12 EUROSTARS cooperation of 40 countries in applied research and development Supports cooperation of research-oriented SMEs At least two participants from at least two EUROSTARS states must apply No rigid themes; all marked-oriented topics are welcomed but resulting new products must reach the market in two years time after the completion of the project Typical project duration: max. 3 years Typical project budget: 1,5 mil. 19 MOBILITY programme supporting the development of mutual R&D contacts Eligible countries: Austria, France, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Taiwan, Argentina Research topics are limited by basic research only Who may apply: academic and research organizations, SMEs in some cases Eligible costs: living and transportation costs only Project duration: 1-2 years Typical financial support: Kč per annum Open calls: every year, usually in March May period

20 Programme MOBILITY specific features of some bi-lateral agreements, part 1 AUSTRIA: Only basic research projects and academic institutions are eligible. FRANCE: Only basic research projects are supported but organizations other than academic may also apply. SLOVAKIA, POLAND, HUNGARY, SLOVENIA: No restrictions with respect to research type. Any type of institution may apply.

21 Programme MOBILITY specific features of some bi-lateral agreements, part 2 TAIWAN: No restrictions on project topics; principal researcher must be an employee of the ASCR (other organization may also participate as co-researchers). ARGENTINA: Research topics are restricted to ICT, biotech, ecology, climate change, new materials, nanotech, life science and social sciences. All types of organizations may participate.

25 Successful participation in international R&D projects: some simple tips, part 1 Always start with a clear vision of your research targets. Finding an appropriate support and/or partner is a secondary task that shall be derived solely from your research strategy. Consider carefully the programme rules, make sure that they suit your specific needs. A good telescopic strategy is to start with a simple mobility project to establish respective research contacts abroad. The latter may lead to a subsequent joint project proposal eligible for a major multi-national support scheme.

26 Successful participation in international R&D projects: some simple tips, part 2 Take into account that large multi-teamed grants are always more difficult to manage than simple bi-lateral cooperations. The latter often offer more flexible tools well suited especially for small- and medium-sized research projects. If you are to collaborate with external project partners, make sure that your intellectual assets are protected. Your IP-strategy should be clearly defined well before the start of the project!
