4 Local Grants In respect of Local Grants, all of the restrictions outlined above apply in addition to the following: Applications will not be considered for personal equipment for individuals or uniforms although applications for items such as team bibs or general team training equipment may be considered; and Applications will not be considered to cover operating costs such as staff wages, utility bills, telephone bills, public liability insurance costs, etc. 6. Review and assessment of applications 6.1. Community Grants Applications are assessed for eligibility by a Judging Panel appointed by Suncorp. The Judging Panel will generally consist of individuals from the Brighter Futures team and Charities Aid Foundation who will assess applications against the Fund s criteria. The Judging Panel will review all eligible applications and provide each with a merit ranking that takes into consideration funding priorities, guidelines and goals. Applications are weighted against the following criteria: Criteria Interpretation Weighting To what extent does the Suncorp Group employee have an association with the recipient? To what level does the application demonstrate support for one or more of Suncorp Group s health and wellbeing categories? To what level is there a relevant and compelling need for support of the recipient? To what extent can the grant be attributed to a specific service or good? To what extent could the grant outcome provide positive impact for the individual/community? Length of association with recipient (period of time) and closeness of the association (occasional donor, friend of a friend, dedicated volunteer, close family member). Those with a stronger association score higher. The number/ breadth of categories supported. Scoring is based on the level of support within the category the greater the level the higher the score. Applications which demonstrate a lesser need for support score lower. For example an initiative may demonstrate a positive impact within the community however the need for support for the particular charity may be low due to existing corporate sponsorships. Those applications which very clearly outline what the money would be spent on and if it is for a particular initiative or piece of equipment score higher. Applications which are more general in their request for funds score lower. Those applications which demonstrate a significant positive impact for the individual or community score higher than applications where the funding outcome is not as significant. 30% 10% 30% 10% 20% 6.2. Local Grants Applications are assessed for eligibility by a Judging Panel appointed by Suncorp. The Judging Panel will generally consist of staff from the Brighter Futures team and Charities Aid Foundation who will assess applications against the Fund s criteria. The Judging Panel will review all eligible applications and provide each with a merit ranking that takes into consideration funding priorities, guidelines and goals. Applications are weighted against the following criteria: Criteria Interpretation Weighting To what extent does the Suncorp Group employee have an association with the recipient? Length of association with recipient (period of time) and closeness of the association (friend of a friend, dedicated volunteer, player or parent). Those with a stronger association score higher. 50% 4
5 To what level does the application demonstrate support for one or more of Suncorp Group s health and wellbeing categories? To what extent can the grant be attributed to a specific service or good? To what extent could the grant outcome provide positive impact for the individual/community? The number/ breadth of categories supported. Scoring is based on the level of support within the category the greater the level the higher the score. Those applications which very clearly outline what the money would be spent on and if it is for a particular initiative or piece of equipment that will be an asset of the club or community group score higher. Applications which are more general in their request for funds score lower. Those applications which demonstrate a significant positive impact for the individual or community score higher than applications where the funding outcome is not as significant. 10% 20% 20% 6.3. The Panel will favour applications across both categories which demonstrate the following: A long term commitment or association with the recipient. A compelling need for support of the nominated recipient. Clear explanation of the potential positive impact the grant will have for the individual. Support for one or more of Suncorp Group s health and wellbeing categories as outlined in the funding priorities. The application can be attributed to a specific service, program, initiative, equipment or goods. The application meets the Brighter Futures Grants Fund goals outlined in this guideline. Please note: Once the Panel has met to review applications, their decision is final and no other discussion will be entered into. 7. How do I apply for a Brighter Futures Grant?
