11 A National Programme IoT Boost LP-WAN was announced 13 th December IoTUK Boost is funded by Government, underlining the importance of IoT for the UK s digital economy. Only 6 x organisations have been selected to build experimentation LP-WAN testbeds for businesses and entrepreneurs to develop Internet of Things (IoT) products and services. The selected partners are: 1. AB Open Halifax; 2. Advanced Digital Innovation (UK) - Bradford 3. CW (Cambridge Wireless) Cambridge 4. High Tech Bristol and Bath CIC Bristol and Bath 5. Sensor City Liverpool 6. The STFC Hartree Centre Warrington Participants will also liaise with the Digital Catapult Things Connected programme which aims to ensure London is open and ready to innovate with the IoT. Things Connected will initially provide 50 LoRaWAN base stations located across London to establish the UK s largest IoT LoRaWAN network.

12 What is it? A programme to support 10 x UK SMEs develop Internet of Things (IoT) enabled services and applications on an installed LP-WAN network. Makes use of the new Cambridge city wide LoRaWAN network. Testing LP-WAN technology solutions, that focus on a genuine need or problem area. Will utilise the new Cambridge University Intelligent city Management Platform & Iotic Space

13 Identified application areas 1. Air quality monitoring 2. Transport 3. Primary prevention of ill health in older people 4. Smart Buildings May also examine connected home/smart living applications These are favoured application areas, other proposals will be considered. = a challenge to the technology community

15 The Programme 10 (or more) SMEs will be selected for the programme through competition. Applicants will outline how they might tackle one of the 3 x challenge areas utilising the LoRaWAN network. The project partnership will be supported by a variety of technology businesses and challenge owners. A governing programme board of around 4-5 persons will be formed to provide overall oversight and agree a set of quality metrics by which the candidate organisations can be assessed both in the initial stages and during the accelerator competition. Applications will be judged and a shortlist of 10 x candidate companies/organisations made. Aim is for 10 x SMEs to be selected by mid-march 2017 If funds allow There will be a series of funded workshops where shortlisted companies engage with mentors and challenge owners to develop and validate their overall product or service concepts and are provided with LoRaWAN development kits if required. Alternatively companies will be matched with mentors. A pop-up accelerator workshop will be provided including pitch training Candidates will pitch at a challenge event to a public forum of selected judges, where the companies will compete for prizes. Prizes CW will be offering free CW Associate membership to all participating companies, and free founder membership to the successful finalists. We hope this will be augmented by contributions in cash or in kind from additional partners.
