that can affect us all. To help deliver on this promise, we search for partners that share a desire to showcase the best our region has to offer to our neighbors near and far. Pittsburgh s renaissance is fueled by the very qualities that TED stands for: technology, entertainment and design. 6 Thank you for considering this partnership with TEDxPittsburgh TED TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a nonprofit devoted to ideas Worth Spreading, and that is what we have come here to do. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple intitiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. Past speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nadan Nilekani, Phillippe Starck, Isabel Allende, and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Our event is structured to promote an array of ideas and is designed around moving presentations. TEDx TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TEDlike experience. At our TEDxPittsburgh event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. TEDxPittsburgh As Pittsburgh accepts the new title of a technology driven city, we hope to highlight those who have and will continue to shape the world. As a TEDx event, TEDxPittsburgh will expose an eclectic mix of local talks and videos previously recorded at TED conferences with the community.
