1 Colorado Natural Gas 2018 Community Engagement Report
2 Message from our CEO At Colorado Natural Gas, we take our responsibility of being a good corporate citizen seriously, which is why being a good friend, community member and neighbor is at the heart of what we do. In 2018, we are proud to have supported many important nonprofit organizations throughout the state that focus on food insecurity, environmental issues, the arts and many other efforts that will help us build strong local economies and communities throughout Colorado. Whether it s going above and beyond helping one of our customers with an issue, donating to a local charitable organization or volunteering with one of Colorado s many extraordinary nonprofit organizations, we understand that we are only as strong as the communities we serve. We look forward to continuing to be a strong partner for years to come and building on the successes of Kurt Adams President and CEO 2
3 Volunteerism 320 volunteer hours Colorado Natural Gas, Inc. (CNG) recently donated back-to-school supplies for students at Sierra Vista Elementary. In 2018, Colorado Natural Gas provided each employee with 20 hours of paid time off to use volunteering with non-profit organizations in the communities we serve. This year employees donated almost 8 weeks of volunteer time. Whether working individually or as a team, Colorado Natural Gas employees volunteered by coaching local sports teams, participating in nonprofit fundraisers, and building homes with Habitat for Humanity. 4
4 In 2018, Colorado Natural Gas donated $1 back to the community for every residential customer it serves through charitable sponsorships, community grants and organizational memberships sponsorships included: Strasburg Hometown Day Kit Carson Day Fairplay s A Real Colorado Christmas Gilpin County Fair SafeHouse Denver In addition to sponsorships, each year the Company provides grants to local nonprofit organizations that focus on wellness, economic, educational, environmental and cultural initiatives Awardees: Community Giving Program Alpine Rescue Team Assistance League of Pueblo Boys & Girls Clubs of the High Rockies Colorado Lions KidSight Program Eastern Plains Women s Resource Center Habitat for Humanity of Teller County Kit Carson FFA LifeBridge, Inc. 5 Educational Outreach One of our core values as a company is safety of our communities, customers, and employees. Because of this, Colorado Natural Gas developed a natural gas safety presentation for kids! The presentation is focused on educating 3rd-4th graders on natural gas and how to be safe using it. Core ideas include call before you dig, safety around construction sites, and what to do if you smell gas. We also work to educate the communities we serve about natural gas safety through safety presentation with public safety officials and local citizens! Each year, Colorado Natural Gas allocates hundreds of thousands of dollars for energy efficiency rebates and no cost efficiency assessments for our customers with the goal of reducing energy bills, increasing efficiency and reducing. This allows them to enjoy the reliability and comfort of natural gas at less cost. In 2018 we spent an estimated $300,000 on these programs, which included rebates for smart thermostats, efficient boilers, hot water heaters and other energy efficient equipment. These rebates are available to residential, commercial and large industrial customers. In 2017, our efficiency program resulted in a carbon offset of 92 metric tons 1. That is equivalent to taking 20 vehicles off the road or offsetting the total energy usage of 10 homes 2. 1 Based on calculations using guidance from the Policy Document for the Illinois Statewide Technical Reference Manual for Energy Efficiency. 2 Source: epa.gov/energy/greenhouse-gas-equivalencies-calculator United Way Campaign United Way mobilizes our community in ways that no single agency, individual or government can, to enhance the ability of people to care for one another. Each year Colorado Natural Gas partners with the United Way to raise money for charitable organizations throughout our communities. Employees can help by being an advocate, giving, and/or volunteering with the United Way. The Company matches employee contributions up to $5,000 annually to the United Way Campaign. 8
