2 W R I G L E Y C O M P A N Y F O U N D A T I O N Our Principles in Action Since its founding in 1987, the Wrigley Company Foundation has been putting our Principles into Action every day. We have been supporting people, the planet and the communities where we live and work through our grants a big responsibility as the main source of charitable giving for Wrigley. The Foundation has helped to improve and change lives around the world through donating more than $60 million to charitable causes in its 26 years. We believe we must make a difference through programs that have real impact, and are happy to have the opportunity to share this report highlighting some of our new partnerships and the incredible ways we are helping people and the planet around the globe. The Foundation is positioned to build upon the valuable partnerships it has carefully developed, and forge new ones that support causes most important to our associates and the communities where we live. The Wrigley Company Foundation has assets over $ 73 million Mission To improve the health of people and our planet through initiatives focused on oral health, environmental stewardship, and local needs that ensure healthy communities. Goals The Foundation aspires to achieve this mission by establishing global partnerships focused on oral health education and access to oral care, as well as environmental initiatives especially those that encourage healthy communities through litter prevention and community greening. We also give primary consideration to meaningful programs in the communities where Wrigley associates live and work, where they can directly contribute their energy and enthusiasm, and where our business partners live, especially those related to agriculture. 2

3 S U M M A R Y Governance The Wrigley Company Foundation is established as a private foundation in the United States and is regulated by the Internal Revenue Service of the U.S. government. The Foundation is required by law to distribute a minimum of 5% of annual average assets in accordance with a specified formula. As a result of this regulation, there are legal restrictions that limit the funding capabilities of the Wrigley Foundation, especially when providing contributions outside of the United States. All grantees must be recognized by the U.S. government as a non-profit, public charity with a designated 501(c)3 status. Organizations without such designation and related certifying documents, must undergo a significant vetting process. To facilitate global giving, the Foundation has partnered with the Donor Advised Funds Give2Asia, the King Baudouin Foundation US, and the Resource Foundation.. The Wrigley Company Foundation has an established Board of Directors comprised of Wrigley associates. 5 S U M M A R Y Save the Children More than 344,192 students and community members received life-changing services, thanks to the Wrigley Company Foundation s grant of $3 million over two years. This program provided a comprehensive school health, oral health, and nutrition program in six countries, and gave health training to thousands of teachers. In August 2013 the Wrigley Company Foundation extended program support for an additional two years with the launch of a new $3.6 million two-year agreement. $ 3 million 344,192 children 5

6 W R I G L E Y C O M P A N Y F O U N D A T I O N Foundation for Environmental Education Wrigley Litter Less behavior change campaigns are running in 35 countries, thanks to the Foundation s support to the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), providing $3.25 million over three years in partnership with the King Baudouin Foundation U.S. FEE runs 2 global environmental educational programs, which deliver the Wrigley campaigns: Eco-Schools Litter Less" Campaign The Eco-Schools elementary school campaigns focus on consuming less, recycling, waste issues, and long term behavior. The objectives are to engage and educate students in designing and leading litter campaigns, and raise awareness of the affect of litter on their community and environment. Eco-Schools Litter Less campaigns run in 20 countries: Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Greece, Kenya, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, UK (Northern Ireland), Poland, Puerto Rico, Russia, Scotland, Spain, South Africa, Uganda, the U.S., and Wales. Young Reporters for the Environment The YRE secondary school student groups and individuals investigate a local litter or waste issue and produce journalism articles, photo reports, radio reports, and/or video clips which include suggestions for minimizing litter or waste. Throughout the process, YRE student groups share the outcomes of their investigations on the Litter Less campaign website/database and are encouraged to publish the results in other media. YRE Litter Less campaigns run in 15 countries: Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, New Zealand, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Turkey. 6

7 S U M M A R Y An Taisce An Taisce, The National Trust For Ireland established in 1948, is the most influential environmental body in Ireland. An Taisce is the Foundation for Environmental Education National Operator in Ireland, which the Wrigley Company has supported for 13 years. In 2011, The Wrigley Company Foundation provided $170,000 support to An Taisce to develop the Neat Streets pilot litter behavior change program in partnerships with the King Baudouin Foundation US. Neat Streets ran in 20 secondary schools in Dublin, which utilized the current FEE Green Schools program and targeted litter behavior outside the school. One days rubbish in our school... In 2012, with an additional grant of $260,000, the Foundation expanded its support of Neat Streets for two more years, moving beyond Dublin to reach other Irish communities. Participating schools designate a Neat Streets Coordinator and Committee, conduct baseline litter surveys of school grounds, and launch their Neat Street Action Plans. You can follow their progress on the website Australian and New Zealand Dental Associations The Wrigley Company Foundation provided $98,400 in community service grant funds to the Australian Dental Association, in partnership with Give2Asia, to support 13 groups/ individuals who are involved with service projects focused on oral health care education and treatment to underserved populations. This is the third year the Foundation has supported this program. In addition, for the second year, the Wrigley Company Foundation also partnered with the New Zealand Dental Association, providing $28,000 in oral care community service grants to support similar projects in that country. Tooth Mob volunteers facilitate dental treatment in remote indigenous communities one of 10 grant recipients in Australia. 7

8 W R I G L E Y C O M P A N Y F O U N D A T I O N Pratham In 2013, the Wrigley Company Foundation launched a three-year, $1 million (USD) educational partnership with Pratham, the largest non-governmental education organization in India that is working to provide quality education to the underprivileged children in the country. This initiative, targeted at addressing learning gaps and providing support to help close these gaps in the top mint farming districts in the Indian State of Uttar Pradesh, is aimed at reaching 40,000 children by the end of Wrigley Hope Schools The Wrigley Company Foundation provided funding over the last 5 years for the construction of new Hope Schools in rural China through the China Youth Development Foundation, in partnership with Give2Asia. To help encourage healthy living and provide access to a quality learning environment, each school also has a Happy Sports Center. 8

9 S U M M A R Y American Dental Hygienists Association Institute for Oral Health ADHA INSTITUTE FOR ORAL HEALTH In 2013 the Wrigley Company Foundation partnered with the American Dental Hygienists Association Institute for Oral Health for the third year, providing oral care access and education to communities across the country. Through this year s Wrigley Company Foundation Community Service Grant program, more than 7,000 people received treatment, oral health education, and services who may not have otherwise had the opportunity. The value of the more than 48,000 treatments and services provided was $1.1 million. The impact of this program is vast, as it improves the health and quality of life for individuals of all ages across the United States. Disaster Relief Each year the Foundation provides support to the American Red Cross and others for emergency aid during global disasters and targeted long-term recovery efforts. In May 2013, with a $100,000 donation to China for Alleviation of Poverty (CFPA), the Foundation supported the disaster relief efforts in that country following a major earthquake. Later, in November, the Foundation supported disaster reliefs in the Philippine following a typhoon, with a $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross. 10 W R I G L E Y C O M P A N Y F O U N D A T I O N Financials $ million 60total giving through 2013 The Oral Care Community Service Grant Program, which provides care and education to underserved communities, continues to thrive across Australia, New Zealand and the United States. The program continues to reach more patients each year, with increased interest and participation from dental care professionals from the Australian Dental Association, the New Zealand Dental Association, and the American Dental Hygienists Association-Institute of Oral Health. Other Foundation supported oral care and environmental global partnerships continue to reach more children and their families through enhanced programs with Save the Children and the Foundation for Environmental Education. In total, through the end of 2013 the Foundation has granted over $60million since its founding. 10
