2 Mayor s Commentary ReNEW keeps its winning streak alive by helping citizens rebuild and restore the vitality of their community Dear Citizens of Orange County, Richard T. Crotty Orange County Mayor It has been nine years since I launched the Orange County ReNEW Program Residents and Neighborhoods Empowered to Win. During that time, ReNEW has provided dozens of physical enhancements for deserving neighborhoods, while promoting a strong sense of value and pride in our community. ReNEW has built and nurtured strong relationships between neighbors while encouraging community participation. These relationships have successfully repaired and enhanced neighborhoods throughout our county. I want to thank all of the neighborhood leaders who took the time to complete applications and manage their community projects. ReNEW would not be a success without your dedication and commitment. As I leave the Mayor s Office due to term limits, I am proud to report that ReNEW grant winners received nearly $3 million in grants on my watch to make a positive difference in their neighborhoods. I encourage all Orange County homeowners associations and neighborhood organizations to keep up the good work to make Orange County the best place to live and raise a family. Sincerely, Richard T. Crotty Orange County Mayor 2

4 Greetings From the Neighborhood Grants Advisory Board The Neighborhood Grants Advisory Board (NGAB) is proud of its work in helping to revitalize communities throughout Orange County. Since its inception in 2002, The NGAB has played a major role in approving grants that have benefitted a variety of neighborhoods in Orange County. The NGAB consists of seven citizen members who are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. Each member may serve a term of two years. Our main responsibility is to review grant applications for each neighborhood grant program created under the Neighborhood Services Division. This includes overseeing the appeals from grant applicants, monitoring the progress of grant recipients, and submitting an annual report to the BCC. We applaud the efforts of all the neighborhood leaders and Homeowner s Associations (HOA) who are actively working to promote community pride in their neighborhoods. We would also like to thank all volunteers, nonprofit agencies, and neighborhood groups who devoted countless hours of their time to help with neighborhood projects, and community clean-ups. This program has allowed us the opportunity to learn and gain more insight into the needs of our community. We are excited to serve you in this capacity. The NGAB would also like to thank Mayor Richard T. Crotty and the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) for their continued support of ReNEW throughout its existence. Together, we have truly made a difference in our neighborhoods Sincerely, Irma Keys Chair Neighborhood Grants Advisory Board 4

5 ReNEW Program Criteria Orange County s ReNEW Program (Residents and Neighborhoods Empowered to Win) provides direct funding to support and assist citizens and organizations in improving the physical and social quality of neighborhoods. Funding is available in the form of grants to help organizations revitalize and preserve their neighborhoods. The grants program is only one component of the overall strategy to strengthen and regenerate neighborhoods in the County. All physical improvement projects must be located along a major thoroughfare. Grant awards are available countywide in amounts between $1,000 and $10,000. Project must be visible and/or open for public use or enjoyment. Projects must be completed within six months from initial funding. All grant recipients must sign maintenance agreements. There are no limits on the number of applications an organization may submit. However, awards are limited to one per organization per calendar year. Organizations may not be awarded more than two consecutive years at a time. Examples of past projects include: Entranceway improvements Landscaping and irrigation Signage Fence Repair *See ReNEW Grant Criteria for additional requirements.
