Activities GALI Breakout Discussions Commitments
GALI Presentation The first part of the event explored the role of each organization involved in the Global Aceleration Learning Initiative GALI - and brought the main insights generated from the data analysis. The present public brought a question with which they approached: The role of each study organization and its main activities; The methodology and care that data is not duplicated when entrepreneurs participate in more than one program; The means used to compare totally different entrepreneurial ecosystems; Motivations for the low engagement of Brazil in the GALI survey; Actions that have already been taken from the analysis of the insights generated.
Acceleration and Incubation in Brazil Breakout Discussions The second part of the event was a world cafe, which aimed to generate ideas in four fundamental aspects for accelerators and incubators: Pipeline management; Selection; Capacity building and other services; Fundraising and investor relations. The recording of the learning was done through the GALI Canvas of Insights.
GALI Canvas of Insights Developed by Semente Negócios, the tool GALI Canvas of Insights was applied to guide the discussions and organize the knowledge produced in groups. The Canvas dynamics occurred in two rounds of World Café with 25 minutes each. After completion, each group shared the main insight in a tweet.
INSIGHT Partnering is the most effective. For pipeline generation: digital media and mass media advertising Partnerships with relevant ecosystem actors (universities, media, investors) Presence at important events and associations Newsletter with mailchimp. Very small number of contacts Very wide communication / call without specific cut Present the concept of social impact to the market Accelerator market is very competitive Partnerships with companies and large organization Increase awareness of social impact businesses throughout Brazil Access to a good network of mentors Support of managers / tutors dedicated to each business Expect organic attraction
INSIGHT It is necessary to demystify the process of acceleration and to foster basic entrepreneurship Find the right profile for the selection Creativity of the entrepreneur New ideas Direct indication Press office Pipeline dispute between other acceleration programs Dissemination of the concept of acceleration Partnerships with supporting organizations Excessive trust and unprepared business Increased entrepreneurial culture from the bottom up. Universities Paid vídeo ads Definition of social impact Need for financial investment by the entrepreneur
INSIGHT Clear and objective rules are needed to make the process more efficient. Develop a phased selection process with clear and objective criteria Interview with Entrepreneur In the final stages have more than one evaluator or committees to discuss cases To filter out entrepreneurs interested only in the resource, those interested in acceleration Do not have structured process Do not lose good deals in the process Personal Interviews Pre-acceleration may be a previous acceleration path Accept non-cnpj business in the way of patent construction In the selection process, look at project teams Look at the entrepreneur's LinkedIn to know the profile a little
INSIGHT The process must be reliable so that good companies are not discarded Structured form funnel Contact with entrepreneur (interview, pitch day..) Identify the profile of the entrepreneur Deal flow manager Have a simple go / no go to evaluate questionnaires Form with defined criteria that help to stage / delete in a 1st stage Ask for complete information in a first step of selection What marketing strategy will engage the network in the short and long term? Understand the seasonality of inscriptions in selection processes Possible difficulty for the entrepreneur to structure a pitch
INSIGHT EAD is a common path for all INSIGHT EAD End goal Some human monitoring Cash prize with equity It is necessary to define who the target audience is and their needs Project Manager Connection with mentors; Leadership Academy EAD Replicate GOV Tech methodology for other accelerators Workshops Consulting Connecting with mentors Webinars Learning Groups and Events Methodology Courses Consulting Learning Groups Certification of consultants; Entrepreneurial Education Platform Connection with mentors; Financial support Clearly define the profile of the public and their need Popularization of EAD Mentorship in administrative law and social impact Dependence on sponsorship and financial sustainability
INSIGHT Working out the behavioral aspects of the entrepreneur is vital. Customer focus and management and not core business Pre-acceleration focused on Canvas 3 to 6 months Mapping GAP's of entrepreneurs Preacceleration and acceleration Accelerate and strengthen connection with customers and suppliers To offer: Corporate ventures for large companies How to capture innovation and develop internally In acceleration articulation with specialists Pre Acceleration works to select accelerates Partners with incubators to prototype specific knowledge Weekly meetings to identify the challenges and support the entrepreneur Leadership academy (training entrepreneurs) Disseminate the concept of social impact business Connecting with an investor is a role played by the accelerator Post acceleration and support for fund-raising Mentors for specific guidance Point of attention: observe the growth curve of the business. Attention to those who grow very fast Evaluating the entrepreneur is fundamental
INSIGHT We demand legislation that encourages investment in new businesses How to pay the incubator and accelerator? Improve networking Maintain relationships with entrepreneurs for the exchange of financial and general information Greater influence in the enterprise How to show ROI to the investor How to measure social impact Aligning metrics between incubators and accelerators
INSIGHT The challenge is to present to the investor the potential of the social impact of the business Legal aspects of angel investors Bring investor needs closer to entrepreneurs Follow-up on postacceleration investment How to get to the right investors Empower entrepreneurs on investment Difficulties in following up Angel investor exit Empower angel investors.
Florianópolis s Activities In order to promote a richer and more productive generation of insights, the second part of the agenda was changed to a multilateral and action-oriented meeting to discuss how to increase Brazil's participation in GALI. The decision was made because of the profile of those present, who were mostly from government institutions. As outputs of this meeting we had a list of Brazilian organizations that should be partners of the study. In addition some advices to analysis brazilian data was made, since the environment of Brazilian startups has some practices that can mask some insights.
Next steps and Recommendations After understanding the GALI survey and generating insight into key activities for incubators and accelerators, participants were invited to create personal commitments to strengthen the incubator and accelerator ecosystem in Brazil. Among the main commitments were more frequent: Diffusion of GALI in Brazil; Use GALI data in academic research; Strengthening networking; Improve incubators and accelerators internal processes; Include topics related to social business in the programs;
Participants feedbacks
Feedbacks São Paulo Florianópolis 4,7 Average of all evaluated items 4,7 Average of all evaluated items The most common comments were: The structure (coffee break, learning journey and local) were excellent; Mobilizing more people from the entrepreneurial ecosystem; To present more result driven aspects of the data.
