2 CIVIC ENGAGEMENT LEND A HAND AT FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY BOOKSTORE FRIENDS BOOKSTORE Do you love reading and have knowledge of a variety of book categories? Are you a selfstarter who can work independently without supervision? If so, and you'd like to volunteer, please request an application to be a volunteer for the St. Cloud Friends of the Library Bookstore. They currently have a few openings for regular every-other-week volunteering as a clerk in the bookstore, primarily on Wednesdays and Fridays. The position requires good judgement, good people skills, and ability to handle money and make change. We also have a need for a volunteer to sort books into various categories, make decisions about book pricing, move carts of books, and shelve books. Training is provided for each position, but once trained, volunteers generally work alone and need to be capable of good decision making. Contact Marcia, Friends Bookstore at marciakgarden@gmail.com and request an application. Volunteers are matched with seniors in their community and provide weekly companionship, transportation to appointments and activities, or just an opportunity to share a meal. Volunteers are eligible for a monthly or hourly stipend and mileage reimbursements. 7 The Minnesota Campus Compact Presidents Awards provide an opportunity for member presidents and chancellors to give statewide recognition to effective leaders in the development of campus-community partnerships. Acknowledgment of outstanding collaborative work not only informs and inspires others efforts, but also encourages greater support for higher education s civic engagement initiatives. Each president or chancellor from a Minnesota Campus Compact member institution may recognize one honoree in each of the following three award categories: Presidents Student Leadership Award This award is for an individual student or a student organization that models a deep commitment to civic responsibility and leadership, evidenced by initiative, innovative and collaborative approaches to addressing public issues, effective community building, and integration of civic engagement into the college experience. Presidents Civic Engagement Steward Award This award is for a member of the faculty, administration, or staff or for a group (e.g., advisory committee, task force, project team) that has significantly advanced their campus distinctive civic mission by forming strong partnerships, supporting others civic engagement, and working to institutionalize a culture and practice of engagement. Presidents Community Partner Award This award is for a community-based organization that has enhanced the quality of life in the community in meaningful and measurable ways and has engaged in the development of sustained, reciprocal partnerships with the college or university, thus enriching educational as well as community outcomes. Honorees and presidents will celebrate the nature and results of this exemplary work at an awards ceremony and luncheon during Minnesota Campus Compact s Annual Summit to be held April 10, 2019 at St. Catherine University in St. Paul. Award winners will receive a certificate and recognition in the event program, and the photo and brief profile provided will be displayed on the event PowerPoint, then posted on MNCC s website. Recipients will also be invited to participate throughout the Summit and to consider sharing a brief This I Believe statement during the awards ceremony.

8 While we encourage presidents and chancellors to include both campus- and communitybased civic engagement leaders in selecting award recipients based on the criteria above, the specific process used to identify honorees is determined by the individual campus. The ways campuses selected award recipients in previous years have included: the president issuing an open call for nominations on campus, with a committee selecting recipients; a civic engagement committee recommending finalists to the President, who selected the recipients; and the president choosing to recognize previous campus-award winners. We encourage campuses to select a recipient in each of the three award categories, but a campus may instead choose to select an honoree in only one or two of the categories. Every person/group selected by a member institution will be recognized at the Summit (unless more than one nomination is submitted in a single award category). When award recipients have been selected, please fill out and submit the Presidents Awards Selection Form available at mncampuscompact.org/what-we-do/campuscompact-awards/minnesota-campus-compact-awards/ no later than February 22, 2019 including: 1. Campus name 2. Designated contact person for the Presidents Awards process at that campus 3. Each award recipient s name and contact information Brief (50 words or less) description of the reasons that person, group, or organization was selected for this recognition Photograph of each recipient (attach in the Selection Form at time of submitting the form) Minnesota Campus Compact will send all Presidents Award recipients a congratulatory message and an invitation to the April 10, 2019 Summit and Awards Luncheon as campuses submit their selected honorees. With any questions, please contact Sinda Nichols at sinda@mncampuscompact.org. Minnesota Campus Compact 2211 Riverside Ave S, Minneapolis, MN
