1 SECTION D CONTESTS DUE BETWEEN FEBRUARY 23, 2006 & CONVENTION The DEADLINE for submitting contest entries included in this section is between February 23, 2006, and convention. Refer to contest entry forms for due date and where to submit. Year in Review will be collected at convention and are due at the registration desk by 6 pm, Friday, April 7, Refer to the OFFICIAL PROGRAM and any signs near the Registration Desk for time and place of Talent and Oratorical contests. 2 Contests Overview For contests entries collected between February 23, 2006 and Convention Clubs are urged to enter the various contests described in this packet. They can be both fun and challenging. The DEADLINE for submitting contest entries in this section is between February 23, 2006 and Convention. Refer to contest entry forms for submission requirements and deadlines for filing. These exciting contests are open to all clubs in good standing at District Convention. To help you decide whether or not you want to enter, here is a brief description of the contests included in this section: All awards that are applicable for Convention must take into account the following judging criteria. VISION STATEMENT: To develop competent, capable, and caring leaders through the vehicle of service. MISSION STATEMENT: KEY Club is an international, student led organization providing its members with opportunities to perform in service, build character, and develop leadership. CORE VALUES: Caring, Character Building, Leadership, Inclusiveness. * * * * * * * * * * * * Oratorical Contest Originality, clarity, organization and delivery are keys to your success in the Oratorical contest. If you're good at writing and public speaking, then this is the contest for you! Each orator is given the subject and a time limit of 5 minutes for presentation at convention and the rest is up to your imagination. Limited to one entry per club. Talent Contest Enter as a club, team or individual, all are welcome! Showcase the talent that makes the Pacific Northwest District the best in the land. Don't be afraid to make a fool out of yourself... who knows, you might win! Limited to one entry per club. Year in Review Contest Put together a book full of pictures, articles and mementos of the past year in a traditional or nontraditional way? Your KEY Club exploits should be on show for all and will... only if you enter the Year in Review contest. Remember, the binder form submission must be used for the traditional scrapbook. Divisional Spirit Contest Does your Division have spirit? Come to convention and show off your Divisions spirit in the Divisional Spirit Contest. Make Division hats and banners and show everyone else just how much spirit you have! * * * * * * * * * * * * Oratorical and Talent winners may be sponsored by PNW according to the rules passed by the District Board. Up to $800 has been allocated to the winners of the two mentioned contests if they attend the International competition. If both attend the International competition, the $800 is split two ways, and if only one attends, the total $800 is awarded. Only the winners are eligible for this sponsorship.
3 RULES GOVERNING THE KEY CLUB INTERNATIONAL ORATORICAL CONTEST 1. Subject for all orations will be pre-determined and distributed to all clubs via a general mailing from Key Club International. 2. The subject matter of the oration and the presentation must be original and completely developed by each orator. These factors will be considered equally in determining who is to receive the awards. 3. Each orator will be allowed a maximum of five (5) minutes for his/her presentation. Notes will not be allowed during the presentation. ALL SPEECHES MUST BE MEMORIZED 4. This contest is limited to one entry per club and the orator must be an official member, in good standing with KEY Club International and his/her local club. Entries for this contest must be postmarked by March 10, Judging will be based on the following criteria: A. The Speech Clarity of Message; Projection of Idea Originality Organization Depth Reference Grammar/Word Choice B. The Delivery Posture (composure and gestures) Voice (tone and effectiveness/pronunciation) Attention of Audience 6. The winning orator from the PNW District will be eligible for the International Oratorical Contest. In case the first place winner of the District contest is unable to attend the International Convention, the second or third place District winner may be allowed to take the place of the first place District winner in the International contest. 7. During the convention, elimination trials will be held (time and place to be announced in the convention program), and two orators will be selected to address the entire convention. 8. The first place orator at the District level will receive a suitable award for their excellence in public speaking. 9. The decisions of the judges are final and no changes, alterations or regradings will take place after the results have been certified by the judges and the Chairman of the Judges.

5 RULES GOVERNING THE KEY CLUB INTERNATIONAL PNW TALENT CONTEST 1. Each KEY Club may have no more than one act entered in the PNW Talent Contest. It is suggested that clubs enter only those acts which have superior talent. (Note: Any act, not only the district winner, may be entered in the International competition.) Entries for this contest must be postmarked by March 10, A club's talent contest entry may take any form as long as it is entertaining and in good taste. To help in classifying entries, the following three categories for acts have been decided upon. I. VOCAL Vocal solos, ensembles - duets, quartets, choruses II. INSTRUMENTAL Piano solos - classical and popular, instrumental - solos or groups III. MISCELLANEOUS Dancers - solos or groups, skits or variety acts, readings or recitations, miscellaneous - magicians, tumblers, etc. 3. All participants in an act must be official members in good standing with KEY Club International and their local club. In the case of a group act, all members must be from the same club. 4. Selection of acts at the trial program, in so far as they are consistent with high quality performance, will be final, and the winner in each category will appear at the Talent Night General Session. 5. Suitable awards will be presented to the top acts in each of the three talent categories. An overall talent winner will be chosen from those six finalists. 6. Each performance must not exceed six (6) minutes. Any act exceeding this time limit will be disqualified. 7. Any materials (props, instruments, costumes, etc.) that are needed for performance must be supplied by the members of the act. A piano will be available. (Also, back ground music should be brought on cassette tape or CD and will be run through the DJ's sound system.) 8. Any entertainment on the convention program prior to the PNW Talent Contest cannot participate as a judged act. 9. The decisions of the judges are final and no changes, alterations, or regradings will take place after the results have been certified by the judges and the Chairman of the Judges.

7 RULES GOVERNING THE KEY CLUB INTERNATIONAL PNW YEAR IN REVIEW CONTEST EACH KEY CLUB MAY ENTER EITHER THE TRADITIONAL OR NON-TRADITIONAL CONTEST, BUT NOT BOTH TRADITIONAL SCRAPBOOK 1. A KEY Club may enter a scrapbook in District competition containing pictures, souvenirs, examples, newspaper clippings, etc., of its activities since the last District Convention. Each scrapbook must be divided into the following categories: Service to School, Service to Community, Fundraising Projects, Assistance to Kiwanis Projects and Miscellaneous. Each category must be tabbed accordingly. The pages must also be numbered with a table of contents included at the beginning. 2. Each entry is required to be submitted in a specified scrapbook binder to be determined by the International office and made available for purchase from the Kiwanis International Supplies department and other designated vendors. The cover may be decorated. 3. Scrapbook entries must be submitted to the convention registration desk no later than 6 p.m. Friday, April 7, Judging of the scrapbooks will be on a point system as follows: Format - Total 50 points Cover Interior Art Work News clippings & Photos 20 pts. 20 pts. General Content - Total 50 points Service to School Service to Community Fund Raising Projects Assistance to Kiwanis Projects Miscellaneous 5. A sheet of paper MUST BE AFFIXED to the inside front cover of the scrapbook containing the following: KEY Club name, city, state or province, district and an itemized statement of the total expenditures and donations. If this sheet of paper is not affixed to the inside front cover, the judges will deduct ten (10) points. This statement must be signed by the KEY Club president and faculty advisor, stating that the scrapbook's retail cost value (including photographic materials) does not exceed the amount of $150. All materials, including those donated, MUST be included in the $150 amount. Work done by KEY Club members such as hand-lettering, art work, etc., need not be included as cost items. Failure to comply with this rule will result in disqualification. 6. Scrapbooks should only contain materials pertaining to activities undertaken between April 10, 2005 and April 7, Suitable awards will be presented for scrapbooks that are judged to be the best on the basis of format and general content. 8. The decisions of the judges are final and no changes, alterations, or re-grading will take place after the results have been certified by the judges and the Chairman of the Judges. 9. Winning scrapbook may be turned in directly to the Contest Office upon arrival in Atlanta, GA. 10. No audio visual or computer equipment will be allowed as part of the entry. 11. Entries may be reclaimed after convention close in the designated area. All entries not picked up will be discarded. (See next page for Traditional Year in Review Cost Sheet)

A KEY Club may enter a non-traditional scrapbook or composition of other media in District competition containing pictures, souvenirs, examples, newspaper clippings or other representations of its activities since the last District Convention. 2. Each entry should adequately portray the following categories: Service to School, Service to Community, Fundraising Projects, Assistance to Kiwanis Projects and Miscellaneous. 3. Scrapbook entries must be submitted to the convention registration desk no later than 6 p.m. Friday, April 7, Judging of the scrapbooks will be on a point system as follows: Creativity - Total 50 points Uniqueness of Project Presentation Artistic value Participation by Club Members General Content - Total 50 points Service to School Service to Community Fund Raising Projects Assistance to Kiwanis Projects Miscellaneous 20 pts. 20 pts. 5. A sheet of paper MUST BE AFFIXED to the entry containing the following: KEY Club name, city, state or province, district and an itemized statement of the total expenditures and donations. 11 SPIRIT AWARD Does your Division have spirit? This year, during the General Sessions, there will be someone judging your Division's Spirit at Convention! You may bring signs, and banners to hold prior to the session start for your Division to show its spirit. If your Division has hats, wear them too. Each club will be seated together in preassigned seating for each General Session. Just find your Division number when you enter for your seating and let your Division's spirit shine! However, common courtesy applies and these materials must be put away before each General Session begins. No laser pointers, noisemakers, silly string, confetti or other projectile materials will be allowed. Divisions will be disqualified if this rule is not complied with. Banner patches will be presented to the Division with the most Spirit at Convention!
