As we get ready to start the H year, please know that the Burnet County Extension Office is here for you if you need help with enrollment, project selection, club management, project development or anything else you may need throughout the year. Please do not hesitate to contact us by phone or . We are happy to help! Meat Pen Orders Due September 2 Sign up for REMIND!!! If you are planning to show meat rabbits at the Burnet County Livestock Show and need to order pens of rabbits through the Extension office, you need to place your order and pay for rabbits by Friday, September 2, A pen of rabbits consist of 4 rabbits. The cost of the rabbits will $ per pen. October 4 Burnet County Awards Banquet October 6 Club Food and Nutrition Practice Burnet County 4-H is going to participate in REMIND!! There is a flyer on the very back of this newsletter with the instructions on how to set up your account. It is super easy, just send a simple text message. If you are having trouble with option A, just try option B. We will try to get a weekly reminder out about what is going on in 4-H THAT week! You can sign up at any time. Reminders will start next week!

Applications for any of the Burnet County 4-H Awards that will be recognized at the Burnet County Awards Banquet need to be submitted by Tuesday, September 6, For the Bronze, Silver and Gold Pin Awards, members will need to submit the Achievement Points List. For Outstanding Club Award, Club Managers will need to submit an essay on the application form explaining their club and why that club should get the Outstanding Club Award. For the Gold Star Award, applicants need to have those completed by September 6, 2016 as well. October 27 Club Food and Nutrition Practice November 3 Club Food and Nutrition Practice November 7 Stock show Sign up Night November 8 District 7 Food and Nutrition Quiz Bowl November 17 District 7 Food Show Food and Nutrition Leader/Member Training September 8 Leaders and members who are interested in exploring the fun and educational options about the Food and Nutrition Project or just wanting to expand on their project knowledge in Food and Nutrition are invited to participate in the Food and Nutrition Leader and Member Training on September 8, The training will be held at the Burnet County Extension Office at 6:00 p.m. If you are already coming, invite a friend to have fun with food!!

3 4-H News and Notes Kids Day Out September 10, 2016 Important Dates Page 3 Kids Day Out is a GREAT way to spread the word about 4-H, the fun we have, the friends we make and facts we learn! We will have water conservation activities, water hydration information, ice cream in a bag nutrition lesson and of coarse, information for prospective members to learn all about Burnet County 4-H! With all of these fun activities planned, there is an opportunity for you to help! We need volunteers to help us with these activities. Kids Day Out will start at 9 a.m., but we will need help starting at 8:00 a.m. for set up. We should be finished and cleaning up around 3:30 p.m. We have decided that if a 4-H member helps us at Kids Day Out and turns in an Achievement Points List, we will add 5 (FIVE) points to the Achievement Points list for your service!!! The catch.you must sign in and you must work!!! Please consider helping and volunteering even if you can t help for the day, part of the day would be MUCH appreciated!! November 19 District 7 Cattle, Sheep and Goat Clinic November 21 Swine Validation November 29 County Council Meeting/Adult Leaders Meeting November 30 District 7 Livestock Judging December 2 Commissioners Court Interpretation Luncheon Project Showcase Citizenship December 3 District 7 Swine Clinic This project is really what you make it! You can choose to do a short or long project, but many 4-H members do citizenship activities throughout their 4-H career by participating in One Day 4-H, National 4-H Week, serving on local community government or with other community organizations. Make it what you want it to be! Activities you can do through the Citizenship project are: Talk to Commissioners Court about 4-H in Burnet County, attend 4-H Day at the Capitol, and attend Texas 4-H Congress. Consider adding citizenship to the projects you already do, there is an endless amount of information that learned and obtained through this project.

4 4-H Food and Nutrition Contest Workshop September 22 Are you a little on the competitive side? Do you like a good Challenge? Do you know food? Then the foods and nutrition contest are for you!!! The Foods and Nutrition project has so many fun and exciting contest opportunities that at part of the project. The Food Show, Food and Nutrition Quiz Bowl and the Food Challenge are all part of the Food and Nutrition project and offer great contest and there is usually food at the contest.join us at the 4-H Foods and Nutrition Contest Workshop on Thursday September 22, 2016 at the Extension Office from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Broilers for Burnet County Livestock Show Order Due September 30 If you are wanting to show broilers for the 2017 Burnet County Livestock Show, you need to order and pay for your birds before September 30, The minimum order is 25 and the order must come in increments of 25. The price per bird is $1.74. They will be picked up on November 22, 2016, so please have your facilities ready! Broilers for San Antonio, Houston and Austin Orders are due on October 11, 2016 If you are planning to show BROILERS at San Antonio, Houston or Austin, you must place your order with the Extension office and pay for your order by Tuesday, October 11, The pick up date has not been set!

5 Burnet County 4-H Banquet will be October 4, 2016!! The Burnet County 4-H Banquet will be held on Tuesday, October 4, The banquet is put on every year to recognize the hard work and dedication of the 4-H members and volunteers throughout the year. We have so much to celebrate this year! Please make arrangements to come and participate. We will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Burnet County Fair Barn. ONE DAY 4-H!!! One day 4-H is an opportunity for 4-H members to come together and give back by participating in a club, or county wide community service! Earlier this month, the state of Louisiana was devastated by flooding. Louisiana 4-H has requested for 4-H members and clubs across the south to help out in the collection of school supplies for kids going back to school in Louisiana. Many youth are starting the school year out without basic necessities. WE CAN HELP!!! Burnet County 4-H Clubs can collect basic school supplies from now until the Banquet on October 4, Club representatives can bring supplies by the office, individuals can bring supplies by the office and we can do a collection at the Banquet. The office will ship the supplies to Louisiana on October 5, Attached to the end of this newsletter is a flyer!

6 4-H Connect and Enrollment for Please know that 4-H Connect will be down for maintenance on August 11, 12, 13 and 14. Enrollment for the H Year will begin on August 15, 2016! Please get enrolled as fast as possible so that you are able to participate in any upcoming events. The price for enrolling August 15, 2016 through October 31, 2016 will be $ If you wait to enroll after October 31, 2015 the price will go to $ Adults Please be sure to enroll on 4-H Connect as well. Enrolling as an adult leader ensures that your talents are able to be used as a volunteer. Our volunteers work so hard to keep this program going and we need as many as possible! Quality Counts for 2017 Shows If you are planning to exhibit an animal at a major show in Texas (State Fair, Ft. Worth, San Antonio, San Angelo, Houston, Austin) you need to have completed the Quality Counts Training. Exhibitors only need to be verified once as a junior and once again as a senior. Junior is 8 and in the 3rd grade through 13 years of age as of the previous August 31st. Senior is 14 years or older as of the previous August 31st. If you are changing age categories (going from a Junior to a Senior), you will need to retake the Quality Counts verification. Please call the Extension office if you have any questions.
