1 The League of Arizona Cities & Towns presents: Grant Writing Boot Camp, a three-part half-day workshop series with Bev Browning. The serious grant seeker that attends these basic training sessions will leave with the knowledge that is necessary to successfully identify and utilize grant resources for programs in his or her community. Session I: Where's the Money? This workshop focuses on: Tracking grant monies using the Internet Utilizing publications like the Arizona Guide to Grants and Giving Understanding the Federal Grant Streamlining Program Identifying state and federal funding opportunities for cities and towns Session II: Raising Your Funding Success Rate with Formats & Words! This workshop provides knowledge of how to: Construct corporate letter requests Construct the Common Grant Application format developed by the National Network of Grantmakers Dissect state and federal grant applications to understand what the funder really wants Respond more competitively to grant opportunities Session III: Writing Solid Program Designs & Evaluation Plans The final workshop examines: What constitutes a successful program design Writing global short-term and long-term goals Developing measurable, time-bound outcome objectives The process of writing comprehensive qualitative and quantitative evaluation plans About Bev Browning Bev Browning is an Arizonabased grant writing consultant who brings over 14 years of experience in winning public and private funding requests for her clients. Bev has demonstrated expertise in securing foundation, corporate, state, local and federal grants for municipalities, state agencies and educational institutions as well as a variety of nonprofit organizations. Bev is the founder of Bev Browning & Associates and the author of a dozen grant-related publications including Getting Grants Funded in Your Community, How to Become a Grant Writing Consultant and Grantwriting for Dummies. She holds BA and MA degrees in Organizational Development and Public Administration and is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Phoenix in Arizona. Since 1986, Bev Browning & Associates has helped to raise more than $50,000,000 in grant awards. Cost The cost for each individual session is $55. 4 Emergency Preparedness Crisis Communications Workshop Thursday, February 28, 2002, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Do you have a crisis communications plan in case of a natural or man-made emergency? Is your plan up-to-date? Does your plan address different levels of emergency? Do you know where your city, town or county is vulnerable in case of an emergency? Do you want to know how to identify key external players and the roles that they will play in relation to your plan? Join the League of Arizona Cities and Towns for a full-day workshop designed to help you answer these challenging questions and more. WORKSHOP OVERVIEW This workshop is designed to further acquaint elected officials, public information officers and staff at all levels of local government with emergency preparedness crisis communication concepts. Our facilitator, Carole Gorney, a tenured professor with the Department of Journalism and Communications at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America, will lead us through a series of exercises including: Crisis Vulnerability Identification Assessment of Potential Crises Classification of Crises by Levels of Severity Identification of Key External Players Keeping your Plan Updated Our keynote luncheon speaker, Rosemary Pryor, is the Director of Marketing and Planning for McKenzie-Willamette Hospital and the former Communications and Intergovernmental Affairs Director for the City of Springfield, Oregon. She experienced a crisis communications challenge during the Thurston School shooting in The 57-minute school shooting became a three-week media event watched around the world, culminating with a first-ever visit by the President of the United States. She will share her lessons learned with us. In the afternoon session, Carole will help us identify areas where our crisis communication plans intersect with neighboring cities and towns, so that we are better prepared to communicate in an emergency.
