1 A Walk to Remember Fundraising Hints and Tips There are 2 main ways to reach your fundraising target: 1. Sponsorship - ask friends, family and colleagues to donate by signing your sponsorship form or by donating on your online giving page. 2. Events & Activities - encourage people to part with their money whilst having fun at an event or activity that you ve organised. The staff at St Columba s Hospice fundraising team will support you in your fundraising efforts to raise the minimum pledge. Whether you need event-specific marketing materials or advice on activities and events, don t hesitate to call us on or awtr@stcolumbashospice.org.uk Sponsorship Collecting your sponsorship may seem like a bigger feat than the event itself, but with our pointers, it can be quick and easy. Gathering sponsorship Don t be afraid to ask! Carry your sponsor form everywhere so you can ask everyone, whatever you are doing! Also make sure your first sponsor is a big one hopefully others will follow suit. Online Fundraising St Columba s Hospice is on EverydayHero, Virgin Giving and JustGiving. Online fundraising pages are a great place to start with your fundraising efforts. They take just a few minutes to set up, you can personalise them to reflect your story and update them to show your supporters your progress towards your final goal! They are easy to share with friends, family and colleagues too making easy for them to support you! Gift Aid Don t forget to Gift Aid it! Gift Aid tops up each and every donation by a further 25%, free of charge, all courtesy of the Tax Man! If your supporters have paid tax this financial year equal to or above 25% of their donation to you, they can claim gift aid on that donation. That means that a 10 donation becomes or a 100 donation becomes 125! In order for us to claim this extra 25%, we need to confirm your supporters details. Without their home address details and ticked Gift Aid box, we can t claim the extra money from the Inland Revenue. But don t worry, your sponsorship form has a Gift Aid tick box, and each online platform has the same making it easier than ever for your supporters to Gift Aid their donation in support of you.

2 Matched Giving Does your company or boss match funding? Many companies are willing to help you by matching the amount you raise, so don t forget to check with your employer if they run this scheme. Companies are often pleased to help their employees in their fundraising attempts, especially if the charity is local. Events Organising fundraising events can be hard work but they are well worth it in the end. Remember the more fun an event is the more people will participate and the more they will donate! When thinking about what kind of event to put on, think about the following points: Don t leave it to the last minute Let everyone know about your event Ask local shops and businesses to sponsor prizes* Involve family and friends and don t be afraid to delegate Think realistically about your life, work and family commitment. *Let us know which local businesses you re planning to approach and we can draft an official letter on Hospice headed notepaper confirming that you re registered to take part in The Celtic Challenge Fundraising Suggestions A Afternoon tea party sell homemade cakes and specialty teas Arts and crafts make greeting cards, scarves or jewellery to sell B Bag pack ask your local supermarket if you can offer to pack customers bags for donations Band night get a local band to play and charge an entry fee BBQ sell tickets in advance for a BBQ in a private garden, pub or community hall C Car boot sale have a clear out and sell any unwanted belongings Club night enlist DJs, find a venue, sell tickets in advance and charge on the door Cocktail making party get your friends to make a donation to learn how to make cocktails D Dinner from a grand affair to a small gathering Dress up / dress down day donate money for wearing something different to school or work E Ebay sell any unwanted items on Ebay or Gumtree

3 F Fancy dress party hold a fundraising fancy dress party Fines put a pound in the pot if you swear G Garden party - Guess the number of sweets or pennies in a jar H Holiday raffle ask your employer to donate a day s holiday and raffle it off at work I In Lieu in place of a gift for any special occasion, ask friends and family to donate J Just a minute have a sponsored game show with no repeating, hesitating or deviating K Karaoke evening L Lucky dip people pay to dip for a prize M Mad hatters tea party Murder mystery evening N Night in stay in for an evening at the weekend and donate the money saved O Odd job days help people out with odd jobs around the house for donations One Hundred Clubs people choose a number (from 1-100, etc.) to be drawn once a month. The owner of the picked number wins a percentage of the pot from the entry fees. P Pound for pound ask your boss to match what you raise Pub games tournament pool, darts, skittles, dominoes, draughts, beer mat flicking competition Q Quiz night R Raffle

4 S Sports day for adults and kids, recreate those favourite school events Swap shop bring your old clothes you don t wear anymore, pay to enter and swap your clothes for free Sweepstakes this can be any kind of race or competition. Half the entry fee money goes towards your fundraising total and half to the winner (or source another prize and raise even more). T Theme party pick a film, era or public holiday to base your party on and charge a small entry fee. Treasure hunt U University Challenge set up your own version Upcycling take your old clothes/accessories/furniture, decorate them to give them a new lease of life and then sell them. V Variety show cabaret acts, singers, dancers, magicians, comedians and theatre acts. It could be an eclectic mix of entertainment for everyone to enjoy. W Who s that baby? guess your friends and colleagues from their baby pictures Wine or whisky tasting X X Factor Night or The Voice or Britain s Got Talent. Nominate your judges and get others to pay to enter and perform Z Zany dress day charge a fee for friends or work colleagues to wear crazy clothes or hats for the Day Don t forget to take the time to make sure your fundraising activities are safe and legal.
