1 PROJECT COMMERCIALIZATION Regional Acceleration And Mentorship Program (Ramp) Expansion VCU Pharmaceutical Accelerator GO VIRGINIA $ REGION DESCRIPTION $245,000 2 The project enhances and expands the reach of the regional acceleration and mentorship program (RAMP), a partnership between the Roanoke-Blacksburg Technology Council, the city of Roanoke and the Virginia Western Community College, which offers technology-based startups access to classroom education, mentoring and assistance in identifying capital. $500,000 4 This project will lead to the creation of an advanced manufacturing cluster by commercializing advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and equipment developed through the Medicines for All (M4ALL) program at Virginia Commonwealth University. Lighthouse University $1,000,000 4 Lighthouse Labs, a top-30 seed-stage accelerator program, and the da Vinci Center at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) will partner to expand the recently piloted Virginia Start-Up Spring Break and Pre-Accelerator programs. The project will pilot the Lighthouse U program, which will feature a series of events and training opportunities to prepare students to launch their own businesses after graduation. As part of the collaboration, Lighthouse Labs will introduce a new summer cohort program for recent graduates of Virginia universities that participated in Lighthouse U. GO Virginia funds will be used for salaries, travel, program events and seed funding for winning student teams at Lighthouse U and for summer cohort participants. 757 Seed Fund $140,000 5 This project will establish the administrative structure for a new fund to provide seed-stage investments to Virginia s most compelling innovation-based, high-growth companies. The creation of a new seed fund to complement the work of 757 Angels will help to build a critical mass of quality investable companies necessary to establish an innovation economy in the Hampton Roads region. TALENT DEVELOPMENT AND CREDENTIALING Welding Training Program $130,000 6 The proposed project will establish a new welding training facility to offer daytime courses through Rappahannock Community College (RCC) to train adult welders for employment at local businesses. RCC currently offers evening welding courses at the Northern Neck Technical Center, which are at capacity. During daytime hours, this facility is used for high school automotive training courses, so RCC has been unable to expand their welding courses. Cybersecurity Workforce Development And Jobs Program Crafting Higher Paying Jobs And Adult Beverage Exports $200,000 8 The proposed project will implement a new cyber security workforce development program through Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC) focused on bringing cyber security jobs to the Shenandoah Valley. The project aims to spur regional growth in the high-wage, cyber security industry through the implementation of a new self-paced, non-credit training course. The project will produce new industry credentials (CompTIA Security+) that are not currently offered in the region. $249,472 9 The proposed project will create a program through Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) and Germanna Community College to train candidates in wine and cider making, craft brewing, and distilling. This program will 1

2 establish a career pathway in the adult beverage manufacturing sector and will help to facilitate the scale-up of this growing industry cluster for the region. United Way Of Southwest Virginia: Ignite Internships $250,000 1 The project will expand the Ignite Internship Program throughout the region and will collaboratively align school curriculums with local employer needs. United Way of Southwest Virginia will build a web based platform to deliver activities that will encourage post secondary education and streamlined workforce credentialing, provide work based learning opportunities and match new graduates with local employers. Enhancing The Region Through New Technology For Unmanned Systems $76,000 2 The project will implement a new drone technology training program at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College to capitalize on the Alleghany Highlands Drone Zone Initiative surrounding the development of unmanned systems facilities in the region. This new program will establish a career pathway beginning with project based learning opportunities for high school students and extending to four-year degree attainment through partnerships with other higher-education institutions. Region 2 Talent Collaborative $300,000 2 This project addresses the skills and interest gaps in middle and high-skill occupations in manufacturing, healthcare, and information technology. The project includes 1) a campaign to increase awareness and interest in these industries, and 2) the creation of existing worker-training program to upskill existing employees into higherskilled vacant jobs. Great Opportunities In Technology And Engineering Careers (Go- Tec) $648,000 3 This project will expand existing curriculum offered by six higher education partners, to building a regional training system of scale for careers in IT and focused areas of advanced manufacturing. The overall goal of the project is to build a pipeline of talent beginning with middle school students, in order to increase the number of students entering the five regional training areas of need: precision machining, welding, IT/cybersecurity, robotics/mechatronics/automation, and advanced materials. CCAM Apprentice Academy Pilot Programs $430,000 4 This project addresses the growing needs for workforce development through the implementation of two pilot mechatronics training programs for the CCAM Apprentice Academy. The pilot programs include a Mechatronics Workforce Training Program and a Transitioning Military Program for Industrial Maintenance Mechanics. HR Cyber Co-Lab $642,713 5 The HRCyber Co-Lab will serve as an anchor for innovation in the cybersecurity, data analytics, autonomous vehicles and virtual technologies markets in Hampton Roads. Virginia Digital Shipbuilding Workforce Program $647,540 5 This project will create a regional and statewide program to train approximately 8,500 future workers skilled craftsmen, engineers, designers, and IT professionals - to work in the new digital manufacturing environment and will support Hampton Roads existing advanced manufacturing and shipbuilding clusters. Northern Virginia Tech Talent Pipeline $487,500 7 This project will build upon Northern Virginia s existing computer services and cybersecurity clusters to create a workforce system that effectively attracts, prepares, and retains qualified candidates to fill high demand technology jobs in several targeted, high paying occupational areas: programming and software development; data and data warehousing; and networking and cybersecurity. 2

3 Strengthening Alexandria/Arlington s Technology Workforce $ This initiative is a combination of career pathway assistance, incumbent worker training, upskilling, on-the-job training and credentialing activities aimed to support computer services industry workers in newly located or newly established firms in Northern Virginia. Nova Fablab $250,000 7 Northern Virginia Community College in collaboration with Micron Technology, U.S. Army s Night Vision and Sensors Directorate, and BAE Systems presented this project to create a state-of-the-art engineering technology Fabrication Laboratory in Northern Virginia. This project will help create high-paying engineering jobs by leveraging established internship programs at Micron Technology and BAE Systems as well as the existing SySTEMic curriculum at Northern Virginia Community College. Tech Talent Pipeline Apprenticeship Initiative Rockbridge Area Advanced Manufacturing Program (RAAMP) INFRASTRUCTURE Center For Energy Research And Education (Cere) Industry Labs MAMAC (Competitive) Project Hollyleaf Site Grading $100,000 7 The project will expand the previously awarded Tech Talent Pipeline Initiative, which aims to create a workforce system to effectively attract, prepare and retain qualified candidates to fill high-demand cybersecurity and IT jobs. This project will develop and implement a new apprenticeship program, matching 400 apprentices to employers as an alternative career pathway to traditional two- or four-year degrees. GO Virginia funds will be used to expand staffing for NOVA Workforce, conduct Tech Talent Pipeline outreach, and develop and implement the apprenticeship curriculum and models. $100,000 8 This project aims to address the demand for welders throughout the Shenandoah Valley, by increasing enrollment and student access to training opportunities in welding. GO Virginia funds will be used to purchase additional training equipment and to hire and train new instructors. $300,000 2 The project will create a Center for Energy Research and Education (CERE) Industry Labs at Liberty University that is connected to local and regional economic development efforts. These labs will offer regional companies and institutions of higher education the facilities necessary to promote research and development as well as to foster the attraction and retention of the scientific and engineering workforce. $2,217,500 4 The project will advance the 1,600-acre certified mega-site in Greensville County to a Tier 4 mega-site. To date, the MAMAC RIFA, including Greensville and Mecklenburg counties and the city of Emporia, has made significant progress toward improving the site with water, electric and natural gas utilities, clearing land for pads and securing crucial right-of-way acreage to ensure utility access to the site. GO Virginia funds will complete engineering plans to upgrade the Greensville County Water and Sewer Authority s Water Treatment Plant to construct the gravity-fed sewer system to the site and to construct the wetlands mitigation bank. Upon completion of these two items, the site would be construction ready for a prospect within 12 months. $150,000 2 This project improves a 20-acre industrial parcel in the New River Valley Commerce Park in order to upgrade the site from Tier 4 to Tier 5 Business Steady Site Certification through Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP). The property will accommodate a 90,000 square foot manufacturing facility, which is currently the final Virginia site in consideration for an international manufacturing prospect. 3

4 Wood Haven Road Water And Sewer Infrastructure Enhancement Hampton Roads Unmanned Systems Park GWC Piedmont Technical Education Center $200,000 2 This project improves the site readiness and marketability of an industrial site near the intersection of Routes 81 and 581 that will accommodate a 52-acre pad and a 20-acre pad. The scope of the work includes the necessary water and sewer utility extensions and connections to prepare the site for development. $150,000 5 This project facilitates the initial steps needed to establish the Hampton Roads Regional Unmanned Systems (HRUSF) in York County. The new facility will provide an open area and infrastructure for use by public institutions, private companies and individuals, to develop, test, and demonstrate unmanned systems. $244,300 9 The proposed project will redevelop the former George Washington Carver High School into the state-of-the-art GWC Piedmont Technical Education Center to train machinists and welders. New Pathways Tech Inc. will operate the facility in partnership with Germanna Community College and the American Institute of Welding to train machinists and welders for the region s advanced manufacturing industry. ENHANCED CAPACITY BUILDING (ECB) Virginia Sea Grant $49,996 6 The proposed planning grant will identify the key gaps in the Virginia economic development ecosystem surrounding water technologies and coastal resiliency. The outcome of the project will provide an operational framework for a multi regional water management economy. Central Virginia Site $58,675 9 The proposed planning grant will advance a portfolio of eight sites targeted for light manufacturing to at least a Readiness Planning Tier 3 on the Virginia Business Readiness Scale through the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP). Central Virginia $100,000 9 The proposed planning grant will build capacity for the Central Virginia Cybersecurity Partnership, a collaborative Cybersecurity Partnership effort to create a talent development solution for Region 9 s cybersecurity industry. The overall goal of the project will be to establish a shared cybersecurity program for Piedmont Virginia, Lord Fairfax, and Germanna Community Colleges, who will each establish a primary area of instructional expertise and seek accreditation from the National Centers for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense. Capital Ecosystem $77,207 2 This enhanced capacity building project will include a two-year strategic planning process to assess weaknesses in Development the current capital landscape that inhibit entrepreneurship and the commercialization of regional research that would lead to greater economic prosperity in the region. Stopping The Brain Drain $65,300 2 This enhanced capacity building project will create a talent attraction and retention plan in order to help reduce Strategy Development outmigration of recent graduates from the region s 25 colleges and universities. GO Virginia funds will be used to identify the regions challenges through surveys, focus groups, and interviews, to produce an action plan for recruiting and retaining talent. Flexible Office Space Due $50,000 6 This enhanced capacity building project initiates the development of a 20,000 square foot flexible office space in Diligence the Town of Montross. The new facility will be one of the only office spaces of its size and quality in the Northern Neck to the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP). Pamunkeynet Business $50,000 6 This enhanced capacity building project assists with the design and implementation of a sustainable business Plan model for high-speed broadband delivery to underserved areas of the region. GO Virginia funds will be utilized for the development of a business plan and the creation of a new legal enterprise owned by the Pamunkey Tribe. 4

5 Southwest Virginia Technology Council Hublink $27,547 1 This capacity building grant will complete initial work on the SWVTC HubLink platform, an online jobs platform, where job-seekers will be able to access job and training opportunities in the technology industry. Prior to the build-out of the platform, SWVTC will solicit input from regional stakeholders, including workforce training providers, community colleges, private industry partners, student and job-seekers, etc. in order to determine the most valuable features for the online platform. Campus RVA $100,000 4 This capacity building grant will develop the CampusRVA initiative, which will serve as a marketplace, both on-line and off-line, for internships and job openings, to facilitate the matching of employers with potential employees. Based on the successful CampusPhilly model, CampusRVA will promote the capital region as an attractive place to live, work, and play, supporting the region s goal of retaining Virginia s recent college graduates. GO Virginia funds will be used to develop a comprehensive implementation plan, including a financial and operational model for the organization, a governance structure for the organization and their partners, and an outline of the technological infrastructure necessary to launch the on-line marketplace. CvilleBioHub $83,540 9 This planning grant will build capacity for CvilleBioHub, an organization that informs and connects the biotech and life sciences community and promotes the region as the center of the biotechnology industry. The overall goal for the project is to assess the current and projected regional capacity for the biotech industry, and create a strategic plan for driving innovation and growth for this cluster. In addition, the planning grant will plan for organizational sustainability and growth, through new revenue models and the formation of additional partnerships with regional institutions. 5
