4 Grow IGNITE Travel Mugs Available! Join IGNITE today to receive yours! What is Christmas? According to Webster s Dictionary it is the birthday of Jesus. However, many people in the world today do not follow a religious path, while others think of the holiday simply as a day filled with gift giving. But is that the true meaning behind the holiday season? Each year citizens are running to stores grabbing high end technical toys, expensive jewels, and clothes for friends and loved ones to open Christmas Day. All of which are nice, and exciting to receive but is that what Christmas stands for? For some it s more than gifts, and religious views. Christmas is a time to look at your surroundings and be glad for what you have. Gathering with family and friends enjoying the time you are able to spend with them. Or perhaps going outside with your children to build snow men, go ice skating, and possibly even sledding. This is not just a time filled with gifts and religious paths, but a time to sit back and enjoy the luxuries that surround you. Often we as citizens think that we have to travel to a nearby city or town to participate in any holiday activities. This is not true. Auburn is a beautiful city that provides all the magical experiences of the season. Take a walk around Emerson Park to enjoy the Lights on the Lake, or go to Casey Park to ice skate and sled down a hill or two. Maybe even attend some holiday concerts and events at some of our local businesses, and schools. Take a candle light tour at the Seward House, or a horse drawn carriage ride. The important thing is that we take a step back from our busy lives and enjoy the little things that mean so much. This year the IGNITE young professionals group decided to give back to a local business in Auburn. The Neighborhood House, a local daycare center for children, recently opened its doors to infants. The Joan Powers Butterfly Wing provides all the comforts of home to infant children while they are away from their parents. With a highly educated and dedicated staff these children could not be in better hands and a more perfect setting. IGNITE encourages the growth of our young individuals, and understands the needs of up to date materials and importance of a good education. Which is one of the reasons why IGNITE is celebrating the holiday by asking all those who are able to donate a gift or even a few pennies to the Neighborhood House this Holiday Season, that they do so. Margaret Mead once said, Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it s the only thing that ever has. Let s give back to our children, our community, and to the next generation of young professionals and not forget the true meaning of Christmas and the power of giving. Donations may be made directly to: Neighborhood House Attention: Kelly Guy, Director 81 Wall Street, Auburn, NY Tis the Season: The Power of Giving Christina Rusin

5 Grow Welcome to the Leadership Cayuga Class of 2013! Leadership Cayuga alumni, friends, and members of the Chamber gathered to welcome the Class of 2013 at a reception on January 2nd. Two days later, the class headed to Casowasco for an overnight Orientation Retreat. In addition to an introduction to the program- and each other, Linda Galbato of Syracuse University returned this year to facilitate a session on personality types how this affects leadership and teamwork styles. Hilary Ford 10 presented on the Mechanics of Public Speaking, and Guy Cosentino 89, reviewed the results of the SWOT analysis completed by the class prior to the program. 6 Support Did You Know... All employers conducting background investigations need to start utilizing revised Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) Forms beginning 1/1/13? The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has recently issued regulations that call for the modification of three critical forms required by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), 15 U.S.C et seq., which are typically used in the background screening process. The regulations require that employers and affected consumer reporting agencies (CRAs) begin using these new forms by January 1, The CFPB has modified the three specific forms to make it clear that it (the CFPB) is the agency from which consumers may obtain information about their rights under the FCRA, not the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). 1. A Summary of Your Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act This version which must be provided to applicants and employees instructs the applicant to contact the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for more information. It must be provided to the subject of a consumer report when there is a pre-adverse action notice and along with disclosure notices when running any investigative consumer report such as reports based on personal interviews conducted by a CRA. It is a good idea to include this form with adverse action notices as well. (Click on the link above to download the.pdf) 2. Notice to Users of Consumer Reports: Obligations of Users Under the FCRA This version, designed for users of consumer reports, includes a notice that information about applicable regulations currently in effect can be found at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau s website. (Click on the link above to download the.pdf) 3. Notice to Furnishers of Information: Obligations of Furnishers Under the FCRA This version, designed for furnishers of consumer reports, includes a notice that information about applicable regulations currently in effect can be found at the Consumer Financial Protections Bureau s website. (Please contact Alliance Worldwide Investigative Group to obtain a copy of this form.) Changes were made to the forms because of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act that was signed into law by President Obama on July 21, The new forms reflect the change in rulemaking authority for most of the provisions of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Formerly the responsibility of the Federal Trade Commission, rulemaking authority for FCRA has been transferred to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. In fact, rulemaking authority for many consumer financial protection laws from various federal agencies has been transferred to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. To visit their website, click here. This e-news was written by HR One s Strategic Partner, Alliance Worldwide Investigative Group, a fully licensed and bonded FCRA compliant global pre-employment screening firm that is ready to assist employers with all forms of investigations and employment screening. If you have questions or concerns regarding the revised forms, you may contact Alliance Worldwide Investigative Group, Inc. at , and ask for Teresa Goodwin.

7 Support Creation of Historic Bipartisan Partnership Senator Skelos, leader of the Senate Republican Conference, and Senator Klein, leader of the Independent Democratic Conference, recently announced a bipartisan partnership governing coalition. The bipartisan coalition is committed to working with Governor Cuomo on progressive policy issues that benefit all New Yorkers in the next legislative session. The Business Council is encouraged by the creation of a bipartisan governance model that will avoid the dysfunction the Senate experienced in 2009 and 2010, said Heather C. Briccetti, Esq., president and CEO of The Business Council of New York State, Inc. The power-sharing deal reached by the IDC and Senate Republicans reflects a commitment to support Governor Cuomo s fiscal reform agenda. Only by controlling spending and holding the line on taxes can New York stay on the path to economic stability. Under the agreement, the Independent Democratic Conference will be formally recognized as a third, permanent Senate conference. The two conferences, which will form the governing coalition, will be recognized in the Senate Rules as the Senate Majority Coalition. Material from The Business Council of New York State, Inc.
