Spring 2016 S.W.E.A.T. Saturday, March 19th 9 AM 3 PM (Student Work Efforts Around Town) A fundraiser for Cornerstone Community Church Middle School & High School Ministries Registrations are due no later than Thursday, February 25th

~ 1 ~ S.W.E.A.T 2016 A Fundraising Effort of Cornerstone Community Church Middle School (IMPACT) and High School (the Rock) Ministries S.W.E.A.T.: WHAT IS IT? Student Work Effort Around Town is a fundraiser in which participants from the Cornerstone Community Church middle school (IMPACT) and high school (the Rock) ministries request donations for hours worked in the Simi Valley community through partnering with our DISPLAY ministry, doing small jobs around town. S.W.E.A.T. GOAL S.W.E.A.T. is designed to train up students in discipline and responsibility through a work day that allows them to earn scholarship money for youth group events. It also creates the opportunity for individuals and families to make a serious contribution to God for the ministry, to build youth group unity and to help establish an attitude of giving among those without a constant income. Participants will have use of 95% of their portion of the group-raised funds. These monies, however, may ONLY be used for YOUTH activities sponsored by Cornerstone Community Church (See examples below.) Summer Camp (The Rock) $ Summer Camp (Impact) $ GOING (Incoming high school freshmen) $ Winter Camps $ The remaining 5% of monies raised will be set aside to help fund other Cornerstone youth activities, events, or to purchase equipment for the work day projects. GENERAL GUIDELINES & INFORMATION This is the general format of the fundraiser: Registration & Information Packet: Read all the information and turn in your forms by the due date. Calling Crew: Students must apply and be selected to serve on this crew, which works on week nights. (Refer to Student Application for days and times.) Work Day Crew: All who register for the fund raiser who are not serving on the calling crew will participate in the work day on Saturday, March 19 th.

~ 2 ~ REGISTRATION & INFORMATION PACKET Students and parents need to read the packet of information thoroughly before turning in registrations. You must have parent permission and cooperation to participate in S.W.E.A.T. Fill out and return the Student Registration form. Turn in all forms at the church office during regular business hours (9 AM 5PM Mon-Thurs), or Wednesday nights (IMPACT & the Rock) no later than Thursday, February 25 th. You must agree to follow all of the guidelines in this packet and those given by the youth Directors. FUNDRAISING & GATHERING PLEDGES How are funds raised? A selected phone crew of students will contact people who attend Cornerstone for donations the weeks leading up to the work day. What is the phone/calling crew? The phone (or calling) crews call people who attend Cornerstone. These crews raise the funds that are split among the SWEAT participants. Statements are prepared by parent volunteers working alongside of the calling crew. They prepare the statements and envelopes for mailing. (See Student Registration for days and times.) Those who desire to serve on the phone crew must indicate this on their Student Application. Each person needs to plan to spend 5 hours (hours are worked over 2 afternoons) working during the week prior to the workday. Students selected for this crew will be contacted by Ali Cottrell, the student ministries administrative assistant. WORKDAYS Where do groups work? We will work at various locations around Simi Valley, which will be determined based on the needs and labor types that we receive from our DISPLAY ministry. Work tasks will likely be weeding, raking, painting, picking up trash, among similar jobs. This is real work! Students must come prepared to put effort into the project. What are the work hours? Saturday, March 19 th from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Check-in begins at the Cornerstone main parking lot at 8:00 a.m., to disperse to project locations promptly at 9:00 a.m. Teams will be under adult supervision. They will be transported to the work site where they will work on an assigned job for five (5) full hours (includes an hour lunch break). Tools will be provided. The group will return to Cornerstone between 3:00 3:30 p.m.

~ 3 ~ If you can t participate on the scheduled workday, you MUST contact Ali Cottrell at ext. 137 so she can assign you to a phone crew. Spots are limited on the phone crews, so contact her ASAP! What do students need to bring to the workday? Students will be supplied with any tools they may need for the job, but each student will need to bring a pair of work gloves, a sack lunch, and something to drink. Dress appropriately for the weather. We will work rain or shine! PARENT HELP We need parents to help! To make this effort a successful, fun, and growing time for your student, we need the full cooperation of parents in the following two areas: #1 Help your student(s) participate at the times and dates outlined in order to make this all work. All registrations must be returned to the Cornerstone office by Thursday, February 25 th, All participants must register including everyone on the phone crews, and workday crews. Those who are 18 years old or older must turn in a registration, but do not need to have a parent signature. Students who do not officially register will NOT receive a portion of the proceeds! #2 Sign up to help with a phone crew, preparing pledge statements, check-in of students on workday, or supervision of a crew at a project location (all parent volunteers will need to complete a Cornerstone volunteer application, if we do not already have one on file). We need lots of parents to help us make SWEAT a success!!! HOW DO I ACCESS THE FUNDS IN MY SWEAT ACCOUNT? The monies raised by the middle school and high school groups are kept separate. Of the total amount raised by each group, 95% is credited to individual student accounts; 5% goes to purchase equipment for the work day, such as tools & supplies. Once students have signed up for SWEAT, raised pledge monies, and completed the workday, statements are mailed to the contributors. It takes a couple of months for the bulk of the pledges to be paid. The funds will be counted and split equally among the SWEAT participants and credited to individual student accounts. You may call Ali Cottrell at the church office ( ), Monday - Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., to verify the amount in your account. The monies in your account may be used ONLY for Cornerstone sponsored youth retreats, mission trips, conferences or events. Funds may be left to accumulate through your middle school and high school years for use on missions trips or conferences that generally cost larger amounts of money. To use the monies credited to your account for a Cornerstone youth event, write Use

~ 4 ~ SWEAT account on the registration form. You may want to call Ali first to verify how much is actually in your account, then include with the registration form any balance owing that is not covered by SWEAT funds. **Information Regarding Tax-Deductibility of SWEAT Donations Only donations made to the general SWEAT fundraiser are tax-deductible. Donations designated for an individual s SWEAT account are not tax-deductible. If donors wish to contribute toward a specific student s participation in a Tax- Deductible Missions Trip, they should make a payment directly for that trip through the normal registration process.

~ 5 ~ S.W.E.A.T. Spring 2016 Parent Help With your help, we ll make it a success! Parents are needed to help supervise the student crews that work the Cornerstone SWEAT Fundraiser.
