Title: Energy Corps Member Number of positions: One Reports to: Energy Corps Program Director Term of service: March 4, 2019 August 30, 2019 Anticipated service schedule: 900 hours over course of service term, 40 hours per week. Occasional evening/weekend hours may be necessary. Position Summary: NCAT s mission is to champion small-scale, local and sustainable solutions that reduce poverty, promote healthy communities, and protect natural resources. One of NCAT s projects through the Appropriate Technology Transfer to Rural Areas (ATTRA) program is Armed to Farm (ATF), which provides sustainable agriculture training for military veterans. Armed to Farm has had over 300 participants in recent years and the purpose of this Energy Corps position will be to evaluate the results of previous ATF trainings, as well as identify opportunities for new curriculum development and training needs. The Energy Corps members will be responsible for contacting ATF participants and will help determine sustainable agriculture training, technical assistance, and resource needs for veterans operating sustainable farms. Specific Position Responsibilities: Follow-up with past Armed to Farm participants to see where they are/what they are doing, determine technical assistance and other resource needs Review past ATF and follow-up evaluations to find common areas of need Work with NCAT staff to determine webinar topics o Facilitate planning of webinars o Potentially host webinars with technical staff Enter data/compile results of Veteran Needs Surveys Assist with assembling binders for Armed to Farm trainings Enter Armed to Farm evaluation data Tag Armed to Farm images in Image Gallery with descriptive key words Help populate Veterans listserve with new ATTRA resources and announcements Research/find farmer veteran organizations and programs o Review Veteran Database entries, contact organizations to update and add listings Possibly assist with up to three Armed to Farm week long trainings.

2 Minimum Requirements: Must have a background in communications, environmental sciences, agriculture and/or working with veterans. Ability to work independently with limited supervision Must be over 18 with a high school diploma or GED; some college or work experience preferred Ability to work as part of a team and individually Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds Good organization and communication skills, presents self in a professional manner, and is outgoing and personable Experienced public speaker and excellent writing skills Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite Background and/or interest in energy, agriculture and community development issues Member will not have reoccurring access to vulnerable populations Benefits: This Energy Corps position will receive the following benefits: Opportunity to make a difference in a community Green job training and professional development Living allowance of $6,866 over term of service An AmeriCorps Education Award $2,960 upon successful completion of service Health benefits and child care assistance if qualified APPLICATION PROCESS: Applications will be accepted through October 15, 2018 or until a suitable candidate can be identified. Roughly 40 hours per week. Occasional evening/weekend hours may be necessary. Position Summary: The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) is a national nonprofit focused on agricultural and energy sustainability. Our mission is helping people by championing small-scale, local, and sustainable solutions to reduce poverty, promote healthy communities, and protect natural resources. NCAT manages a national technical assistance program called ATTRA to help agricultural producers and rural communities interested in adapting sustainable technologies. ATTRA is developing a pilot project to promote sustainability and build resilient communities in rural areas. We will explore how best to assist rural communities in Montana by focusing first on offering trainings and workshops to reduce community energy and water use, prepare for weather-related shocks and stresses, develop local food and energy solutions, and explore community-based recycling and transportation options. The Energy Corps member will help develop and distribute a Guide for Resilient Rural Communities to help small towns and cities develop their economy, improve quality of life, and strengthen local self-reliance. Specific Position Responsibilities: Energy Corps member will work with NCAT staff to research community energy, water pollution, recycling, and transportation The Energy Corps member will research what other rural communities are doing in these areas Interview city officials and community leaders to determine interest and gain support Work closely with and visit communities with similar goals and objectives Find and study case studies regarding climate action, sustainability, and resiliency Create case studies to present to officials and the community Work closely with other Energy Corps members to pool resources and to utilize an array of knowledge and experience to further research and knowledge Educate community members on climate change, resiliency, and sustainability practices Compile research results of community based climate change actions, resiliency best practices, successes, and failures Write a comprehensive report on findings

Title: Rural Community Energy Educator Number of positions: 1 Reports to: Energy Corps Program Director Term of service: Six months. January June or March August Anticipated service schedule: 900 hours over course of service term. Roughly 40 hours per week. Occasional evening/weekend hours may be necessary. Position Summary: NCAT s Energy Team is a collaborative effort across NCAT s Sustainable Agriculture and Energy Services sectors. The Energy Team identifies the services, programs, and educational materials that will help rural communities, farmers and ranchers and other agriculture producers and community groups and gardeners to reduce input costs and conserve energy resources while producing food.,. The Energy Corps member will work with NCAT staff to identify educational materials to be updated or created, research cutting-edge energy and resiliency methods and techniques, and help create new educational materials including publications, videos, podcasts and social media pieces. Additionally, the EC member will help prepare and disseminate a Financial Tools for Rural Energy educational toolbox. The Energy Corps member will also give presentations to the public and appropriate audiences on the work of the NCAT Energy Team. Specific Position Responsibilities: Help develop energy educational materials Research new energy saving techniques and tools for rural communities and agriculture producers Write and or update educational materials Research and understand the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) and help build an educational toolbox for rural communities interested in exploring REAP.
