3 2019 HIA Australian GreenSmart Awards HIA Australian GreenSmart Awards recognise the diligent efforts of environmentally-aware residential builders, designers and manufacturers. The Awards recognise those who build or design environmentally-friendly homes, provide solutions to make homes more efficient or create new products for the building industry. Award winners and finalists are making a positive difference to the environment. Leading by example, they are inspiring other HIA members to build sustainable, energy efficient and comfortable homes for their clients. HIA Australian GreenSmart Awards are open only to HIA members. SUBMITTING YOUR ENTRY Entries are to be submitted online. Upload your entry at greensmart.com.au/awards. Refer to pages 9-11 for information you need to include in your submission. JUDGING CRITERIA To assist in completing your entry, detailed judging criteria can be downloaded for each category from greensmart.com.au/awards JUDGING Onsite inspections will not be undertaken. Therefore it is important that your submission provides the judges with all the details they require to make their decision. It is important to submit professional quality photography focusing on the details relevant to the category entered. Your written submission must address all the judging criteria. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY Conditions of entry on page 14 and 15 of this booklet are strictly adhered to. CLOSE OF ENTRY All entries must be lodged online by 5pm, Friday 14 June Please note that no late entries will be accepted. ENTRY FEES Entry into the HIA Australian GreenSmart Awards is $220 per entry. ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS Winners of the 2019 HIA Australian GreenSmart Awards will be announced on 10 September To view the 2018 GreenSmart Award winners video, visit greensmart.com.au/awards Entrants will be notified if they are successful as a finalist prior to the announcement of winners. Each winner will be acknowledged in a winners video with judges comments and images of the project. 5 Categories PRODUCT This award recognises a product that is integral to the construction or operation of a home that can either: reduce operational water or energy use in the home; or provide healthy living environments for occupants; or contain recycled content from waste material or sourced from renewable materials. Your entry must describe your company s role in the manufacturing of this product and bringing the product to market. If you do not manufacture the product, but are a distributor, you need written consent from the manufacturer stating they agree to you submitting the product in the HIA-Lawn Solutions Australian GreenSmart Awards. In this instance the manufacturer will not be a joint entrant unless stated in the joint entrant field on the entry. All entrants must be HIA members. If you are a distributor of the product you will need to advise what form your distribution rights take eg sole distributor. The product must have been placed on the Australian market within the 24 months prior to the closing date of entries. Please see entry requirements on page 10 of this booklet. Judging Criteria Specified and proven environmental benefits Innovation and new technology Cost effectiveness Standard of finish / presentation Origins of product manufacture Promotion PROFESSIONAL This award will be presented to the HIA GreenSmart Professional who best demonstrates the successful application of the HIA GreenSmart approach in a residential building and design capacity within the industry. Submissions should include relevant business documentation and specific examples of how HIA GreenSmart principles have been put into practice. The HIA GreenSmart Professional must have completed the two day HIA GreenSmart Professional course. Please see further details and entry questions on pages 11, 12 and 13 of this booklet. 6 Categories Environmentally-friendly homes offer practical, sustainable and healthier living options for homeowners now and in the future. Homes entered into the HIA Australian GreenSmart Awards aim to lower running costs for users, reduce greenhouse emissions, reduce water and energy consumption, avoid use of non-renewable materials and provide an increased level of comfort in the home. CUSTOM BUILT HOME An individual house, which has been uniquely designed and built on contract specifically for the site and according to the requirements and brief of a client. Where the home is built for staff, friends, a family member or is the builder s own home, the contract price must represent the complete cost to build an identical home (including builders margins), which is the price offered to the home buying public. DISPLAY/PROJECT HOME An individual house currently on display to the public and intended for reproduction as displayed or with standard variations to suit the client s needs. A project home is an individual house based on a display home or sales brochure for a repeatable design, which has been tailored to suit the needs of the client and the site. This includes manufactured homes formed of pre-built major elements and then assembled on site. Display homes must be open for display within a 24 month period prior to and including the close of entries date, and at the time of judging. MULTI DWELLING DEVELOPMENT This award recognises multiple dwelling residential projects. These projects typically include developments known as dual occupancy (two dwellings on a single allotment), villas (one storey), townhouses (two-three storey) and terrace housing, whether attached or detached, as well as residential apartment buildings of two or more storeys, not including car parking, and containing at least two self-contained dwellings. These projects must be classified as Class 1a, 2 or 3 buildings under the Building Code of Australia. RENOVATION/ADDITION PROJECT An extension or renovation involving structural building work to an existing individual house or other residential building. To renovate and upgrade a group of apartments, villas, townhouses, etc or to convert a non-residential building into a residential building. Builders entering this category must be responsible for the total renovation. NOTE: A project cannot be entered into more than one category of either Display/Project Home or Custom Built Home. Please select the category that best suits the project. Judging Criteria The above housing project categories are judged on environmental design, features and construction methods, innovation, visual appeal, liveability and cost effectiveness. 7 SUSTAINABLE HOME This award is presented to the housing project (single or multi dwelling) that best incorporates cost-effective environmental performance and operational principles to its design and construction. To nominate a project in this category, you are required to nominate through the Sustainable Home category in your regional Housing Awards. Each regional Sustainable Home winner will progress as a finalist in the Sustainable Home category at the Australian GreenSmart Awards. For your regional Housing Awards Entry Form, contact your local Events team on , or visit hia.com.au/awards RESIDENTIAL LAND DEVELOPMENT This award recognises residential land development/ subdivisions. The development must demonstrate minimal environmental impact as well as environmental, social and economic gains through its design, construction and development and will ideally create more than twenty lots. Judging Criteria Projects will be judged based on environmental design, features and planning (subdivision); environmental design, features and construction (dwellings); management of civil works; liveability and visual appeal. ENERGY EFFICIENCY This award recognises a housing project (single or multi dwelling) that best incorporates cost effective energy efficient design and operational principles. The house should demonstrate a high level of yearround climate control with minimal artificial heating or cooling. Judging Criteria Projects will be judged according to passive solar design features, energy rating, energy saving materials and fittings, liveability and innovation. HIA AUSTRALIAN GREENSMART HOME The winner of the coveted HIA Australian GreenSmart Home is chosen from the winners of the following categories: Custom Built Home Display / Project Home Renovation / Addition Project Sustainable Home 2019 HIA AUSTRALIAN GREENSMART AWARDS 7

9 Entry Checklist Housing Projects All housing entries must collate and upload the following items: Label your files with your company name and item uploaded, for example, Joe B Homes_Contract Project details Includes date of completion, owner details, value of site works, final cost and sqm of project. 60-word promotional description Written Submission Your written submission forms an integral part of your entry. It is your opportunity to explain the features, benefits and HIA GreenSmart principles that you have incorporated into the home. Your written submission must address the following: 1. Each of the judging criteria for the category entered. Judging criteria can be downloaded from greensmart.com.au/awards 2. Evidence of HIA GreenSmart principles incorporated in the housing project and their estimated costs 3. Benefits derived from implementing HIA GreenSmart principles in the design, construction and promotion of the project 4. Evidence of site conditions and site management practices undertaken before, during and after works. Can be uploaded as word doc or pdf. Stamped Approved Plans Plans should indicate the particular HIA GreenSmart practices included in the design or building. All plans must show North point. Renovation / Adddition must include plans showing old and new work. Plans to be uploaded are limited to: 1. Floor Plan 2. Site Plan 3. Elevations Energy rating assessment For example, energy rating certificate, basix certificate or deemed to satisfy assessment report. Certificate of Occupancy or equivalent Completion Certificate Project Price Copy of the page of the contract that states the price with the client s signature. Include a summary of variations with client signature where appropriate. Include any works by owner or others (if applicable) to give the complete cost of the project. Display home category only supply sales brochure and price list. List of Materials Description of internal and external materials; including manufacturer, colours and special features. High Resolution Photographs Upload 8-10 images showing standout features and environmentally-friendly aspects relevant to the category entered. Photos must be high resolution, landscape oriented and a minimum 300dpi in jpg or tiff format. Renovation / Addition must include four before photos. Images are used to promote winners and finalists. Professional quality images should be provided at time of entry. Declaration You are asked to tick a box declaring, among other things, you have the owner s consent to enter the project. Entry Fee An entry fee of $220 per entry must be paid at the time of submitting your entry. The online entry system allows entries to be duplicated and entered into additional categories where the project meets the requirements. 10 Entry Checklist HIA GreenSmart Product All HIA GreenSmart Product entries must collate and upload the following items: Product details Includes date product placed on Australian market. Written Submission Your written submission forms an integral part of your entry. It must address the following criteria: Reference to each of the judging criteria. Judging criteria can be downloaded from greensmart.com.au/awards Material Data Sheets outlining the environmental credentials of any product components An outline of the relevance of the product to the residential building industry A description of your company s role in the manufacturing of this product and bringing the product to market. What form your distribution rights take eg. sole distributor. The estimated market cost and any potential for export. Can be uploaded as word doc or pdf. Provide evidence Supporting claims that the product is recognised as Australian Made where these claims are made. That the product can deliver energy, water or resource efficiency in its operation over traditional products. Of the product placement on the market within 24 months prior to the closing date of entries. High Resolution Photographs Upload up to ten (10) images of the product. Photos must be high resolution, landscape oriented and a minimum 300dpi in jpg or tiff format. Images are used to promote winners and finalists. Professional quality images should be provided at time of entry. Written Consent from the Manufacturer, if applicable If you are a distributor entering the product without the manufacturer as a joint entrant. 11 Entry Checklist HIA GreenSmart Professional All HIA GreenSmart Professional entrants must collate and upload the following items: Applicant details Includes date of HIA GreenSmart Professional course attendance Written Submission Your written submission forms an integral part of your entry. It must address the HIA GreenSmart Professional entry questions on page 12 and 13. Can be uploaded as word doc or pdf. Stamped Approved Plans Plans should indicate the particular HIA GreenSmart practices included in the design or building of a project undertaken by the HIA GreenSmart Professional and referenced in the written submission. All plans must show North point. Plans to be uploaded are limited to: Floor Plan Site Plan Elevations High Resolution Photographs Upload 1-2 images of the applicant (landscape orientation), preferably on a building site. Upload images of projects relevant to the applicant. Photos must be high resolution, landscape oriented and a minimum 300dpi in jpg or tiff format. Images are used to promote winners and finalists. 12 HIA GreenSmart Professional Entry Questions Submissions for the HIA GreenSmart Professional award need to address the judging criteria. The following questions are provided as a guide to assist applicants in preparing sufficient information to support the entry. A written submission, supported by photos, plans, brochures, and other useful information, should be provided to allow the judges to understand the entrant s views, knowledge, experience and passion for sustainable residential building. 1 Approach to Sustainable Residential Design, Building or Professional Service 1.1 Outline your individual philosophy on environmentally responsible building and how this has influenced the direction of your business Consider: What environmental features are of most importance to you and why? What environmental features have you been incorporating into your housing projects and why? 1.2 Demonstrate how you create and promote improved outcomes for sustainable housing Consider: Have you created or lead change in the housing industry? Have you worked with like-minded builders, designers, contractors, product manufacturers and suppliers, customers, apprentices, service providers to achieve sustainable outcomes in residential building? Have you worked with customers to achieve an improved environmental outcome for their project? How do you measure your success in promoting change? 1.3 Demonstrate how you are expanding your knowledge and keeping up-to-date with changing trends Consider: Where do you obtain your knowledge from? Web, product manufacturers, further training. Do you install new products in your housing projects and review their proposed benefits? 2 Application of HIA GreenSmart Principles 2.1 Provide current evidence of building the HIA GreenSmart way or providing a service that incorporates HIA GreenSmart principles in the residential building industry Consider: What HIA GreenSmart principles have you applied in a recent housing project and why? Do you seek to incorporate HIA GreenSmart management practices in all projects? If not, what are the constraints? What innovative projects have you been involved with? How do you try to learn from these projects? HIA AUSTRALIAN GREENSMART AWARDS
13 3 Incorporation of sustainable practices into your business 3.1 Outline how environmental issues have been incorporated by you into the planning and decision making processes for your business operations Consider: Have you introduced systems into the business operations to improve its environmental performance? e.g. Consideration in your estimating and/ or purchasing system for your business operations where decisions are based on environmental features? 4 Innovation and Promotion 4.1 Outline how you communicate your business philosophy to customers Consider: Do you promote yourself as a HIA GreenSmart Professional in marketing material? Have you developed any public presentations, publications, or website information? Do you promote your business as providing a point of differentiation from others? 4.2 List the principles, practices or products that you see yourself using in the future to build the HIA GreenSmart way and why Consider: What is a product, technique, system or service that you see yourself using/ incorporating in the next 12 months? Why? Are you planning to grow your business with respect to promoting environmentally responsible housing? If so what is the focus? 4.3 How do you see the housing industry continuing to adapt to a changing environment? Consider: Do you believe there will continue to be changes in the way we build houses in the next two years and what could this include? e.g. house size, material use, choice of material based on life cycle assessment and construction methods, carbon offsetting of house construction, adaptable, modular or smart housing HIA AUSTRALIAN GREENSMART AWARDS 13
14 Conditions Of Entry All entrants must comply with these conditions of entry ENTRANT AND PROJECT ELIGIBILITY 1. a. Entrants must be financial members of the Housing Industry Association Ltd (HIA) at the time of entry until the completion of the awards program. b. Entrants must be appropriately licensed or registered to carry out the project entered (as required by law) at the commencement and completion of the project. Building licence or registration is not required for Greensmart Product. c. Entrants warrant that each project entered complies with relevant with relevant legislative and statutory requirements. 2. a. The entry must be the work of the entrant and properly attributable to them. For example, where an entrant is entering as the Builder of a project, they must be the builder on the record for that project, that is, the person named as builder in the building contract, inspection reports and home owners warranty certificate. Where there is more than one person who fits that description (for example where an owner builder permit was taken out, but the owner subcontracted part of the project to a licensed builder) the builder will be the person who performed the majority of the actual building work on the finished project. Where the contracted scope of works does not include all the building work for the project entered and other building work has been performed by others directly engaged by the home owner, this work should be identified on the entry form. Where the project was built by a partnership, all partners should be named as entrants unless they have given their written prior consent to a different arrangement. Where the project was built by a company, the company must give their prior written consent if the entry is in the name of an individual Director or other person. The entrant should provide supporting details of this in such cases. The same rule applies to Architects, Designers, Developers etc. b. Builder and Architect/Designer/Council/Developer joint entries are acceptable provided they are all members of the Association. c. An individual entry by the product distributor into the HIA GreenSmart Product category will only be permitted with the written consent of the manufacturer. 3. Homes entered must be residential dwellings, with the exception of the Professional and Product categories. 4. Housing entries must have reached practical completion within the twenty four months prior to the final closing date of entries. 5. Product entries must been placed on the market within the twenty four months prior to the final closing date of entries. 6. Previous award winning projects are ineligible to be re-entered into the same category. 7. If the project was built for staff, a family member etc, the final contract price must represent a repeatable production price for the home. TERMS OF ENTRY 8. Multiple entries - If the same home is entered in more than one category (where allowable), the entrant must separately complete and submit an online entry for each category entered together with a set of plans and photos. An additional entry fee is payable. 9. Entrants will not be entitled to a refund for entries withdrawn after the closing date. 10. Entries deemed ineligible are not entitled to a refund 11. All applicable sections of the entry form must be completed. 12. If the project is entered into a category for which it does not qualify, HIA reserves the right to move the project to an appropriate category, without prior consent from the entrant. 13. HIA reserves the right to amalgamate categories to best represent the industry if deemed appropriate. 14. Judges reserve the right to decline to present an Award in a particular category if a minimum standard of excellence has not been reached. 15. The judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. 16. Neither HIA nor the judges will be required to provide entrants with feedback or a critique in relation to their entry or provide any reasons for their decision. 17. Entrants acknowledge that HIA takes no responsibility for the quality of photos and plan produced nor any editorial discrepancies attached to any photo or plan. 18. HIA in its sole discretion may give, during or after the judging and/ or conferral of the award, a comparable award, commendation or otherwise recognise any other entity (being a financial member of the Housing Industry) HIA considers contributed or collaborated to a material extent in the construction, design or delivery of the project being judged HIA AUSTRALIAN GREENSMART AWARDS
15 PUBLICITY & WARRANTIES 19. The entrant: a. warrants that the details of its entry are correct in every respect; b. warrants that the entry has the client s consent; c. warrants that the subject matter of the entry and material included with or as part of the entry (such as plans and photographs) does not infringe moral rights, copyright or any other intellectual property right; d. indemnifies HIA against such infringements; e. grants to HIA an irrevocable licence to use the subject matter of the entry and material included with or as part of the entry for any purpose in connection with the promotion of HIA and the GreenSmart Awards; and f. agrees to state the category, type of recognition received and the year awarded, whenever disclosing information or promoting itself or the entry in any communications media, as a finalist or winner in the HIA Australian GreenSmart Awards. g agrees to comply with the HIA Awards Advertising Standards, HIA Award winners conditions of use and HIA Award logo style guide. 20. HIA and its associated media will only publish the entrant, the category and the suburb. No street addresses or owner s names will be used. 21. Entrants acknowledge that HIA takes no responsibility for the quality of photos and plan produced nor any editorial discrepancies attached to any photo or plan. CLIENT/ENTRANT NOTIFICATION 22. All entrants must gain the consent of the owner and any other necessary third parties for the project or design to be entered into the competition. DISQUALIFICATION 23. HIA reserves the right to disqualify an entry before, during or after the contest judging, official announcement of winners and awards presentation without a refund if the HIA determines that: a. the entry or entrant breaches or otherwise fails to meet/observe any of the above stated eligibility or contest requirements; b. HIA considers false or misleading information is intentionally provided; c. problems or discrepancies arise between or among entrants, designers and clients which HIA considers cannot be amicably resolved by the parties involved within a reasonable time; d. the project has not reached practical completion by the advertised final entry closing date; e. the member ceases to trade for whatever reason or becomes bankrupt or insolvent between the close of entries and announcement of awards; or f. the entrant ceases to be a member of HIA. 24. In the case of disqualification after the awards ceremony, the entrant will be required to return the award and a public announcement may be made by HIA. DISCLOSURE 25. The entrant agrees that any media comment in any communications media and photographic display of any of the entries will be at the discretion of HIA and the associated media. 26. HIA and its associated media accept no responsibility for any incorrect details, spelling or other incorrect information stated in the entry form. 27. HIA cannot guarantee the return of photographs, plans or any other material supplied. All documentation will be securely destroyed at the completion of the awards. 28. The entrant acknowledges that should any copyright action against the project be upheld by a Court of Law, awards shall be relinquished by the entrant and returned to HIA, at the point at which a judgement is delivered by a Court at first instance. 29. HIA does not guarantee that all entrants will be featured in publications or promotional events related to the HIA Australian GreenSmart Awards. PRIVACY AND PERSONAL INFORMATION 30. HIA may collect personal information (as defined in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)) and other information relating to the entrant s business in order to administer the Awards. All entries become HIA s property. 31. By participating in the Awards (including by submitting an entry), the entrant consents for HIA to use and disclose any personal information: a for the purposes set out in HIA s Privacy Statement available at and b to HIA s related entities, business partners, agencies, sponsors and other third parties engaged to provide services in connection with the Awards, in order to: (i) market to the entrant, including by , SMS/MMS, mail, social media and telephone; and (ii) administer the Awards. 32. The entrant agrees that such consent continues unless otherwise withdrawn.
