SATURDAY 23RD MARCH 2019 The National Car Club Awards celebrate, recognise and honour the achievements of the nation s car clubs; the enthusiastic people who run them and the remarkable cars they preserve and cherish. Presented in association with Tourism Ireland, supported by Classic Car Weekly and endorsed by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs. NOMINATIONS ARE NOW OPEN

2 A WORD FROM THE JUDGES Lee Masters, Show Director & Chairman of the judging panel The judges have been overwhelmed and enthused by the increasing popularity of the National Car Club Awards since their inception in The variety of clubs and the number of nominations grows each year. For a car club to be shortlisted for a National Car Club Award is a great achievement in its own right and we are truly tested in deciding the outcome of these awards. We have produced this guide to help and encourage you to make a nomination if your club, secretariat or member has achieved something extraordinary during We look forward to honouring your achievements. So many clubs undertake inspiring activities which surprise and delight each year, it is a joy and a challenge to help select the winners. Please make every effort with your nomination to present your achievements in a befitting manner to secure the recognition you deserve. Follow the guidance given herein to give your club the best chance at winning one of these converted awards! The army of clubs and volunteers who get up early and stay up late to publicise, scrutinise and organise the classic year. They do it because they love their cars and they deserve a decent night out as a small thank you. The National Car Club Awards evening is it. Their hard-working experts are the key to keeping the cars we all love on the road and in the public eye. 3 WHERE? WHEN? WHAT? Club nominations are accepted online until Wednesday 23rd January 2019, with shortlisted clubs in each category being announced mid-february. Two representatives from each shortlisted club will be invited, as our guests, to attend the National Car Club Awards Dinner on Saturday 23rd March 2019, taking place alongside the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show, with Discovery at the NEC Birmingham. Enjoy a drinks reception and three-course dinner with fellow club officials, the perfect opportunity for celebrating, networking and sharing ideas. Then join in the celebrations as award winners are revealed by our celebrity host! Tickets for the evening will be on sale from just 69. Visit for details. NOMINATION ADVICE: 18 awards will be presented at the National Car Club Awards Dinner, 11 of which are open for public nomination: seven in the Classic Car Club category and four in the Devoted Member category. There is an award for every aspect of your club. Read the following judging criteria to decide which is most relevant for your club s achievement or club personality that you feel deserves recognition this year. Please do not nominate the same activity or person in more than one category. Nominations must be submitted online. We have a structured nomination process to assists the judges in their deliberations and several open questions with limited word-counts are asked within each. We recommend you download the relevant award s questions from the website and prepare your responses in advance. If your club has an editor, PR representative or word-smith, they may be best placed to compose your nomination. Anyone is welcome to complete a nomination but they will be asked to confirm they have gained authorisation from a relevant club official. This is to ensure your secretariat is aware of all your club s nominations to avoid duplication. To give yourself the best chance of success, please take time, care and attention to ensure that your nominations reflect the value of your club s achievements or club personality. 4 CLASSIC CAR CLUB CATEGORY These seven awards celebrate the activities and achievements of car clubs. National Car Club of the Year This award will be given to the UK s top car club who has demonstrated outstanding member initiatives and engagement over the last year. These initiatives may include, but not be limited to: new club developments leading to a dramatic growth in membership new or improved efforts to help preserve or promote their cars new or improved member communication and education opportunities amazing events, runs or rallies or charitable activities. Has your club had an outstanding year? Tell us what you have been doing and why 2018 was exceptional for your club! Judges will be looking for specific examples to illustrate the wide variety of initiatives and engagements offered by your club to its members NCCA winner: TR Register Outstanding Club Magazine of the Year (printed) This award will be given to the car club whose printed magazine demonstrates innovation & creativity, as well as increases in circulation, readership and exemplary editorial quality during the last 12 months. Have you had a re-design, started a new feature or improved your magazine s content? Are members commenting how they look forward to reading its enjoyable and informative features? If you are proud of your magazine, we d love to see it! You will need to provide four copies published within 2018 along with a completed nomination NCCA winner: SIXappeal Triumph 2000, 2500, 2.5 Register Outstanding Online Presence by a Car Club (including social media, website & other online presence) This award will be given to a car club demonstrating an outstanding online presence in terms of website design, functionality, imagery & content. Along with active engagement with members and non-members be that through Facebook, Twitter or forums, using clever hashtags or trending, they will demonstrate the opportunities and benefits of communicating online - all major platforms are eligible. Do you provide accessible information and services online? Has your members engagement improved? Have you undertaken online activities to increase your profile & membership? Provide links to examples showing how your club has improved members online experience, and how your club reaches out online to potential new members NCCA winner: Lotus Drivers Club

5 Best Car Club Contribution to Charity This award will be presented to a car club or individual club member who has demonstrated outstanding charitable achievements during the past year. We all admire and support people and organisations who go out of their way to fundraise and support charitable aims. The Judges are looking to be inspired by your contribution to charity. Have you been involved in raising a significant sum for charity during the last 12 months, take this opportunity to let the car club community celebrate your efforts. We look forward to hearing what motivated your club and members to fundraise, details of activities undertaken and amount raised NCCA winner: Jaguar Enthusiasts Club Outstanding Club Initiative to Encourage the Next Generation This award will be given to the car club whose initiative to recruit or support the next generation of classic car club members is an inspiration. Judges are looking to highlight the best club practices to: attract new younger people to join up; encourage existing younger members to become more engaged with club activities; or develop, educated and support young enthusiasts to treasure the UK s automotive heritage into the future. This could encompass any activity which reaches out to engage with younger members or enthusiasts. From training or driving opportunities, to events or groups created for younger folk, or digital apps for their smart phones, the possibilities are endless. We look forward to hearing how your club has been encouraging the next generation to do more in the last 12 months NCCA winner: National Street Rod Association Outstanding Car Club Single Venue Event or Show This award will be given to the car club that has organised a truly great event or show which took place at a single venue. The Judges will be looking for innovation with the venue, its purpose, participation, achieved objectives/social initiatives, member support and overall organisation. Organising an annual get-together takes a lot of work, but did you achieve something extraordinary last summer? Did the number of cars attending break a record? Were you celebrating a big anniversary? Did you improve facilities or attractions? If your event will be remembered for a long time, tell us all about it and what made it so memorable NCCA winner: Roverfest 2017 Rover Sports Register & the Joint Rover Clubs Outstanding Car Club Run, Rally or Tour This award will be given to the car club that has organised an exceptional run, rally or tour which took place across multiple venues or route. The Judges will be looking for innovation in the theme, the route, its purpose, participation, achieved objectives/ social initiatives, member support and overall organisation. Getting out and about in their cherished cars is what members like best! Where has your club been driving off to recently? If you are still blown away by a fantastic run, rally or tour arranged for club members, tell us! You will be asked to provide details about where you went and what made it so special NCCA winner: 10 Countries Run 2017 Club Triumph

6 DEVOTED MEMBER CATEGORY These four awards celebrate the people in your club who make it a success. National Car Club Unsung Hero of the Year This award will be given to the individual who does a huge amount of work for their club, often in the background or behind the scenes. This person is a rock for the club and whose thankless energy is essential to the club s day-to-day workings NCCA winner: Matt Ollman Rootes Archive Centre Trust National Car Club Ambassador of the Year This award will be given to the individual who is truly a great ambassador for their club. They are always extolling the virtues of the club, its benefits and community with a smile not to mention the marques and models. Having spoken to this person, you come away feeling enthused, reassured and compelled to get involved NCCA winner: Nigel Thorley Jaguar Enthusiasts Club National Car Club Young Member of the Year This award will be given to the youngster who has demonstrated that they are a truly valued member of their club through their contributions, energy and enthusiasm that they have brought to the club in any function NCCA winner: Ben Hatton MGCC FWD Register National Car Club Lifetime Achievement This award will be presented to an individual who has made a significant and sustained contribution to their club and the classic car movement over many decades. This award recognises a lifetime of enthusiastic and devoted commitment by someone who has dedicated themselves to the betterment of their club, its members and cars NCCA winner: Drummond Black Jowett Car Club

7 AT SHOW AWARDS Six awards will be presented to clubs displaying at the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show, with Discovery Judging for these will take place during the show - no need to submit a nomination to be considered, but we encourage you to take these judging criteria into consideration when planning your display. Best Club Display at Show: Small Stand Large Stand These awards will be given for the most welcoming stands which encourage visitors to take a closer look at an attractive and eye-catching vehicle display. Judges will be looking for an open, accessible and stylish presentation with clear and compelling messaging. A well-presented restoration or maintenance demonstration or display, and stand staff actively engaging visitors in conversation or interactive activity NCCA Small Stand winner: The Land Rover Series 2 Club 2018 NCCA Large Stand winner: The International Club for Rolls-Royce & Bentley Enthusiasts Best Live Working on Vehicles at Show Judges will be observing the difficulty and scale of live work being undertaken on vehicles within the exhibition, the variety of skills on display and how successful the club is at engaging and educating visitors NCCA winner: Jowett Car Club Best Live Demonstration on a Club Stand at Show Judges will be looking for the best presentation of a smaller scale skill, restoration or maintenance technique offering successful visitor interaction and education NCCA winner: Porsche 924 Owners Club Best Restored Car at Show Judges will be looking for an outstanding example of workmanship and authenticity presented alongside its restoration story showing before and after achievement NCCA winner: Chris Boffey s 1973 Saab 96 Saab Owners Club GB Best Car at Show The Judges will be looking out for the most inspiring example at the show. Which will catch their eye? 2018 NCCA winner: Geoff Norgrove s 1906 Rover 8hp Stourbridge Pre War Car Club JUDGES SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD Selected entirely at the Judges discretion, this special award will recognise a club, individual or initiative of significance within the classic car community NCCA winner: Sir Stirling Moss
