15 What is the funding for Things that matter Business ideas using open data* Possibly in combination with proprietary data, if relevant * data that can be freely used, reused and redistributed by anyone subject only, at most, to the requirement to attribute and sharealike Open Data Handbook Funds for Salaries Equipment, consumables, travels Subcontracting to other parties (e.g., marketing, training, legal support) Indirect expenditure (office space, office infrastructure etc.) See also Horizon 2020 guidelines 15

17 How to apply Online application About the applicant: basic information about the SME, including full legal name, address, and company registration number or VAT number. Short proposal (2,000 words) Idea Impact Team and requested funding Declaration of honor, signed/stamped by the legal representative of the SME Confirmation of SME registration with the EC 17

18 How we evaluate Process Two external experts Shortlisted applicants invited to online interview (20 minutes) Feedback for all applications Notifications within one month from submission Criteria Idea Strength and novelty of the idea Usage and/or creation of open data Impact Value proposition and potential scale Market opportunity and timing Triple bottom line impact (social, environmental, economic) Team and budget Knowledge and skills of the team Capacity to realize the idea Appropriateness of the budget to realize the idea 18
