1 Risk, Reliability and Resilience There are significant challenges to operating in Arctic and sub-arctic regions, specifically in the Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore areas. Harsh conditions, such as low temperatures, high winds, corrosive sea spray, icing and permafrost, pose safety and integrity challenges to the oil & gas, mining, utility, construction and shipping indutries. Abstract Deadline EXTENDED November 18 The 2019 Workshop and Symposium will focus on developing risk-based solutions considering the reliability and resilience of operations to achieve safe working conditions in harsh environments. Bringing together both academia and industry experts to share their knowledge and experience will help to identify and develop new collaborative research opportunities in safety and integrity management. This event will be organized by the Centre for Risk, Integrity and Safety Engineering (C-RISE), Memorial University, in partnership with the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) and the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP). In partnership with

2 The Symposium The goal of the symposium is to discuss safety and integrity-based solutions to operational challenges in harsh environments. The symposium will share scientific knowledge and state of the art research among academics and industry professionals and will propose engineering-based and technological driven solutions to safe industrial operations in Arctic and Sub-Arctic regions. Original papers describing a scientific understanding and engineering-based solutions on the proposed symposium topics are invited. Review papers and case studies presenting novel solutions to challenges in harsh environments are also acceptable. All submitted papers will be peer reviewed and will be short-listed based on quality and relevance of work to the symposium theme. The Symposium Topics Articles are invited on the following topics: Process safety in harsh environments Occupational safety in harsh environments Marine and offshore safety Risk management of offshore operations Data analytics Digitization and its applications Abnormal situation management Human factors Resilience of ocean and marine systems Natural hazards and resilience Emergency situation management Asset integrity management Journal for Safety in Extreme Environments: People, Risk and Security Selected papers will be invited for publication in a special issue of the Springer Journal Safety in Extreme Environments: People, Risk and Security (Editor-in-chief, Dr. Faisal Khan). The aim of this international peer-reviewed journal is to provide an interdisciplinary platform for safety related aspects of human activity in extreme environments. Authors who wish to cite previously published papers should ensure that the similarity does not exceed more than 10%. It is the responsibility of the authors to receive appropriate and necessary permissions and clearance on any copyrighted data from their organizations before submitting their papers. Only the final version of the paper should be submitted. Once peer reviewed, a modified version of paper will be included in conference proceedings.
