7 U-Learn Project / Local Skills Development for Youth (LSDY) Uganda: second youngest population in the world (after Niger) with 77% of Ugandans are below the age of 30 with 53.4% unemployment Agriculture is the dominant sector employing over 60% of youth 57% of youth have primary or no formal education High potential for employment in agribusiness and construction sectors

11 Lessons Learnt The facilitation role of the project is key Present the learning model to make the partnership more feasible Early engagement built confidence between the team and partners Develop model for communicating with potential partners Extension services as key component of the partnership MOUs need to be explicit on product quality specifications Include female youths in career guidance sessions Clarify expectations regarding standards and quality Facilitate the cost calculations (financial literacy training) Youth can access land in multiple ways
