Women Build 2016 Individual fundraiser/team Member TOOL KIT
Women Build! 2016 Women Build May 5, 6, and Imperial Beach, CA Everyone should be able to grow up and grow old in dignity and safety. YOU are a strong woman, with the capability and determination necessary to make a difference in the lives of families! Congratulations on taking the first steps toward helping to eradicate substandard housing for children in our communities! Habitat for Humanity's Women Build program promotes the involvement of women in the construction industry. Women Build works to recruit, nurture, and train women to build and repair homes to help their fellow neighbors. Each team member or individual builder raises a minimum of $250 to secure her volunteer spot in Women Build. Funds raised will support Habitat for Humanity programs. You choose which day you want to build, May 5th, 6th, or 7th from 8:15 am 3:30pm. Women Build does not exclude men it encourages women to become empowered to break down stereotypes and show what we can do when we come together! So what s in it for me with all this fundraising? First and most importantly, you are key to Habitat s mission of building homes, communities, and hope. You will come together with other women for a unique and empowering experience. You will experience team building and networking in an entirely new way, with a day filled with construction work, meals, snacks, goodie bags, and more! Raise the minimum $250 and receive a Women Build t-shirt. Raise $300 and also receive a Women Build ball cap. Raise $500 and also receive an item from The Original Pink Box or a Women Build branded water bottle. Raise $1000 and also receive additional item from The Original Pink Box or a Women Build branded jacket. All participants must be 16 years or older. 1
You can do it! Fundraising is as easy as 1, 2, 3 1) Ask The answer is always no, until you ask. 2) Follow-up Your family and friends want to donate, they just forget. 3) Thank Crucial step. Don t forget to thank your donors. Every dollar counts and they are more likely to give again if they are thanked! How do I raise $250 in one week? Make a donation to yourself - $25 Ask 4 family members for $25 each - $100 Ask 4 neighbors for $5 each - $20 Ask 7 friends for $15 each - $105 TOTAL - $250 That was too easy! How can I raise $300 in one week? Make a donation to yourself - $25 Ask 4 family members for $25 each - $100 Ask 5 neighbors for $5 each - $25 Ask 10 friends for $15 each - $150 TOTAL - $300 I need a bigger challenge! How can I raise $500 in one week? Make a donation to yourself - $25 Ask 4 family members for $25 each - $100 Ask 5 neighbors for $5 each - $25 Ask 15 friends for $10 each - $150 Use our memory jogger to think of all the people you can ask for a donation. You will probably come up with another $50 If you re comfortable, as your contacts for a bigger donation! $100 or even more! Clean out your garage or host a bake sale - $50 TOTAL - $500 Don t forget to ask your company about matching gifts and watch your donations double! All donations to San Diego Habitat for Humanity are tax deductible. 2
You can do it! 5 My Fundraising Toolbox Online Resources and Your Own Personal Fundraising Page GO TO: HOW TO GET STARTED Once you are on the San Diego Habitat for Humanity Women Build 2016 fundraising page you will see two large buttons on the sidebar: Become a Fundraiser and Donate Now. Choose Become a Fundraiser so you can start raising funds and create a team. Templates are already provided for you. Use those or create your own for your profile and s. 4
BECOME A FUNDRAISER You will see the following pop-up when you click the Become a Fundraiser button on the Women Build page. Have fun with your Fundraising Page name! This is your personal fundraising goal. A personalized URL helps people find your page easily. Select a team from the drop down menu. If you don t want to join a team or you want to create your own team, select No Thanks. Please fill in your contact info. Read and sign the participation agreement waiver by selecting the I agree box. Select your T- shirt size and preferred Build Date. Please set your personal fundraising goal at a minimum of $250. However, we encourage you to raise more. The more you raise the more we can advance Habitat s mission to eliminate substandard housing in the San Diego community. And think about those prizes you are going to want that tool belt! 5
CONGRATULATIONS! YOU VE MADE YOUR OWN FUNDRAISER PAGE. NOW WHAT? This is what a personal fundraising page looks like. Customize it to make it your own. Add a profile picture and edit the My Story section to give your profile a personal twist. Tell your friends and family about Women Build, Habitat for Humanity, and why you are fundraising for San Diego Habitat for Humanity! You can update your donors, family, and friends on your fundraising progress by adding pictures, videos, or text using the Update button on your page. Use this toolbar to track your fundraising and update donors on your progress. Use this toolbar to share your fundraising page on social media. Get the word out to your friends! Create or join a team. Your team page will be separate from your personal fundraising page. Share your story. How did you get interested in Women Build? This shows what event you are fundraising for (Women Build) and which organization is hosting it (San Diego Habitat for Humanity). 6
HOW DO I CREATE OR JOIN A TEAM? This is the Hammers and Heels team page. Use this button to join a team. Any money you raise will also contribute to this team s goal. Use this button to contribute to a team s goal with a onetime donation. If you are using your donation to secure a spot on Women Build, please select become a fundraiser. You can just make the donation to your own page. All participants need to become fundraisers so you can accept the waiver. 7
This is what you will see when you click the Join a Team button on a team page. You can join an existing team by selecting from the drop down menu or create your own team. This is what you see when you click Create a Team. Upload a profile picture for your team. Set this depending on how many people will be on your team. You can always adjust the goal later. 8
WHAT DOES A TEAM PAGE SHOW? This is the Team Hammers and Heels team page. It s very similar to a personal fundraising page. It also has a sharing toolbar, the About sidebar, a place for the team to share its story, and information tracking the team s progress towards its goal. The Fundraiser s sidebar tracks team ranking and each team member s fundraising. Use these tabs to track each team member s fundraising and your team ranking. 9
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS For more FAQs please visit the Classy Help Center at basics Can I join more than one team? You can only associate your personal fundraising page with one team. What happens when someone donates directly to a team s page? The money donated directly to a team page is reflected in the team page total. It is NOT reflected in any of the individual team members totals. If you want a donation to show up in your personal total AND the team total, you should have the donor contribute through your personal page. If I donate to an individual or team fundraising page, who will have access to my information? When you make a donation through an individual or team fundraising page, the nonprofit you are contributing to will have access to your information. If you contribute through a personal fundraising page, then the person that created that page will have access to a report with your information. If you contribute through a personal fundraising page associated with a team or if you contribute directly to a team fundraising page, then the person that created the team page will also have access to a report with your information. What if I don t want to fundraise and just want to donate the $250 so that I can participate in Women Build? No problem! You still need to become a fundraiser and make the donation to your page. MORE QUESTIONS? Contact Shandy Arwood ShandyA@sdhfh.org
WHAT IF MY SUPPORTERS WANT TO MAKE THEIR DONATION IN THE FORM OF CASH OR A CHECK? While the online fundraising tool is very handy, cash and checks are welcome, too!
