The call invites interdisciplinary applications exploring sex and gender effects and dimensions in research topics relating to one or more of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG3 Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 9 Infrastructure, Industrialization and Innovation, and SDG 13 Climate Action. NSERC will provide direct funding to eligible Canadian researchers to participate in awarded projects in the natural sciences and engineering related to SDG9 and SDG13 call topics only. 5 MITACS Free Mitacs Workshop Mitacs is offering a skills development workshop for Graduate Students. This workshop covers the topic of Skills of Communication, and is free for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The workshop is a full-day session featuring the tools and tips of better verbal communication. It will test your assumptions and mental models and for many it may be the first time you learn about the Ladder of Inference, the Johari Window and more. The goal is to make you more aware of the tools available to help you become a better communicator in both your work and personal lives. The mastery of these skills is a long-term process, but by simply becoming more conscious of the various communication styles, including your own, you can approach conversations differently and change conversational direction to achieve better outcomes. This workshop is being held at Trent University in room ESB B203, February 22 from 9am to 5pm. Globalink Research Award This opportunity provides $6,000 for senior undergraduate and graduate students to conduct week research projects at universities overseas. Research can take place at universities within the following countries: Australia, Brazil, China, EU member countries, Israel, India, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, United Kingdom and the United States of America. For travel starting this fall, applications must be submitted for May, and for travel starting this winter, the application must be submitted by September. More information on this opportunity can be found on the Mitacs website or by contacting the Office of Research and Innovation. Career Connect Program Mitacs Career Connect provides meaningful work experience for young graduates while helping companies find the talent they need to grow their business. Currently, interns must be under 30 years old, a post-secondary graduate, and a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Eligible hiring organizations must support a green project in the science, technology, engineering or math fields, for a six-month placement valued at $20,000 to $25,000, subsidized by Mitacs at 50%. Applications must be submitted by March 15, 2018, but funding is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
