PART S Vision Expand our funding to support our member agencies transportation needs. Safe and congestion free roadways that support economic development. Meaningful transportation choices that reduce a family s transportation budget. Well connected communities across the region to provide access to economic opportunities, medical services and recreational resources.

1989 PART The early years Mayors, City Managers and local transportation professionals met to discuss the transportation services and coordination needs between jurisdictions of the Triad. Piedmont Triad Regional Transportation Study 1997 Existing Conditions Report: Transportation in the Piedmont Triad Congestion coming, development pattern principle cause, passenger rail should be studied. In June NC General Assembly passes Article 27, GS160A authorizing the formation of a Regional Transportation Authority. Appropriated $750,000 to conduct two separate rail corridor studies in the Triad. Authorization for new revenue sources to fund Regional Transportation Programs was established. Fall of 1997 representatives of local governments met to arrange for the formation of a Regional Transportation Authority.

PART s enabling legislation chapter 160A section 638 states The purpose of the Authority is to enhance the quality of life in its territorial jurisdiction by promoting the development of sound transportation systems which provide transportation choices, enhance mobility, accessibility, and safety, encourage economic development and sound growth patterns, and protect the man-made and natural environments of the region.

PART The early years On October 6, 1998 the PART Board held its inaugural meeting of the Board of Trustees, established a work program, adopted a business plan and began meeting on regular schedules. 34 What is a Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Program? TDM Programs offer choices to the single occupancy vehicle and helps mitigate traffic congestion. Try some of these alternatives: Teleworking Trip Chaining Public Transportation Vanpooling Biking Carpooling Compressed Work Week Walking

Vanpooling Look for an existing vanpool to meet your commuting needs Carpooling Securely find carpool partners Find nearby carpool matches with similar commutes No obligations or requirements Biking Biking is safer with a buddy find people in your area to ride with Rideshare Matching

The Best Workplaces for Commuters Program (BWC) recognizes employers who encourage employees to use alternative transportation by providing commuter benefits. Benefits of BWC Program: National Public Recognition Showcase Corporate Leadership Increase Productivity Boost Company Moral Cut Taxes Reduce Environmental Impact

Kick Off with 5K Run/Walk Promote, Promote, Promote Website, Events, Media Outreach Offer Prizes for Pledging Prizes purchased by soliciting sponsors Get Partners Involved Other Transit Agencies Schools & Businesses This 3 month pledge drive will heighten awareness regarding air quality while challenging people to try an alternate commute option at least one time instead of driving alone.
